Forum:Nordic Beasts Deck

After first seeing the Polar Gods in the anime, I had really wanted to make a deck with all of them. The sad thing is that their effects were nerfed when they were released in Storm of Ragnarok, and now you can't really summon more than one of them in a deck. Since I had to choose one of them, I chose Thor seeing as he has an ok effect, and because the Nordic Beasts are probably the most supported of the 3 Nordic groups.

The main strategy of this deck is to synchro summon fast using beast type monsters with Guldfaxe of the Nordic Beasts as the main tuner. The deck also uses some destroyed by battle effects.

For my monsters I have Guldfaxe of the Nordic Beasts since he is the main tuner. Chain Dog helps to get fast synchro summons when needed. Key Mouse and Super-Nimble Mega Hamster both search out half of the monsters in the deck, and Key Mouse is also a tuner. Tanngnjóstr of the Nordic Beasts can be easily special summoned when I lose a monster by battle, and allows me to bring out Guldfaxe too. Tanngrisnir of the Nordic Beasts leaves behind tokens to synchro summon with when it is destroyed in battle, which can also help to meet the requirements for Chain Dog. Ryko is just there for mill power and destruction.

As for my spells, Creature Swap lets me trade a Key Mouse or a used Ryko for an opponent’s monster, and if I use it with Key Mouse, then I get to add a monster to my hand when it is destroyed in battle. Pot of Avarice is to counteract the milling done by Naturia Beast and Ryko, and add Guldfaxes back to my deck. Burial lets me re-use Chain Dogs, and Guldfaxes removed for Thor. Lightning Vortex is for destruction and it can get Chain Dog in the graveyard. Closed Forest is used for a late game finish/anti field spell support. Book of Moon lets me re-use Ryko and Hamster. Monster Reborn and Mystical Space Typhoon are really just staples/semi-staples.

In my traps I have Nordic Relic Laevateinn to punish my opponents for destroying my monsters in battle, and the great thing is that it can't be chained to. Scrap-Iron Scarecrow gets rid of one attack, and can be useful in some situations. Trap Stun stops cards like Mirror Force and Bottomless Trap Hole. Solemn Judgment, Bottomless Trap Hole, and Mirror Force are all staples.

The Extra Deck has Thor, Lord of the Aesir as the Polar God of choice. Armory Arm is just too easy to get out. Naturia Beast protects me from spells and mills. Stardust Dragon prevents cards from wiping my field (like Dark Hole). Thunder Unicorn can be useful in a tricky situation. Lightning Tricorn is used for beatdown, and gets a Thunder Unicorn back when killed. Ancient Fairy Dragon special summons and can get me Closed Forest.

What about Vanadis of the Nordic Ascendant? It can be used for the synchro summon of ANY Aesir, and it can mill Guldfaxe. Runer5h (talkcontribs) 02:53, December 1, 2010 (UTC)Runer5h

I was originally thinking about Vanadis, but I'm not so sure. It can get any Aesir out, but I do have Tanngnjóstr to get Guldfaxe out of the deck. Also I'm not so sure whether it would fit in the deck well. If I were to add one in, what should I take out and why? Neoceanlord (talkcontribs) 03:23, December 1, 2010 (UTC)

could you tell us what the otk is, since i don't see it.

First of all, please sign your posts with four (~). Second, this deck doesn't OTK. Where did you see that? Neoceanlord (talkcontribs) 21:42, December 1, 2010 (UTC)

Disregard my comment about Vanadis. After some thought, I decided to change the deck to include all 3 Polar Gods. Now the deck doesn't focus as much on beasts. Here is the new decklist.

The changes are:

The changes made this deck based more around using Vanadis of the Nordic Ascendant to mill other Nordics and synchro summon for all 3 Polar Gods. Ljósálfr of the Nordic Alfar works like Marauding Captain and can summon and Nordic monster from my hand when I have something of a higher level on the field. Since I'll usually have a synchro monster on the field, the level isn't a problem. Svartalf of the Nordic Alfar returns Nordic monsters from my graveyard when normal summoned and synchro summons Loki. Dark Eruption lets me reuse Svartalf's effect, and Vanadis can put Svartalf in the graveyard. Mind Control works to synchro summon faster. Gleipnir, the Fetters of Fenrir searches out any Nordic monster from the deck.

Any comments or suggestions? Neoceanlord (talkcontribs) 22:43, December 1, 2010 (UTC)

I think you should do all the Polar Gods for more choices for the game--Tokenpower (talkcontribs) 23:07, February 15, 2011 (UTC)

I'm not planning on building this deck anymore, but I'm pretty sure that all of the Polar Gods are in there. Neoceanlord (talkcontribs) 23:36, February 15, 2011 (UTC)

You do know that chain dog would not work to summon thor, as he is a Beast-Warrior, not a beast. Also, by that line of thought Closed Forest will not work either. Hairball420 (talkcontribs) 01:21, February 25, 2011 (UTC)

Please read Forum:Deck Guide/General and Forum;Deck Guide/Nordic.

Laevateinn is rather...well...bad. Megingjord isn't very good either. Gotterdamerung is quite bad. Every Nordic Deck should use three Gleipnir, the Fetters of Fenrir. BF2 Talk Deck Guides 13:46, November 6, 2011 (UTC)

Hey, I run a nordic deck as well, and it works fine as it is, and I have access to all nordic gods. I have to say that you shouldn't take it as a must, but as a hint. Maybe you get some idea's out of it? It is focussed around Removing from play as well, creating a cycle that makes your game quite interesting. Return froma different dimension creates a major advantage.

Thing I can really advise you are the following: Get three gleipnirs, you can chain them to anything, including MST. This is often an easy +1. Get three tanngnjostrs, they are the key to your nordic deck. Leviair kicks butt, but apart from a very nice pull, you will have to pay dearly for it... not cool... Still, he makes up for it. Voltic Bicorn is awesome. period. 145.107.24.11 (talk) 23:01, November 6, 2011 (UTC)

Uh, no disrespect, but I am running all three in my deck without an issue. I hardly use Loki, so he is really just there just because he goes with them, but I have had no problems with getting both Odin and Thor on the field in one game.

If you look at my topic a few posts down, you will see what I run (got to my Version 3 deck). For Beasts though, I think having 3x Guldfaxe, 3x Tanngrisnir, 3x Tanngynstor, 2-3x Super Nimble Mega-Hamster (if it is all beast, run 3, if it is a combo, do 2), and 2x Ryko are a must. You should also hae 3x Vanadis in there even though you are just running Odin since he can act as a Nordic Beast.
