Forum:Scrap Orthros - Heck Yes!

Scrap decks have a new card to play with - Scrap Orthros - and I for one could not be more THRILLED! Here I thought that we'd need to wait until Storm of Ragnarok, but clearly not.

So, why am I thrilled?

  • While you control a Scrap monster, it trades itself for any monster in your graveyard. Seriously! Special summon it, destroy it with its own effect, and add a monster.
  • Not nomi. Oh yes - it can't be normal summoned or set, but by the current translation there's nothing about being unable to special summon it except by its own effect. So, it's another level 4 tuner to be summoned by Chimera for Scrap Dragon, or by Golem for Scrap TWIN Dragon!
  • More good-ol self-destruction. Meaning more synergy with Scrap Searcher and Scrap tuners' effects, but also with more eccentric picks such as Machine Emperors and even (since it's a Beast) Green Baboon, Defender of the Forest! Very exciting.
  • Did I mention that it's a Beast? That makes 3 in the archetype! You can now start using cards like the aforementioned Green Baboon, but also Moja (maybe), Super Rush Recklessly, and... well, whatever you choose!
  • Decent ATK. Trade that weak ol' Scrap Searcher for this stronger card!

With this and the MUCH-anticipated Scrap Mind Reader, Scrap decks are on a meteoric rise to the top! (Shame you can't use both in the same format, though...) So what are YOUR opinions on this card? Runer5h (talkcontribs) 02:08, October 13, 2010 (UTC)Runer5h

Great Tuner, much better than the last one, maybe it will replace Scrap Beast (stronger, same Level and Type) and with a nice artwork (another mythologic creature, how about a Scrap Cerberus next?). Don't forget that you can also chain Scrapstorm to its effect! By the way, I believe that Scrap Mind Reader's Level will be 2 and, in Storm of Ragnarok, we'll get a Level 6 or 10 Scrap Synchro. --Missign0 (talkcontribs) 04:35, October 13, 2010 (UTC)

DEFINITELY much faster than Scrap Beast. It can also be grabbed with Scrap Goblin, to make it a good recycler. It's a searcher/Tuner/Scrap Chimera target X].|DED((Leaving Me Messages Are Often Left Here) 05:14, October 13, 2010 (UTC)

Personally, I think Scrap Beast is still perfectly viable, seeing as you can simply normal summon it with no restrictions - unlike this card. So I'd use at least one of each. Runer5h (talkcontribs) 19:45, October 13, 2010 (UTC)Runer5h

That's true, but for the most partt, Othros will most likely be ran more. There's not really much you can do (Synchro-wise) Normal Summoning a Tuner like Scrap Beast to an empty field. However, my perspective and your perspective on the archetype is different, being that I am familiar with a more mill action for the deck, and you prefer different variants.|DED((Leaving Me Messages Are Often Left Here) 21:52, October 13, 2010 (UTC)

I'm trying a more mill-oriented version (Orthros doesn't work unless you can get targets to the graveyard and quickly!) and 2 Beast, 2 Orthros seems to work. 4 revival targets for Chimera = consistency and easy Scrap Dragons. Runer5h (talkcontribs) 22:21, October 13, 2010 (UTC)Runer5h

Yeah, I feel a little mill in the scene definitely is beneficial (now especially with Orthros). I'd say about 7/10 times Orthros won't be a dead draw, what with swarming Searchers and surviving Goblins (unless you attack it while face-up defense (*cough*yeahgoodluckwiththat*cough*). Well, don't confirm your decklist yet, or at least before members/support show up in STOR.|DED((Leaving Me Messages Are Often Left Here) 01:11, October 14, 2010 (UTC)

I'd probably only run 1 Scrap Orthros, as while it has a nice recycling effect, it's still a risk of dead draw, it's not... 'fast' enough, as it just 'add one scrap from grave to hand' basicly.., but able to be negated easily-Resk (talkcontribs) 20:10, October 13, 2010 (UTC)
Oh yeah guys, I also loved this notice. And I also thinked about the Scrap Cerberus XD! Well with three beast-type scrap monsters I think I'll add Wild Nature's Release and The Big March of Animals to my deck as soon as I get my hands on this baby. Well, a card I run in my deck is Double Summon, as a second summon can help in a lot of scrap combos. For example, a combo I came-up the moment I've read Orthros effect: Use Foolish Burial to send Scrap Chimera from my deck to my graveyard, and then normal summons Scrap Beast. Special Summon Scrap Orthros with it's effect and destroy Scrap Beast, thus returning Chimera to my hand. Activates Double Summon to normal summon Chimera from my hand reviving Beast, and synchro summon Scrap Dragon. Now there are three things I can do now: 1) Keep it the way it is or use the effect of scrap dragon to destroy one of my spell/trap cards and one of my opponent cards. 2) Use Scrap Sheen destroying Orthros to make Dragon's attack rise by a thousand points. Then use Scrap Dragon effect, and since Orthros was destroyed chimera is retrived to my hand so that during my next turn I can synchro summon another Scrap Dragon. 3) Destroy Orthros with Dragon's effect, retrieving chimera, destroying my opponent card, letting me synchro summon another scrap dragon next turn, and not using needed spell/trap cards as ammo for scrap dragon. I've said all that of a combo because I didn't knew what to talk. By Snetonobre (talkcontribs) 21:10, October 13, 2010 (UTC)
