Is it wise to have one side deck for multiple game decks, or is it better to make a specific side deck for each individual game deck. I see that each time some of you make a new deck, you make a different side deck for it. I use the same side deck, and though some of those cards don't really go for the deck's main strategy. It does counter some of my opponents strategies. The reason, I ask is I don't have a huge collection of cards, so getting an individual side deck for each deck will be a little bit harder. What do you guys suggest.

I also could use a good way to build a side deck, any suggestions you may have would be greatly appreciated. I have built mine currently, by going through my cards as I get them, and seeing how it would best be used. I have to get ready for work, but I will list my side deck and the reasons for them soon.

  • The purpose of a Side Deck is two-fold: It can allow you to compensate for your deck's weakness in one department by reinforcing it, and it lets you change your deck's strategy in-between duels. For instance, a deck running no traps could have a side deck filled with traps, and also include 3x Royal Decree and 3x Jinzo. This way, you can either shut down your opponent's traps or counter them with your own.
Competitive decks have more complex Side Deck mentalities. A Tele-DAD deck, for instance, must regulate its side-deck so that it can increase its effectiveness against:
Lightsworns
Zombies
A mirror match (Another Tele-DAD)
A random Macro deck
Monarchs
Gladiator Beasts.
In doing so, that duelist can adapt to any matchup. That is the general Side Deck strategy. Side decks work best in decks that revolve around a specific archetype, rather than random decks, because you have a certain strategy that you bolster/change. --Darth Covah 14:00, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

My Side Deck and Reasons for them.

This is my Side Deck, as stated on another thread, I use the same side deck for all my decks. This is also the reasons that I use them, or have them in there.

Monsters 5:
Princess of Tsurugi(that is there in case my opponent uses alot of spell/trap cards)
Pitch-Black Warwolf(there in case of traps, ie Sakuretsu Armor and the like)

Puppet Plant (there in case of a Warrior/Spellcaster type deck)

Tornado Bird (again there for traps/spell)

Hane-Hane (there to get rid of monsters ie Tribute/Synchro)

traps 6:

Ritual Sealing (there in case my opponent uses Ritual monsters)

By Order of the Emperor(used for Effect Monsters)

Disarmament (used for an opponent that uses alot of equip cards)

Anti-Fusion Device (used for opponents that fusion summon)

Dragon Capture Jar (used if opponent runs a Dragon type deck)

Doppelganger (used when damage causing effect monsters are in play ie Volcanic Slicer

Spells 4:

Blessings of the Nile (used for mill sorta cards ie Robbin' Goblin)

De-Synchro (used for opponents that like Synchro Monsters)

Fengsheng Mirror (used for opponents Spirit Decks)

Spell Shattering Arrow (used for opponents that use alot of Continuous/Field Magic/Equip Magic Cards)

That is my side deck, and the reasons that I have them there. Would it be better to set a Side Deck for each Individual Deck or, to not have one at all. What do you all suggest.

I think you should include a Level Down!? just in case they use lots of lvl monsters, a kid I played once got an Armed dragon LV10 out, I Leveled it down to a level 3 lol. Other than that I can see you've put a lot of thought into your side deck. 98.211.5.17 05:32, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

  • This is an avarage side deck:

3 Light-Imprisoning Mirror

3 Shadow-Imprisoning Mirror

3 Dimensional Fissure

3 Mind Control (only for synchro decks)

1 Giant Trunade (yes, Giant Trunade)

2 Royal Decree

I expect you to play Synchros, if you don't, fill it with 2-3 Twisters for Anti-Meta. Blue-Eyes White Boy 05:05, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
