Forum:No card is never worth main-decking

Obviously I am excluding all Forbidden Cards when playing by the Advanced Format, as well as Normal Monsters which are just too weak to be more useful than all of your other options (such as Shapesnatch over Caius). Also, Prohibition (unless you already know what Deck(s) you will be facing and their contents. In fact, I bet that I can think of a strategy that would mean that any card would be worth main-decking. If other people could please post some cards which they think of, I will do just that. (By the way, I've already prepared GB Hunter and the 2 Imprisoning Mirrors, just in case anyone thinks that those are never to be main-decked). Battlemaniac 18:06, November 2, 2009 (UTC)

  • There are several Normal Monsters worth considering, mostly the 1900- and 2000-ATK beatsticks without cost; plus they have very useful Normal-specific support like "Amulet of Ambition" and "Dark Factory of Mass Production". Danny Lilithborne 18:44, November 2, 2009 (UTC)
    • Sorry, you must have misunderstood me. I'm fine with things like Gene-Warped Warwolf and other Normal Monsters with high stats, even if its just for their level (like Atlantean Pikeman). What I mean is things like Skull Red Bird or Peacock which are outclassed in every way by so many other cards of their type, attribute, level and even a mix of the three. Hope that clears things up for you. Battlemaniac 18:54, November 2, 2009 (UTC)
  • What about "Larvae Moth"? -- Deltaneos (talk) 18:59, November 2, 2009 (UTC)
    • Easy. Run a Deck based around "Exchange" and similar cards (if there are any), leaving your opponent with a totally useless hand. Battlemaniac 19:06, November 2, 2009 (UTC)
      • That combo doesn't even gain advantage. You lose 2 cards and gain 1. Your opponent doesn't lose any cards overall. If you're lucky they won't be able to make use of the card you give them. (e.g. they won't be able to discard it as a cost.) And in that case, it'd only balance the combo, assuming the card you take is of use to you. It also means you have to include a card(s) that are useless to you in every other situation -- Deltaneos (talk) 19:49, November 2, 2009 (UTC)
        • Provided you have enough cards to search out "Exchange", as well as including a couple of copies of "Goblin of Greed" in your Deck, it's probably worth adding at least one "Larvae Moth", due to the fact that it is, in the opinion of almost certainly everyone who has ever thought about it in this way, the absolute worst card in the game. • You're performing a very situational, easily broken strategy, just to maintain a dodgy 1 for 1. -- Deltaneos (talk) 11:06, November 4, 2009 (UTC)
  • Err...how about Meda Bat? --MrD — Preceding undated comment added 05:34, November 4, 2009
    • They said in the intro that weak Normal Monsters are excluded. -- Deltaneos (talk) 11:06, November 4, 2009 (UTC)
Oh, that's an amazing side-deck card. It's a beatstick and a level 4 tuner that can take out Skill Drain/Royal Oppression/Macro Cosmos/etc in a way that cannot be negated. And yes, it might be useful if your meta is comprised of many many Macro Cosmos decks or the like. Runer5h 00:30, November 5, 2009 (UTC)Runer5h

Exactly. It is, to the best of my knowledge, the best beaststick if you want a tuner monster. In addition, quite a large amount of decks are likely to have 1 face-up trap card at some point, so it could be main-decked rather than side-decked. You say that it relies on the opponent, but I bet when you design decks you don't think twice about that when deciding to add in cards such as Mirror Force or Brain Control. Battlemaniac 09:46, November 5, 2009 (UTC)

  • that is correct, I don't think about it for Brain Control/Mirror Force, but I do think about it for cards like Ojama Trio/Trap eater, which work well when used Situationaly, but wouldn't work all the time (syncros/no cont traps), In addition, As far as I've played of late, Blackwings/Lightsworns/Glads(bar the occasinal one-turn mirror wall) 'don't' use face up traps....82.11.158.0 23:30, November 5, 2009 (UTC)
  • It's normally kept in reserve for a time when you somehow run into an opponent that locks you (Burnlock, Morphtronic Bind, etc), or has stuff like Skill Drain, Royal Oppression, or Royal Decree. Eating Call of the Haunted is pretty pointless as you'd rather destroy it, thus making the opponent lose their monster at the same time. And when you think about it, Quillbolt OTK decks would rather keep their IIWs down until the very turn where they'll shoot your Life Points down to 0. --Gadjiltron 07:18, November 6, 2009 (UTC)
