Hello, and thank you for visiting this topic. Out of sheer perversity, I decided to come up with two decks based on little used archetypes. This is one of the two: a wind deck. The current card count in this deck is 44, so it definitely needs help. The card list as it stands so far follows.
Winds of Change
|
---|
Side Deck is currently:
- Mirror of Oaths 3X
- Shadow-Imprisoning Mirror 3X
- Light-Imprisoning Mirror 3X
- Curse of Royal 2X
Here are my thought processes, in no pariticular order
- When I looked at all the Wind attribute cards, Harpies were all that stood out. Thus, this deck is centered on Harpies.
- Flying Kamakiri #1 helps me dig Harpies out of the Deck
- Harpie Queen seemed like a better choice than either Cyber Harpie Lady, or Harpie Lady Sisters, so I went with her
- Jowls of Dark Demise is in here because I like its effect - it allows me to take control of an opponent's monster.
- Sasuke Samurai is here for his effect too. Nice to kill a face-down monster with impunity.
- XX-Saber Fulhelmknight allows me to search for X-Saber Airbellum (both are Tuners).
- Storm Shooter - heck, I just like this card's quirkly effect. He IS a monster killer (one of the few with a Wind attribute), and, being a Winged-Beast, he also gets a boost from Harpie's Hunting Ground. His ATK is 2300 too.
- Whirlwind Prodigy is here simply as tribute fodder (a two for one deal)
- Aqua Chorus, Harpie's Hunting Ground, and Cithonian Alliance all boost my monster's attacks (all the various Harpies are treated as 'Harpie Lady'.)
- Elegant Egotist allows me to special summon an additional Harpie Lady from my hand or Deck.
- Symbol of Heritage allows me to drag Harpies back from the Graveyard (ditto for Hysteric Party)
- Feather of the Phoenix allows me to return any card I'd like from the Graveyard to the top of my deck - monster, spell, or trap.
Here now are my questions.
- This deck is too heavy. Any suggestions on what to get rid of?
- Along with that, any suggestions on how to improve it? Wish I could get it up to Tourney strength, but I don't think THAT's gonna happen - not if I want to stick to Wind-attribute critters, that is. And please, don't suggest "Solemn Judgement". In my opinion, that is the most overused, overpriced card there is. That's why I have Curse of Royal in my side deck - slap me with a Solemn Judgement, and I'm gonn sic a Curse of Royal on you next duel (Curse of Royal trumps Solemn Judgement, from what I understand).
- Finally, if I do need to dig into my side-deck to deal with Lightsworns or Black-wings, or Gladiator Beasts...what cards should I change out of my normal deck?
Thanks for any input you'd care to give. It helps me to learn, and to become a better duelist.

you can only run a total of three of any of the following: Harpie lady, Harpie lady 1, Harpie lady 2, and Harpie lady 3. they are ruled to all be conisdered as "Harpie lady" in the deck soyou can only run a total of 3 in any combination. Lord eriee 11:25, September 24, 2009 (UTC)
also premature burial is banned in advanced format. i would suggest running spell of pain over barrel behind the door it is more versatile. Lord eriee 11:29, September 24, 2009 (UTC)
Hmmm. That's not what the Tips page for "Harpie Queen" in this Wikia indicates. Here's what it says:
- Because this card name is treated as "Harpie Lady" only while on the field or in the Graveyard, it gets around the restriction of other Harpie monsters that limit them to a total of 3 of any Harpie Lady. Therefore, you can now have 6 monsters in your deck that are treated as Harpie Lady. This allows for even more powering up of Harpie's Pet Dragon or Harpie's Pet Baby Dragon, without having to use Harpie Lady Sisters or Harpie Girl.
That says to me that having Harpie Queen AND all the Harpie Lady(s) is allowed. Of course, I suppose the tip could be wrong, or that I've misunderstood it. Thoughts, anyone?

According to the Harpies page you can have 3 of any card that's called Harpie lady in the deck (Harpie Lady 1, Harpie Lady 2,Harpie Lady 3, Harpie Lady and Cyber Harpie Lady) However Harpie Queen is only treated as a Harpie Lady when it is on the field or in the graveyard so you can have 3 of that aswell. Thanks for the clarification! BTW, Lord Eriee, you're right about the Premature Burial - don't know how THAT got by me (LOL). I took it out and added another Feather of the Phoenix. The deck list reflects those changes. Thanks for pointing it out.

Wind Changes
I've been trying to update my old Harpie's deck since Synchro's came out, but it's been hard. Up until EBI there wasn't anything really worth running together with them, and they were pretty few in number. As stated before you could only run 3 of each harpie lady whose name is always Harpie Lady (Harpie Lady 1/2/3, Cyber Harpie Lady, Harpie Lady), 3 Harpie Queen, and I would daresay at least 2 Harpie's Pet Baby Dragon. I've also learned that the Baby Dragon's get an effect based on Harpie's Pet Dragon as well, since it's name is "Harpie" and the card doesn't say to not count Harpie's Pet Dragon. Aside from that, if you want to make it a pure Harpie's deck, Birdface is the way to go, as that will summon any card whose name is "Harpie Lady", thus bringing out any of your Harpie Lady 1's or Cyber Harpie Lady's if you choose to run them instead.
This is how I'd do the Harpie's part:
3 Harpie Lady 1 3 Harpie Queen 2 Harpie's Pet Baby Dragon 2 Harpie's Pet Dragon 3 Birdface 2 Flying Kamakiri 1
Now the rest of your monsters seem to have really good effects. I like Storm Shooter especially. It can really deal with cards like Stardust Dragon and the like by returning them to the hand. It's like a more effective Raiza. But now that Raiza the Storm Monarch is at three, I would suggest putting him in there as well, at least at 2. He gets a boost from your Harpie Lady 1's and your Harpie's Hunting Ground. Maybe putting an extra Storm Shooter would be cool too.
A good combo with Harpie's Hunting Ground is playing it, activating Field Barrier to protect it, then activating Anti-Spell Fragrance. What that does is cause them to play EVERYTHING F/D in their spell/trap zone, and then you can destroy them all with your summoning Harpie cards. I've had a chance to test it out, and it's really effective.
Now here's what I'd take out: Copycat - He's a good card when you want to prevent them from attacking you with something big, but in my experience something along the lines of Cyber Shadow Gardna worked a lot better. Slate Warrior - A good 1900 beatstick who could become even stronger sure, but I just don't like him in this deck... Symbol of Heritage - It brings back ONE of your dead Harpies, but Hysteric Party brings back all of'em. If you need a dead Harpie that badly, that's when you should use Call of the Haunted. Barrel Behind the Door - Like someone suggested before Spell of Pain works that much better. :) So swap it with this.
Here are some maybes: Mystical Space Typhoon - Now the only reason I say maybe, is because you already have Harpie's Hunting Ground. So this could go either way. My personal opinion is if I'm using Anti-Spell, I would just rely on Hunting Ground. Magic Jammer - If you put in Anti-Spell Fragrance, you won't need this since Harpie's Hunting Ground will essentially do what this does for you. If you don't put in Anti-Spell Fragrance, I'd keep this or add another one at least.
Other then that, everything else is great. If you really want to add tourney-level power though, I'd start adding Earthbound Immortals, since Harpie's have their own field card and can be summoned so easily :) Just my own suggestion! Katsuma-San 18:13, September 24, 2009 (UTC)
Many Thanks!
Thanks so much for the great tips! Looks like I'll be looking for an Earthbound Immortal Aslla piscu to add in too!

Deck Changes
Based on the feedback, here's what the new deck would look like.
Winds of Change - Proposed
|
---|
Proposed Side Deck:
- Mirror of Oaths 3X
- Shadow-Imprisoning Mirror 3X
- Light-Imprisoning Mirror 3X
- Curse of Royal 2X
- Storm Shooter
- Raiza the Storm Monarch
- Whirlwind Prodigy
Current deck count: 42 (21 monsters, 13 spells, 8 trap)
Darn, it was hard giving up Storm Shooter! Still, since Synchro monsters are so easy to get out, I thought it'd be best to limit the number of big monsters in my deck (that's why there's only one Harpie's Pet Dragon as well). So out goes Storm Shooter and Raiza the Storm Monarch, straight into the side deck, just in case Earthbound Immortal Aslla piscu doesn't pan out.
Also upped Harpie's Hunting Ground by 1, since Earthbound Immortal Aslla piscu is dependent on a Field Card.
Any more suggestions or comments?

My opinion!
This looks absolutely playable :) You have a 42 card deck, so what I'd do with it is either add 3 cards you think would help (Maybe Terraforming and some other useful spells/traps?) or reduce it by two so you can get your cards easier. Now if you chose the latter, I can't possibly tell you what to take out :/ Either way good luck with it! :) Katsuma-San 16:29, September 25, 2009 (UTC)
One Last Change!
I took out Whirlwind Prodigy, moving him to the side deck, and put in Rallis the Star Bird. With Earthbound Immortal Aslla piscu in this particular line-up, Whirlwind wasn't buying me much.
