Forum:Wiki Pages Look Odd?

From Yugipedia
Jump to: navigation, search

This is just a personal observation, but it seems like more space is now left between topics, like a double space looks like a triple space, and the deck templates have been acting odd for me, for example, the monster category has been longer than the rest of the categories even when no deck list is actually shown , is there a reason for this? ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 23:29, February 2, 2012 (UTC)

The spacing was added by Wikia. They said it had actually been increased by even more and they'd reduced it based on feedback.
Sorry, the Decklist thing might be my fault. I updated the Navbox template. I didn't realise it was doing that to the Decklist. I use the Monobook skin which is usually wider, so the problem doesn't occur there. I'll see about fixing it. -- Deltaneos (talk) 23:42, February 2, 2012 (UTC)
Took you couple months to notice that - I noticed as soon as I clicked down arrow on my keyboard at that time. --FredCat 23:57, February 2, 2012 (UTC)
Noticed it for a long time, but I thought it would fix itself. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 03:54, February 3, 2012 (UTC)
Which of the problems have been around for months or have both? The Decklist one is fixed now, unless you use "total m"/"total s"/"total t", but that can be fixed too. The space between sections can be easily fixed, but I'll try and find out why the change was made before looking into changing it back. -- Deltaneos (talk) 15:21, February 3, 2012 (UTC)

There's that problem where the page of many cards somehow becomes too wide, and requires clicking on the expanding arrow. Then there's another problem with the usual "spoiler tag" button, which are not appearing, making all categories in a card's page opened by default, which in turn makes the page very long. Here's an example

Screen Shot of issue.

As you can see there, the category boxes are all opened, while the info inside each boxes are being cut in half, which requires us to click on the expanding arrow to see the rest of the info.118.96.11.119 (talk) 15:56, February 3, 2012 (UTC)
How long have each of those problems been around does anyone know? Or how long have you noticed them?
The problem with card tables requiring you to click expand isn't happening for me, but I am seeing it with other tables. Another problem with it is JavaScript, including show/hide doesn't seem to work in the expanded view. We might be able to fix this by avoiding having the table going off the page by adding a "max-width" to the affected tables.
Regarding the missing show/hide buttons, you don't have JavaScript switched off, do you? If not, are the show/hide buttons always not appearing or is that just sometimes? Sometimes it can take the JavaScript a while to load. -- Deltaneos (talk) 20:40, February 3, 2012 (UTC)
Needing to click to expand some tables has been around for maybe a year. It's kind of rampant, too, so I assumed it was something that couldn't be helped (and thus never said anything). I'm using the New Wikia look on Firefox, if that makes any difference. Golden Key (talkcontribs) 20:51, February 3, 2012 (UTC)
That was what I don't like, which should NOT be added age ago. --FredCat 20:56, February 3, 2012 (UTC)
For anyone needing the expand button on card articles, is it happening here? -- Deltaneos (talk) 23:05, February 3, 2012 (UTC)
No, not there. Golden Key (talkcontribs) 01:10, February 4, 2012 (UTC)

I notice this problem for a while. Here is what is going on, if you are not log in, this is what happen [1]. If you are log in, this is what you see [2]. This is the only problem, I am facing. WinterNightmare (talkcontribs) 19:56, February 4, 2012 (UTC)

Thanks WinterNightmare. That should make it easier to find the problem. Anyway, the sandbox page still messes-up with the max-width when you're logged out. So we'll need to find another solution... -- Deltaneos (talk) 20:04, February 4, 2012 (UTC)
Golden Key: On Firefox, do you ever get the problem while logged in? -- Deltaneos (talk) 20:06, February 4, 2012 (UTC)
The issue WinterNight seems to be having doesn't appear in Google Chrome. It does appear in Firefox. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 21:00, February 4, 2012 (UTC)
But his screenshots are from Chrome. -- Deltaneos (talk) 21:04, February 4, 2012 (UTC)
Hmm, well, my browser is fine. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 21:11, February 4, 2012 (UTC)
I actually do get the issue when logged in. But I don't have this issue on Tour Guide's page. Maybe different browsers have trouble with different pages. Golden Key (talkcontribs) 23:03, February 4, 2012 (UTC)
Okay, if you're experiencing this issue and you want to report it here, please list the following information: browser and version (including the release channel - e.g. for Chrome, it would be one of Stable, Beta, Dev, or Canary, and for Firefox, it would be Stable, Beta, Aurora, and Nightly), operating system, and the specific pages you observe it happening on. If it doesn't happen consistently on one or more pages, you should note that, too (and be sure to note *which* pages it happens inconsistently on!). ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 23:10, February 4, 2012 (UTC)
I have a few screen shots of what starts to happen to the card table boxes when the card pages first start to load. 1 and 2. What the card tables start to do at first is expand to as much as the page width, then retract after the page has finished loading. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 00:55, February 6, 2012 (UTC)
I know that we're reporting the pages that we see issues on, but can the issues be fixed? ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 23:35, February 8, 2012 (UTC)

Reports[edit]

Even if the page don't have a expanded button, the template would be open. Every page I went, have the template open and not close. Two problems are the expended button and the template being open. WinterNightmare (talkcontribs) 01:38, February 7, 2012 (UTC)
Dark Dust Spirit and Forbidden Arts of the Gishki have the expanding box problem because they have a really long video games title next to the lore. By removing the video game title/lore, the expanding box problem is gone, but that doesn't mean the problem of logged in or logged out is fixed. WinterNightmare (talkcontribs) 04:49, February 7, 2012 (UTC)

Good new/Bad new[edit]

I found the problem, it was Card Search Categories that is now causing the problems. There are three types of expanded button which are Card Search Categories, Errata Table, and Video games Title.

Expanded button (CSC)
Problem: Card Search Categories
Solution: Get rid of unnecessary info or change the Card Search Categories within CardTable2.

Expanded button (VGT)
Problem: Video games title
Solution: Shorten the the Video Game Title or get rid of it.

Expanded button (ET)
Problem: Errata/Cards
Solution: Add another Errata Table, I believe.

This still doesn't mean the problems are over. The template, nav box, and decklists are still open whenever I log out. WinterNightmare (talkcontribs) 18:31, February 11, 2012 (UTC)

Thanks, that's pinpointed the problem with card tables requiring the expanded view. "Nowrap" is something that prevents words from going onto new lines when the sentence reaches an edge. There's a CSS rule applying this nowrap to links in the collapsible boxes on card tables, including the card search categories. It should be easy to fix. -- Deltaneos (talk) 23:05, February 13, 2012 (UTC)
The fix to the problem with the card search categories has been live for a few days now. Is anyone still needing to click the expanded view button?
Where are the video game titles that you mentioned being used?
Errata tables, could be fixed by either putting only three columns in each row or by changing each column to an inline block.
Are you still having the problem with show/hide while logged out? -- Deltaneos (talk) 17:16, February 17, 2012 (UTC)
Artwork pages and Galleries with widths of 350px still need to be expanded (I've been reducing any I find to 250), but I've not noticed card pages with the problem in the last few days. Golden Key (talkcontribs) 19:09, February 17, 2012 (UTC)
Could you link to an example of each?
Deltaneos: I've been thinking about doing exactly that; I just haven't gotten around to it yet. I'm probably going to do the same for the black-header table under card tables as well; that would make a lot of logic ridiculously simpler. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 22:01, February 17, 2012 (UTC)
Naturally when I look for a Gallery that's doing this I can't find one. But here's an artwork page: Card Artworks:Supporter in the Shadows. --Golden Key (talkcontribs) 00:03, February 18, 2012 (UTC)
Fred's fix reminds me to mention another problem I've been having on the site in the past few days: The Preview isn't showing red links. What's up with that? --Golden Key (talkcontribs) 00:17, February 18, 2012 (UTC)
Generally speaking, you should remove any "perrow" tag you come across in galleries; it isn't needed and just causes problems on the Wikia skin and small screens. In addition, if "width" is specified, "height" is ignored by the parser and should just be removed.
Does the problem still happen on Card Artworks pages if you just reduce the width to 300px?
That's due to a change in the visual editor which accidentally removed a class on links to nonexistent pages; it should be fixed sometime soon. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 00:21, February 18, 2012 (UTC)
Gotcha.
Yes, the problem persists. I also notice it on the anti-support page, due to how narrow the page is compared to the older one.
Thanks for clearing that up. --Golden Key (talkcontribs) 00:40, February 18, 2012 (UTC)

For the Expanded button (VGT), under Card Descriptions, the game have the full name.

For example, I will use the World Championship Game Series. Yu-Gi-Oh! Ultimate Masters: World Championship 2006, Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2007, Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2008, Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's World Championship 2009: Stardust Accelerator, Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's World Championship 2010: Reverse of Arcadia, and Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's World Championship 2011: Over the Nexus.

Under the Video Game Sets, the game have short name.

For example, I will use the World Championship Game Series again. World Championship 2006, World Championship 2007, World Championship 2008, World Championship 2009, World Championship 2010, and World Championship 2011.

See the difference between the Card Descriptions and the Video Game Sets. We need to shorten the name, so that the expanded button will not appear.

New Problem:Expanded Button (Decklist), it can only be seen in III page. The problem occur because of Number 32: Marine Biting Dragon - Shark Drake and Number 33: OOPArts Super Weapon Masshu Maq. By getting rid of them, the expanded button is gone. Yes I am still having the problem with show/hide while logged out. WinterNightmare (talkcontribs) 20:47, February 18, 2012 (UTC)

Another extended button, can be found in Template:Duelist Kingdom, still having problem with show/hide while logged out. WinterNightmare (talkcontribs) 21:17, February 25, 2012 (UTC)
Made that navbox a bit thinner, so it should fit now. -- Deltaneos (talk) 21:31, February 25, 2012 (UTC)

Found a gallery. --Golden Key (talkcontribs) 20:53, February 19, 2012 (UTC)

Ooh, yeah, that's an older-style gallery (using a hardcoded table instead of the <gallery/> tag). I though Falzar got all of those updated a while back? In any case, if you run across any pages like that, change it to use {{GalleryHeader}} (if it doesn't already) and the <gallery/> tag. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 21:00, February 19, 2012 (UTC)
I went ahead and fixed the Mataza the Zapper Gallery. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 00:10, February 22, 2012 (UTC)
I didn't update the older-style one. I did update the older one that was used before that though; the older-older-style. I mentioned it here.
There aren't many pages using those older-style ones, so I didn't bot it, as it would probably have taken longer to write the instructions. Gallery1 might be worth it, but Gallery2, 3, 4 and 5 should be faster manually updated. -Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 14:13, March 12, 2012 (UTC)
Could someone also fix the site so that Decklists that use "total m"/"total s"/"total t", would also be fixed? ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 14:01, March 11, 2012 (UTC)
Can you link to an example and explain what's broken about it? ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 19:35, March 11, 2012 (UTC)
This is a link to a deck posted on my talk page. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 20:24, March 11, 2012 (UTC)
I'm not seeing what's broken there; the counts appear just fine to me. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 07:15, March 12, 2012 (UTC)
The monster category sticks below the Spell and Trap categories for the deck templates that use the totals. The counts themselves are fine, but the appearance of the template after editing is what I'm talking about. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 13:55, March 12, 2012 (UTC)
Fixed now. -- Deltaneos (talk) 14:43, March 12, 2012 (UTC)

Great?[edit]

Well, thanks for fixing the templates guys, but now there seems to be another problem? I can't see the show/hide buttons that normally appear, and I waited for the entire page to load, cleared my cache, and changed my view to the Mono Book view. This this a cause of the recent Template:Decklist fixes? I've posted up a screenshot, and am wondering if other users have this issue, or is it just me?

This is a screen shot my issue....

---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 17:20, March 15, 2012 (UTC)

This has also, been happening to the Navbox I use on my talk/user page to show my Archives. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 17:22, March 15, 2012 (UTC)

This seems to be an on-again, off-again issue that we really can't do much about ourselves, I think. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 17:50, March 15, 2012 (UTC)
I see, well, its not that big an issue. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 19:24, March 15, 2012 (UTC)
It doesn't seem to be broken on other wikis and the only change to our local JS around the time this started happening was this one. I'm no JS expert, but I don't see anything there that could be causing it. Can you look Dinoguy? -- Deltaneos (talk) 02:12, March 17, 2012 (UTC)
Well that seems to have been the problem. I've removed it and show/hide is working again. Although, I still don't see how it was causing the problem or how it could even be affecting any browsers other than Internet Explorer. -- Deltaneos (talk) 13:11, March 18, 2012 (UTC)
Yo, I used Chromo site and it showed as well. --FredCat 13:17, March 18, 2012 (UTC)
Firefox agrees that show/hide is now fixed. But, I don't mind them being always open, saves me having to open them to see things xD
I'm curious about what you said about it not breaking on other wikis. If it's true, then how about another wiki using the exact same .js file as here. If testing that also breaks, then it'll be because another bit of code clashes with this one. If it doesn't, then it'll be interesting. -Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 13:28, March 18, 2012 (UTC)
It's actually affected to all site, no matter what type they used. At least Delta found the problem and fixed it. I should agreeing with you, Falzar - it was pleasure time with them open 24/7. --FredCat 13:31, March 18, 2012 (UTC)
That's my point FredCat, the JavaScript that's causing the problem is only meant to target Internet Explorer. I was saying I don't understand how it was affecting other browsers.
Falzar: Could do. It's definitely this bit of code that's causing the problem. And since the entire thing inside this if; if ( $.client.profile().name == 'msie' ), nothing inside the if should appear on anything other than "msie" (Microsoft Internet Explorer). But since it is having an affect on other browsers I can only guess that the problem is with the if itself; an out-of-place bracket or an undefined function. I think it's more likely we're missing code than have another piece of code clashing with it. Then again, I don't know a lot about JavaScript. -- Deltaneos (talk) 16:01, March 18, 2012 (UTC)
I think I see the problem now. We need this ResourceLoader to use the stuff in that if condition. Wikis with MediaWiki 1.17 have it by default. Wikia is still only on 1.16, so it won't work here yet. -- Deltaneos (talk) 16:08, March 18, 2012 (UTC)
That's not cool. Shoot. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 17:55, March 18, 2012 (UTC)

Hide/Show effect[edit]

Today, I am suffering from hide/show effect when I am either log in or log out. Everything is open and not closed. Is there a way to fix this. WinterNightmare (talkcontribs) 22:00, March 16, 2012 (UTC)

Where were you last two days? I went through this since - and it reduced an issue for me to open up the deck recipe. --FredCat 22:02, March 16, 2012 (UTC)
Where was I, I was doing college stuff and I might not come back for a while. WinterNightmare (talkcontribs) 22:04, March 16, 2012 (UTC)
Well, this issue was being around for two days, till today. You didn't know about that - and I am ok with it; I am aware that's site glitch. --FredCat 22:05, March 16, 2012 (UTC)
Is the site cycling through problems? First Redlinks weren't showing in Preview, then redirects were showing up in the search, now this. --Golden Key (talkcontribs) 02:37, March 17, 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, this is slightly annoying, and has been going on for a few days. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 00:55, March 18, 2012 (UTC)
It just happened - each time I tried to create an article with the link, I always hover my mouse over the blue link to see if it's exist or not, if it's not exist, then it should show "(Link not exist)" or whatever after that article's name. At least new habit creating when that problem(s) come up. --FredCat 00:57, March 18, 2012 (UTC)
