Forum:Divine Wind VS Morphing Jar 2

Alright my question is on a ruling of the effect of Divine Wind of the Mist Valley VS Morphing Jar #2. Here was the situation

I had Mist Valley Falcon and Reborn Tengu(None in my deck anymore so i couldn't use his effect) on the field, and Divine Wind of the Mist Valley.

It was my turn during the battle phase. I attacked his face down Morphing Jar #2 with Mist Valley Falcon, bouncing Tengu because of Falcons effect.

Now is where my question comes in. What the heck happens lol. We weren't sure if I would get my special summon before, or after the monsters on the field return to the deck.

It create a chain. Divine is Chain Link 1, after Falcon's attack, so Divine would summon, resolving the chain, then Falcon's attack would continue. I believe that is what happens. If I'm wrong someone who is better than me will correct me by tomorrow morning. --99.64.65.42 (talk) 03:39, May 28, 2012 (UTC)

The cost of bouncing a monster for Mist Valley Falcon to attack occurs during attack declaration. That's when the effect of Divine Wind of Mist Valley and Reborn Tengu is activated. Since the effect of Tengu is Mandatory and the effect of the Divine Wind is Optional, the chain is created in this way:

Chain 1: Reborn Tengu's effect activates.
Chain 2: Divine Wind's effect activates.

Resolve the chain:

Chain 2: You Special Summon 1 Level 4 or lower WIND monster from your Deck.
Chain 1: Since you don't have anymore Reborn Tengu's in your deck. Show your opponent where the other Tengus are. Then it resolves without effect and you don't Special Summon anything.

After that, you will enter the Damage Step where Morphing Jar 2 is flipped face-up at Sub-step 2 and its effect activates. Then the effect resolves at Sub-step 6.

For the record, "Reborn Tengu"'s effect would not activate in this scenario, no matter what. --Golden Key (talkcontribs) 17:06, May 28, 2012 (UTC)

Actually, the effect of Reborn Tengu is a Mandatory Trigger Effect. It would still activate and create a chain link. You would need to prove to your opponent that the effect cannot resolve properly. Similar to Sangan when there is no elligible monster for its effect.  HHTurtle Talk   17:40, May 28, 2012 (UTC)

Card Rulings:Reborn Tengu: This effect does not activate if Reborn Tengu is returned from the field to the Deck. --Golden Key (talkcontribs) 17:50, May 28, 2012 (UTC)

He bounced Reborn Tengu for Mist Valley Falcon to attack. The Tengu is returned to the hand.  HHTurtle Talk   17:55, May 28, 2012 (UTC)

Misread. Apologies. --Golden Key (talkcontribs) 18:00, May 28, 2012 (UTC)
