Forum:So Zexal is using AR instead of holograms now?

From this wiki's Zexal page: In a city in the near future, in the Heartland, kids and adults are nuts about Augmented Reality Duels.

So in other words they're using a form technology that exists but is rarely used even in fiction (and not well known). Hmm intersting. Not only does the 3DS has it's own app for AR but now Zexal has Augmented Reality Duels I think the number of people who know about AR and interested in it will pick up in the near future. Wait, Augmented Reality is real? And the Duel Disks in Zexal are based on them? Huh. That's interesting; taking a real-world take on the duel disks. Also, now that you mention the 3DS having an app for it, can you imagine a Zexal game for that system built for that app? Folks, if it happens, this might be the closest we'll come to having an actual duel disk of our own. 66.228.109.2 (talk) 03:54, February 27, 2011 (UTC)

perhaps the next yugioh console game to come out will be on the 360 or ps3 and utilize their new motion capture technology, in conjunction with some form of wireless controller in the shape of a duel disk, to create online dueling using AR. that would be totally wicked!

Um sorry but a kinect or ps3 eye-only game will suck! Both of those are seriously overrated and exteremly hard to use. Not to mention pricey. Also what you're talking about is simulated reality. Also remeber that solid AR is actually a step backwards from solid holograms. You NEED a d-gazer in order to duel let alone watch a duel.... Mattwo (talkcontribs) 00:44, March 3, 2011 (UTC)

kay, first off it is apparent that someone can't tell the difference between reality and fantasy. second, there is no such thing as solid holograms, let alone solid augmented reality, except in fictional shows like yugioh. third, while I do agree that the motion cap device for the ps3 is a little more difficult to use than other such devices, the kinect is fairly simple to use, and would actually make a perfect fit for a SIMULATION of the dueling action depicted in Zexal. If you cannot make a rational arguement, I suggest you keep your immature "totally sucks" comments to yourself.

I would like to point out that they've already experimented with this kind of thing, in the PS3 game "The Eye of Judgment", and from what I'm reading, it got some pretty good reviews, so such technology IS possible, right now. And let's not forget the Card Scanner that was supposed to come out with Duel Transer. Konami is already looking into ways to incorporate the real cards and Augmented Reality tech into the video games, so let's give them the benefit of the doubt, eh?66.228.109.2 (talk) 17:13, March 3, 2011 (UTC)

that's what I was saying. thankyou for agreeing with me on this.

It's less agreeing with you than it is common sense; between the Eye of Judgment, the Duel Terminals, and the canceled Card Scanner, it's clear that Augmented Reality-type gameplay interaction between the video game and the physical cards is something Konami is looking into, and has proven to be viable. Now, will we be seeing actual Duel Disks, in our lifetime? I doubt it, but I CAN see the next gen Yugioh games for the home consoles taking the EoJ route and using the Kinect/PSEye to scan and project the physical cards into the game. The only thing that I can see could be a problem is programming in effects for all of the cards released, thus far, and figuring out how to stop people form using proxies for the game (since EoJ apparently couldn't distinguish the real cards for it from the fakes, even if the fakes were drawn by hand). 66.228.109.2 (talk) 04:43, March 4, 2011 (UTC)

I personally wouldn't mind if it would be easier to add Cards to the games, either by a Add-On Device Attachment (similar to the Device that Rock Band for the DS needed) or to just place the Physical Card onto the DS bottom Screen and it would scan the Card and we can use it in the Game. WITHOUT having to get ##% of the In-Game Pack just to be able to input the Card ID Number. Plus it would do away with having to manually input the Card ID Numbers. Then again, I would love if we were able to create our own Cards and put them into the Games for Non-Online Gameplay. Cause if that were ever possible, both my B.I.R.D. Empire & Demonlord Decks would be very happy. Maybe both/either of those things happening, will happen in the future one day.Altyrell (talkcontribs) 05:26, March 4, 2011 (UTC)

Interesting...I'd love to see what comes out of this. Probably not much though...{{SUBST:nosubst|User:BobaFett2/sig2}} 18:40, March 4, 2011 (UTC)
