Forum:How to balance a fun deck and one with synergy?

I can never let go of cards I love, whether for the artwork or the crazy effect. This usually leaves me with banned cards but oh well. But as cool as my deck turns out, it always lacks synergy and speed no matter what cards I use. And to turn it into a true deck with 1 purpose like most decks do, that usually cuts out a lot of my favorites and replaces them with boring-looking cards that are by themselves not exactly fun to play. How does everyone else who has the same issue go about structuring their deck? Its not THAT big a deal because I don't go to tournaments, but I would like to find a way to cut a deck to 40 cards without feeling sad at losing stuff. Thanks

there's no way to make a inconsistent deck work better. If you like cards that don't fit well together, well then you're just out of luck(especially if the cards are older), you'd be better off finding a central card(maybe your overall favorite) and gravitate around it (I did the same thing with Number 32 and Number 101 and it lead me to my own custom water xyz deck) and as far a how most people do it? Well, unfortunately most Yugioh players just copy whatever decks are doing best in tournaments, sad, buts that's the state of the game unfortunately.F8lfire (talkcontribs) 08:04, November 25, 2013 (UTC)

It's also largely to do with the way the game and cards are designed. Yugioh's cards are largely restricted to archetype support, be it being very narrow at specifying card details, or being name-specific, so there's not a lot of room in getting flavour-creative without sacrificing functionality. --Gadjiltron (talkcontribs) 08:25, November 25, 2013 (UTC)

If there are several different cards/strategies you like, but can't play them all for the sake of consistency, the only real solution is to simply make more decks. Don't expect 1 deck to pull off 5 different strategies, but expect 5 decks to be able to do so. Battlemaniac (talkcontribs) 21:35, November 25, 2013 (UTC)
