Forum:Moving Yu-Gi-Oh! Abridged Content to new Wiki!

From Yugipedia
Jump to: navigation, search

Hello there!

The Yu-Gi-Oh! Abridged content has looked out-of-place here for a while, because we're a Wiki geared for official and canon content. A Parody series doesn't really fit into that. It was originally accepted because there was no other alternative at the time, and because Wikipedia repeatedly removed it from their pages, citing that it wasn't well-known enough to justify the article space.

We have therefore decided to officially open the Yu-Gi-Oh! Abridged Series Wikia at http://ygotas.wikia.com, a Wikia Wiki that was have officially adopted. We will begin the process of article deletion here in a few weeks, to give us and everyone else time to copy over the relevant images, as well as any articles we have missed. On the other end, some work needs to be done to edit the articles, so that they point to the Yu-Gi-Oh! Wikia for cards and characters.

Here's to the Yu-Gi-Oh! Abridged Series Wikia becoming a productive member of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Wikis on Wikia.--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 14:57, April 17, 2013 (UTC)

That's not a good idea. If you believe it is not canon, just make a template saying it is not canon. Besides, many wikis bring non-canon events, just with a notification. Energy X 19:18, April 17, 2013 (UTC)
How is it not a good idea? Our focus is, and always has been, the official media. YGOTAS is not in any way official, so it has never really fit in on this wiki, and the overall quality of the coverage shows it. Moving it to its own wiki gives it somewhere where the focus is exclusively on it, where it has a much better chance of developing a dedicated editing community to give it the attention it deserves. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 19:51, April 17, 2013 (UTC)
Besides, why moving to another site when everything can be covered in one place? That does not seem a good move, this place has a lot of editors and viewers, with this move people will have to visit this and that site and with that, less people will visit this site (or that one). Nevermind, I thought it was a different season... Energy X 21:21, April 17, 2013 (UTC)
I don't think unofficial means not notable enough for this wiki. But just because the Abridged Series is notable doesn't mean everything about it is. I think articles on its catchphrases and every single video related the series are too much, especially when the articles sometimes contain nothing but an embedded video. At least on its own wiki, it has the freedom to include pages like that and ones that go into further detail.
Yu-Gi-Oh: The Abridged Series main and recurring characters is one of the longest pages on the wiki, but its content is exceedingly unencyclopedic. Among the problems, I mentioned with that page are people trying to replicate the humour through their description of the characters, which is out-of-place on a serious wiki. On its own wiki, the users can decide whether or not articles can contain humour and can have individual articles for each character, which go into more detail.
I don't think keeping an article for the series itself is necessarily a bad idea. It and the main page would contain links to the YGOTAS wiki, I suppose? -- Deltaneos (talk) 21:01, April 17, 2013 (UTC)
That would pretty much be the idea. The content needs it's own room to grow, and we're a little "stricter" on standards than would be appropriate for a parody. In it's own environment, new rules can be devised, and users can decide how articles should be written.--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 22:08, April 17, 2013 (UTC)
