Forum:Genex Controller - Little Guy makes Big Plays!

Please note that this Deck is far from finished. In fact these are only candidates for the final deck.

After seeing the card Unexpected Dai, I immediately thought about using it in Genex, a Deck I always liked. Unfortunately, the Deck (for a lack of a better word) sucked. Not enough Synergy, mediocre effects, no Spell and Trap Support. With Unexpected Dai, however, the plays revolving Genex Controller (the central card of the Deck) had the potential to become more consistent and thus viable. Big Synchro plays are now a piece of cake, as Dai, Swing of Memories and even Iron Call can be used to summon Controller over and over again.

Since most Genex cards are rather lackluster, I instead wanted to focus on Genex Controller itself. Instead of a central card however, he is now "degraded" more of a "free advantage" card (summon with Unexpected Dai or Swing of Memories, adding with Genex Undine and banishing it for Allure of Darkness etc.).

The thing is just that I struggle to make a good Deck out of it. Even though the intent was to make a more casual Deck anyway, I still want it to be playable. One idea I had was to implement it with cards like Cyber Dragon and Machina Fortress to make a hard-hitting, quick-synchro Deck. While it works decently well, it just feels too much like a generic, cookie cutter Machine Deck, not like the original concept I envisioned.

The other idea, that I liked better was a Water centered build, where Genex Undine was the Main Card: it sent cards like Treeborn Frog, Fishborg Archer and Sinister Serpent to the Graveyard to gain advantage and set up future plays. The Atlantean monsters were also trigger'd by both Undine's and Fishborgs effects. Additionally, Surface was another option to make Synchro plays easier. While the idea worked really well, somebody made the remark "Merlanteans Light" and I realized that the "Unexpected Controller" engine was barely utilised.

I tried combining both Elements, but now the Deck is more of a Trainwreck than anything else. I don't know if I should scrap the entire Deck and start anew (only with the "Unexpected Controller" engine in mind) or should I refine one of my two previous attempts. Any help? All suggestions are welcome.--.:BronzeJohnson:. (talkcontribs) 19:21, May 28, 2015 (UTC)

What's your extra deck look like? --Dark Ace SP (TalkPage) 23:40, May 28, 2015 (UTC)
Just a thought, but the only good Genex Synchros are really Locomotion R-Genex and Vindikite R-Genex. Just a thought, and it might not work, but Genex HERO could work. I mean Destiny HERO - Malicious and Masked HERO Dark Law are Level 6 and can help make Locomotion. After Locomotion steals an opposing monster, just bring back a tuner for a Synchro Summon. The other option for Locomotion is Genex Monarchs, since Caius is a Level 6 Dark. Vindikite can just be made with an Instant Fusion and Genex Controller. Those are just my ideas, I'd have to work with them a bit to get them to work. --Dark Ace SP (TalkPage) 23:51, May 28, 2015 (UTC)
Also, Unidine can set up Nimble Angler plays, and while Rank 2's aren't the most scary monsters, Sky Cavalry Centaurea is kinda scary and Instant Fusion opens up some higher level Synchros. --Dark Ace SP (TalkPage) 23:59, May 28, 2015 (UTC)

After a lot of testing, this Atlantean Genex build turned out to be my favorite overall:

I'm sure there's room for improvement, but for now it seems to run fairly well. The only thing that the Deck would need is Tidal, Dragon Ruler of Waterfalls, just to make more synchro plays and run over bigger monsters without resorting to the Extra Deck. --.:BronzeJohnson:. Aqua Spirit could help you make more Synchros, but it's just not as big as Tidal. --Dark Ace SP (TalkPage) 02:59, June 11, 2015 (UTC)
