Forum:Shift against Fissure

If I have 2 monsters on my field, and both Attack points are different, and my opponent targets one of them with "Fissure" can I use "Shift" to change the target to the monster with the higher Attack power to burn "Fissure"??

fissure does not target so no

Every Spell has to target something wad, but I don't know if Fissure would cancel out due to it's effect ~~Jlwr

  • Fissure does not target. It bases its effect on the monster with the lowest ATK on the opponent's field. This is already established in the rulings. You cannot use Shift against it. Danny Lilithborne 08:54, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Then can I shift the effect of Magical Cylinder since it targets a monster? ~Jlwr

Shift on a Magic Cylinder... hm, good one. I'm curious to know if it works as well. Eminentjonfrost 13:26, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

  • I don't think so because the card says in order for it to work, the opponent has to designate a target. "Magic Cylinder" targets, but the target isn't designated by the person who uses the card; it automatically targets an attacking monster. Danny Lilithborne 14:59, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

I think there was an old print of Shift that mentioned "another correct target" or something along those lines. I'm gonna go digging through my old stash for old Shifts to check for sure. Eminentjonfrost 15:19, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

  • "Shift" has to be used against a correct target. Since "Magic Cylinder" targets one attacking monster, you can't use "Shift" against it since there are no other attacking monsters. --Deus Ex Machina 19:14, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Shift does not state a correct target, it only states that to change the target of a spell, trap or monster attack. ~Jlwr

Ok.. New Idea

Ok... Please post any findings on what Shift can or cannot be used on cause this one card can cause lot's of problems. Like from previous posts... ~Jlwr

  • You seem to refuse to want to get it. It is very simple, but perhaps you want to cheat. The lore reads: You can activate this card when your opponent designates 1 monster on your side of the field as a target of a Spell, Trap, or battle attack. Switch the target to another monster on your side of the field. Your opponent has to designate the target, so it does not work on "Magic Cylinder" (which does not allow your opponent to select a target, even though it targets) or "Fissure" (which does not allow your opponent to select a target, and does not legally target). Easy. Danny Lilithborne 01:33, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Ok thx, cause my friend has been using Shift on me on like almost everything...And it's annoying so I wanted to get the facts right. ~Jlwr

  • "Shift" works on any card that targets, provided that there is another legal target to Shift the effect to. "Shift" can be used against "Brain Control" as long as there is another face-up monster. It can be used against "Nobleman of Crossout" as long as there is another face-down monster. It can be used against "Shield Crush" as long as there is another Defence Position monster. For you to use it against "Magic Cylinder", there has to be another monster attacking at the same time; but, two monsters can't attack simultaneously, so you cannot use "Shift".
And "Fissure" doesn't target, so it's out of the question. Same for "Smashing Ground", "Hammer Shot", "Bottomless Shifting Sand", "Skull Lair", "Dangerous Machine Type-6" (when you roll a 5), etc. since none of these target. --Deus Ex Machina 02:44, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
