I was thinking of starting a list of known scammers would anyone be willing to help? Randomdog 17:27, 29 January 2008 (UTC)Randomdog

No, a list like that could circle the planet over and over again. And the length of the list is not the only problem.

It is hard to prove who is a scammer and who is not, and innocent accounts could be blacklisted either by accident, by lack of knowledge of what a scam is and what it is not, or on purpose from someone wrongly trying to put a seller out of buisness for personal matters.

Another problem is that a scammer can make new accounts all the time, perhaps even every time he or she scams another person. The list could then be filled up with accounts of the same person over and over, with no hope of stopping the scammer.

Yet another problem with the list is that some people will ignore the warnings and tips, and just search if the seller's account is on the list or not. The list can't be updated quick enough to reveal all the new scam artists, nor can it fully cover all of the existing scam accounts, as some are very tricky about their deeds.

The last problem is that it barely has anything to do with Yu-Gi-Oh! The eBay Scams page was 'far out' already (although I appreciate it much neverless). Members and guests of Yu-Gi-Oh Wikia should know how to find scammers themselves, as that's what the Yu-Gi-Oh! eBay Scams article is for. Thegargoylevine 19:26, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

Buying on ebay[edit]

I want to put my two cents in about buying BULK cards. What I do is Buy cards from sellers who are selling off there collection. What I do is look for a sellers with low feed back (5-100 or so, of course 100% feedback) like I just got 250 cards from a seller with only 20/100% feedback for only $10.00 bid and 10.00 S/H and got 12 rares. This makes it so you get the rares (may not be the ones you want) that haven't been picked through by Dealers/Sellers/Scammers that sell cards for a living(like most out there).

Get Your Game On![edit]

"Another deal that is most likely impossible is selling 3 copies of Get Your Game On!. "

This strikes me as odd, is there any reason for this statement? GYGO! was mass printed - even though given away at one event only, is it that strange to think someone would obtain extra copies from others, specifically to sell?

I myself bought three on a single eBay auction, for $40US, and the card's average price is (at that time) around $15. It just seems odd that this one would be used as an 'almost impossible' example since it's neither particularly desirable, expensive, nor hard to obtain in multiples. Secret to Pulling Rare Cards!?[edit]

  • Ok, I just saw the stupidest thing ever on ebay: The secret to pulling rare cards from booster packs for sale. There's actually people foolish enough to pay for this!? Anybody ever heard of Scaling!? Scam right? Bluedog187 19:36, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
  • No, even if it's common knowledge, it's still legal. 92.29.203.49 23:34, November 1, 2009 (UTC)

Coin Flip or Die Roll Auctions[edit]

I sent eBay a message asking about those coin flip and die roll auctions that can be found all over the place. The message I got back said that it is not legal! Might it be worth mentioning in the article?

Here is the reply I got from eBay:

Dear [redacted],

Thank you for writing eBay in regard to chance listings such as what you described.

eBay does not permit listings that sell or advertise an opportunity to win an item or prize either by chance or in connection with a skill contest. This applies to giveaways, lotteries, sweepstakes, random drawings, raffles, contests, or prizes.

These types of promotions are highly regulated and may be unlawful in many states. For more information on the eBay Chance Listings policy, please visit:

Thank you for being a valuable member of the eBay community.

Sincerely,

Additional Information User ID: [redacted] Item Number: Question Text Is it legal under eBay's rules if an auction contains a coin flip or die roll that will determine what item you will get? Delete?[edit]

I've noticed that this page is not written from a neutral point of view (i.e. un-encyclopedic), which would usually warrant a cleanup. However:

  • This article is orphaned. It was on the main page, but has since been removed. It might not see a lot of traffic, which makes future edits to this article difficult to keep track of, such as vandalism and much of what is on the current page.
  • The last edit was from 19/11/10, which could indicate the lack of interest in this. It's most likely due to its removal from the Main Page though.
  • This page gets very, very little user-based traffic. Not necessarily a bad thing, but most of the IPs on this page, which make up the bulk of the edits, tend to ignore styles of writing required by a wiki (neutrality). When ends up as such, we don't have enough users experienced enough to "patrol" the article. Since this article is main space, neutrality and an encyclopedic tone should be enforced, and going by what has been going on in the talk page and the history, I don't think it's strict enough.
  • Lastly, I fail to see how teaching people against eBay scams is relevant to compiling information on the "Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise". This seems more like general knowledge.

Personally, I would like this page deleted, or moved to a non-main space sub page at the very least. Perhaps (extensive) cleanup should be done on the page if it is decided that we keep this page. Toob (talkcontribs)

I think this page could be very useful if it was cleaned up. The biggest problem with unpatrolled edits, I think, is that the page wasn't on many users' watchlists (I added it to mine a couple of months ago IIRC), meaning not many people would have been notified of when the page was edited (assuming they opted in to email notifications for changes to pages on their watchlist in the first place).
I would suggest this page get moved to project space, marked as needing cleanup, and several other users add it to their watchlists. I've been meaning to work on it some, but haven't gotten around to it yet. ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 20:27, January 16, 2011 (UTC)

Post-Movement to Forum[edit]

Now that it's here, should we pin this such that it doesn't get lost over time? --Gadjiltron (talkcontribs) 13:59, November 1, 2013 (UTC)

I was considering doing that. --Golden Key (talkcontribs) 14:07, November 1, 2013 (UTC)

EBAY BUYER/SELLER SCAMMER LIST[edit]

== I'm starting this if no one wants to... Yes, I know that the list may go on forever but it has to start somewhere so we can put it on our ebay buyer/seller ban list. If you plan to add please tell us if its a buyer or seller and the reason your putting his/her name here.

Ebay Name: 1arede (Buyer) Real Name: Rahad Zawawi Reason: Guy bought yugioh cards from me and then a few days later filed an unreceived claim w/o even sending me a single email or communication. ==
