- 氷水 (base)
- ヒスイ (ruby)
- Hisui (romanized)
"Icejade" (氷水 Hisui) is an archetype of female WATER Aqua monsters introduced in Burst of Destiny.
The Japanese name for the archetype is a pun, with the individual kanji charaters being the Japanese characters for ice (氷; on'yomi: hyou) and water (水; on'yomi: sui). The character for "ice" is applied with one of its alternative readings, hi, making it so that the name's combined reading forms the Japanese word for jade, hisui (Japanese: ヒスイ).
The monsters are named after members of two different silicate groups: monoclinic amphiboles and monoclinic pyroxenes. These two silicate groups are respectively associated with the two main types of jade: nephrite and jadeite. "Icejade Ship Kingfisher" is named after the Chinese word for "jadeite", which is taken from the Chinese word for "kingfisher birds". Jadeite is considered to be among the highest quality of jade.
The "Icejade" monsters are life forms made out of a crystalline substance with water-like properties. At the end of their lifespans, they condense and harden into patterned black crystals, which are used to forge the swords wielded by the "Swordsoul" monsters.
Several "Icejade" monsters wear ornaments modeled after jade vines, a plant that is native to their home, as shown in "Icejade Depths Inion Cradle".
The pyroxene-based "Icejade" monsters wear crowns, seemingly to represent their statuses as royalty. This references jadeite's status as a higher-quality jade.
