Appearance[edit]

Full-body view of Gakugen.

Gakugen closely resembles his descendant Gavin; he is a tall young man with blue eyes and close-cropped purple hair that hangs over his eyes. He is shown dressed in a grey tunic and pants, a black sleeveless coat with a white lining and his family crest on the back akin to Gavin's modern kimono, and segmented armor in blue shades on his shoulders, torso, forearms and boots. He also carries a similar fan to Gavin and wears a black band around his forehead with a silver protector.

Biography[edit]

History[edit]

Gakugen created Sogetsu Style during feudal times. During these times they were attacked by an enemy and surrounded on all sides, but Gakugen used Sogetsu Style - finding a clear path with his aides Raynkage and Rinkage Nanahoshi by his side, yet without distraction, to be victorious. This would become the way of life and battle for the Sogetsu family and their attendants, the Nanahoshi family, for generations.[1]

During another altercation with the enemy, Gakugen, Raynkage and Rinkage were surrounded by enemy forces. Raynkage and Rinkage encouraged Gakugen not to be held back by meaningless customs and praised his boldness, and Gakugen initially believed he should choose to die a warrior's death. However upon recalling someone telling him not to be ashamed of anything he stood up on his horse and began acting the fool, entertaining his enemies with his antics. Word of Gakugen's antics soon spread to the enemy lord and gave him a great reputation, enabling their two countries to join in peace. The Sogetsus became famous for Gakugen's contributions in ending the war, carving open a road by breaking free of discipline and tradition, and the beginning of Sogetsu Style.[2]

Team Battle Royal[edit]

During his Rush Duel with Nail Saionji, Gakugen's descendant Gavin had tried to evolve Sogetsu Style with a more modern take, but only succeeded in embarrassing himself. During a power outage in Goha Stadium, Gavin saw the image of his ancestor in the moon and experienced Gakugen's devision of his path, realizing what Sogetsu Style truly was.[1]

King of Duels[edit]

After Gavin lost his memories of Rush Dueling to the effects of Yuga Goha's "Monster Reborn", he Rush Dueled Rino Nanahoshi for breaking the rules. During the Duel, Rino began acting with the same modern style of "DJ G" that Gavin previously had and inflicted damage to Gavin, causing Gavin to remember his antics as DJ G and how Gakugen had done the same when surrounded by the enemy. Gavin reflecting that this was the true beginning of Sogetsu Style, a statement Gakugen agreed with.[2]
