Forum:Gusta Swap!

The Gusta were a pretty bizarre archetype when they were released in Duel Terminal - Raid of the Inverz!! Basically, there were a bunch of recruiters, and then some cards to do stuff with those cards going to the graveyard - Calm, Silent Gusta would let you shuffle them back to the deck and get a draw, while Gusta Empathy instead let you shuffle two back to destroy an opponent's card. They were interesting, but as far as I could tell they weren't particularly powerful.

But now, with Duel Terminal - Judgment of Omega!!... they're still not particularly powerful. But they've gotten a boost, and a large enough one that maybe - just maybe - they're viable. I present to you my Gusta Swap deck!

As you can see, this deck has a LOT of recruiters. As in a $h1+load. 3 Gusta Garudos search out Eagle, Squirrel, and Wynnda. 3 Gusta Eagles search out Wynnda, Calm Silent Gusta, and Thunbolt. 3 Wynndas search out Garudo, Eagle, and Squirrel... 2 Thunbolts search out Reeze, Wynndarl, Wynnda, and Calm Silent... 2 Squirrels search out Reeze and Wynndarl... and finally, 2 Flying Kamakiris search out Thunbolt, Wynnda, Garudo, Eagle, AND Squirrel. Whew!

Now, that's a lot of cards going to the graveyard, so the rest of the cards are mostly about taking advantage of this. Calm Silent Gusta turns two Gustas in my graveyard into an extra draw, once per turn. Wynndarl allows me to special summon some of the weak monsters in my graveyard when it destroys something by battle. And Reeze... well, it's an odd case. At only 1900 ATK for one tribute, it doesn't seem that good, but remember this - she's a monster version of Creature Swap! And what is Creature Swap often used with? Recruiters! Considering that I have FIFTEEN, Reeze should be pretty useful. (Plus, I can press some sweet battle damage through my recruiters.)

Speaking of Creature Swap, I've got three copies of the original right here! It's probably going to be even better than Reeze is. 3 Gusta Empathies take advantage of those cards going to my graveyard, by using them to destroy my opponent's cards. Hand Destruction can automatically load my graveyard with two Gustas, to be used with Calm Silent Gusta, Wynndarl, or Gusta Empathy. Mystical Space Typhoon is close to being a staple, so of course I have two. Dark Hole is also something of a staple, but I love it in this deck especially - it triggers the effects of Squirrel and Garudo. Finally, Monster Reborn is an absolute must for any deck.

I have two Solemn Warnings as part of my trap lineup, as a way of helping keep my monsters safe. A Prayer to Gusta is some interesting revival that gets recruiters back to my deck to be used again. Torrential Tribute combos with Squirrel and Garudo, and again keeps me safe. Finally, there's what may seem like an odd pick - Royal Oppression! Seems odd, but besides synchro summons, A Prayer to Gusta, and Monster Reborn, I'm virtually unaffected by the card, since most of my special summons happen during the damage step.

The extra deck has a bunch of staple synchros which I won't discuss, and the much more important Daigusta series! I've got three Daigusta Spheres to start, and they're pretty phenomenal. They allow me to add a Gusta card (including Gusta Empathy and A Prayer to Gusta) from my graveyard to my hand when they're synchro summoned. And the other effect? It's like a vindictive version of Blackwing Armor Master - Sphered can't be destroyed by battle, and all battle damage from battles involving Gustas is redirected to my opponent. Hilarity ensues as I attack my opponent's high-ATK with low ATK monsters such as Eagle and Garudo! Daigusta Eagles is a high-ish ATK monster that lets me remove WIND monsters from my graveyard to destroy my opponent's face-downs during my end phase, and Garudos allows me to destroy my opponent's face-up monsters with ITS effect.

Tell me what you think! Runer5h (talkcontribs) 02:52, November 23, 2010 (UTC)Runer5h

2 things:

  • You forgot to retitle your Decklist
  • You DO have a ton of special summons. Thunbolt, Squirrel, Synchros, MR, Prayer, you might want to rethink Royal Oppression or edit the monsters.

Thanks for alerting me to the deck name. And I think that despite those special summons, Oppression won't be a huge problem. Runer5h (talkcontribs) 20:49, November 23, 2010 (UTC)Runer5h

VERY high search power in this type of deck. Using Creature Swap with this deck is pretty genius. What about using An Unfortunate Report and Battle Mania in this deck? 99.141.17.75 (talk) 23:44, November 28, 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the compliment! But no - I don't think that An Unfortunate Report or Battle Mania would be very useful. Runer5h (talkcontribs) 01:02, November 29, 2010 (UTC)Runer5h

Perhaps Liberty at Last!, due to the huge amount of 'destroyed by battle'?-Resk (talkcontribs) 01:06, November 29, 2010 (UTC)

Well, that seems kind of situational to me. I don't think I'll use it, for the same reason I wouldn't use Michizure - too stringent activation requirements. Runer5h (talkcontribs) 20:24, November 29, 2010 (UTC)Runer5h

I remember stumbling across these guys. Didn't think too much of them, until hearing about the new support for them. "Add from Graveyard to hand", is basically all I see out of these monsters X]. Could Foolish maybe give a +1 boost to help out? I'm also suggesting another A Prayer to Gusta, but not by that much.|DED (Leaving Me Messages Are Often Left Here) 01:51, November 30, 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the ideas. I don't think another Prayer to Gusta would help, really... and Foolish Burial is just a loss in card advantage for me.
As for returning from graveyard to hand, what do you suggest? All I can think of is Monster Reincarnation (not a huge help) and Daigusta Sphered (which I already have three of). Runer5h (talkcontribs) 02:51, November 30, 2010 (UTC)Runer5h

Return to hand? I'm not sure if that's even necessary. If you already have three Sphered, then don't you have that part already covered? Pot of Avarice doesn't hurt, since they return to the deck and add to the Grave quickly, right?|DED (Leaving Me Messages Are Often Left Here) 05:12, November 30, 2010 (UTC)

Eh, nevermind. You run three Calms and Empathys.|DED (Leaving Me Messages Are Often Left Here) 05:16, November 30, 2010 (UTC)

Slight changes:

  • -1 Flying Kamakiri 1
  • -1 Solemn Warning
  • +1 Giant Trunade
  • +1 Mind Control

What do you think? Runer5h (talkcontribs) 21:59, November 30, 2010 (UTC)Runer5h

I can understand Giant Trunade; sometimes a set Mirror Force can really tick me off when I'm handless. But why Mind Control? I think you should take it out and put in another Reeze. 75.34.46.28 (talk) 00:37, December 1, 2010 (UTC)

Mind Control is because I have EIGHT tuners - all of which can be searched incredibly easily. It will never be a dead card. (Oh, and Giant Trunade has a second use - bouncing my own Royal Oppression, allowing me to synchro summon.) Runer5h (talkcontribs) 02:47, December 1, 2010 (UTC)Runer5h

Small change - I'm dropping my Kamakiri for a third Thunbolt, and my Prayer to Gusta for a Card Destruction. Runer5h (talkcontribs) 21:45, December 1, 2010 (UTC)Runer5h

The same number of tuners in my Fabled Valleys. I've noticed some things about your decks. One, you like Mind Control. And two, you don't favor traps that much X]. Card Destruction is alright, though it could seem situational..at times.|DED (Leaving Me Messages Are Often Left Here) 22:22, December 1, 2010 (UTC)

Jeez, if Solemn Warning only negates a special summon, why not use Black Horn of Heaven? Oh, never mind. Solemn Warning says "negate a summon." 75.34.60.182 (talk) 23:22, December 4, 2010 (UTC)
