Same as Image Policy[edit]

This is just a duplicate of the current Image Policy... do we need two different pages to say the same thing?--Pcouw 23:08, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

O_O This page is just horrid, there are some false claims that just aren't right:

  • Spaces within file names are not an issue. Spaces, Slashes, and :'s are all either stripped out or converted to underscores in the file names and titles. So there is no "space issue" because MediaWiki automatically converts the name to a good filename which everyone can nicely use from any system, before it saves it to the filesystem.
  • There is no issue with large images. In fact, while the page says 300 × 450 pixels should be the limit all wiki sites which know how the system works actually recommend uploading even higher resolution images than that. A few things to clear up:
    • Wikia has a nice large space dedicated to the storage of the images, in fact since deleted images are kept as well in addition to past revisions, the space for some extra quality doesn't bother Wikia at all.
    • There is no issue of an image being to big on a page. The image syntax nicely allows for a image size to be specified, in fact something like should take a nice high-res image and size it to nicely fit the normal size we have images displayed at, the smaller sized images will be scaled up to.
    • The mention of older systems in the article is false, the users who are affected by large sizes are dial-up users, not people with systems that are a few years old. (Mine is actually a year or 3 old, fairly low priced at the time, and still runs quite fast enough)
    • There is no issue with large images slowing down load times for users. Proper use of the images in the wiki would be the that I mentioned. Using this syntax there is no extra load for the users no matter what quality or size of the image is uploaded. Whatever the image's original size, when you specify a size for an article MediaWiki never dishes out the original image unless the image size is the same as the original size. MediaWiki uses an image program to save resized versions of the image and dishes those out. So if you upload a image at 1240x1240px and then stick in a 124px size on the image and stick it in an article. The person does not load a 1240x1240px image, they load a small 124x124px image which only takes a few seconds to load even though the image you uploaded would have taken them quite some time to load. So large images do not harm users with bad connections.

Moderators?[edit]

Recently, I've encountered someone named "Lionheart2004" that was undoing a revision on Don Zaloog's tips. On that note, who are the real moderators for this wiki? If there's a page showing their name, can you lead me to it? Thanks. In the meantime, I'm going to undo the undo revision done by "Lionheart2004".--CyberDarkEdge 16:41, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

Lionheart2004 usually does a good job on the tip pages. Not sure what this has to do with moderators, but the list can be found here. -- Deltaneos 17:36, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

<br> in XHTML[edit]

I was just doing some research on XHTML and the difference between <br> and <br />. (I've been erasing the "/" because I didn't think it was needed. Now I know better and will stop doing it.) I have noticed that many coders are using <br/> instead of <br />. Apparently, according to XHTML syntax, there is supposed to be a space between the "br" and the "/". Right now there doesn't seem to be a problem because this site is using HTML. But it will be a problem if the site upgrades to XHTML. --Astromath 03:20, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

Adding links to navigation panels[edit]

Can someone help me to add some new articles to a navigation panel so it can be complete? I wanna do it to the Reptiless navigation panel. Thx. Asukatenjouin 07:10, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

Interwiki Prefix[edit]

We need to add an interwiki prefix for yugioh wikia. I need an admin to do this.

Here is the location of the software: 1 Zortron (talkcontribs) 20:04, May 15, 2013 (UTC)
