Wheeler, Joey

Joey Wheeler is a Duelist Construct of Joey Wheeler from the Yu-Gi-Oh! series in the Virtual Dueling System. He is also the opponent that the player faced in Stage 4-3 of the Classic Campaign mode in Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Generation. The player has to defeat him in a Duel in order to unlock the next stage and progress Campaign mode.

Appearance[edit]

As a Duelist Construct, his appearance is based on Joey Wheeler, and the outfit is what he wore during his time at Domino High School in the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime series.

Etymology[edit]

His surname "Wheeler" could be from the character Wheeler from Captain Planet who also has a Brooklyn accent (and his given name "Joey" could be from the actor named Joey Dedio who voices Wheeler). It may also be an homage to Joseph Wheeler, a commander during the American Civil War.

Rewards[edit]

There are a total of six rewards that the player can earn and received after defeating the Duel Construct in a Duel. The first two rewards are cards that come from the Duel Construct's Deck and the third reward is a recipe for their Deck. Then the fourth, fifth and sixth rewards repeated the same process of the three earlier rewards, but in a harder difficulty with a different Deck. In addition, the sixth reward will allow the player to have the Duel Construct's avatar and the ability to Duel them anytime between the two difficulty.

Deck[edit]

In the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime series, during the Duelist Kingdom arc, after Joey Wheeler defeats Rex Raptor in a Duel involving the card "Red-Eyes B. Dragon" as a prize, he starts to use "Red-Eyes" as his signature card whenever there is a situation that he can't overcome with his other cards. Then when he lost his card "Red-Eyes" to the Rare Hunters Seeker in a Ante Duel during the Battle City arc, he starts to relies on his other cards which many of them have situational effects that involves luck and timing.

In Duel Generation, the Duelist Construct plays a Deck called Red-Eyes, and "Red-Eyes B. Dragon" is the signature card just like Joey's Deck in Duelist Kingdom. "Red-Eyes" is a Level 7 Dragon monster with 2400 ATK/2000 DEF, and it needs two Tributes to be Tribute Summoned. Besides "Red-Eyes", this Deck does indeed have cards with situational effects, and many of them have the effect to increases the monster ATK and/or DEF. The cards that can increase the monster's ATK are "Divine Sword - Phoenix Blade", "Graceful Dice", "Lightning Blade", "Blast with Chain", "Kunai with Chain", and "Metalmorph". "Phoenix Blade" and "Lightning Blade" are both Equip Cards that can equip to a Warrior monster and increases its ATK. Also, these Warrior Equip Card have a additional effect, "Phoenix Blade" can add itself to the hand from the owner's Graveyard by banishing 2 Warrior from the owner's Graveyard while "Lightning Blade" will lower the ATK of all WATER monsters on the field. "Graceful Dice" can increases 100 ATK and DEF of the owner's monster by the dice roll result, and this card has the counterpart called "Skull Dice" which does the opposite by lowering 100 ATK and DEF to the opponent's monster by the dice roll result. "Blast", "Kunai", and "Metalmorph" are unique Traps that can target a monster and equip itself to the monster to increases its ATK. Also these Traps have a additional effect, "Blast" can destroy a card if it was equip to a monster and destroyed by an opponent's card effect, "Kunai" change a opponent's monster to Defense Position when it declares an attack and this effect can be activated along with the equipping effect, and lastly, "Metalmorph" can allow the targeted monster to gains ATK equal to half the ATK of the attack target, during damage calculation only.

After the player defeat Joey's Red-Eyes Deck three times, the next difficulty and Deck is unlocked. "Jinzo" is a card that Joey starts to used after winning the card from Espa Roba in a Ante Duel during the Battle City arc.

The Jinzo Deck focuses on Summoning the signature card "Jinzo", and it is Level 6 Machine monster that requires one Tribute to be Tribute Summoned. Once "Jinzo" is on the owner's field, all Traps, and their effects on the field, cannot be activated. Also, all Trap effect on the field are negated. This Deck does not have any Traps, so the effect of "Jinzo" will not affected this Deck at all. "Jinzo" isn't' the only "Jinzo" card in this Deck, as there is "Jinzo - Lord" and "Jinzo - Returner". "Lord" is a another form of "Jinzo", and its effect is the same as "Jinzo", but it has another effect which is to destroy all face-up Traps on the field and inflict 300 damage to the opponent for each. "Returner" can attack directly, and when it is sent to the Graveyard, it can Special Summon "Jinzo" from the owner's Graveyard, but it is destroyed during the owner's End Phase. If "Jinzo" or any other monster on the owner's field was destroyed by a card effect and sent to the Graveyard, then "Meklord Emperor Wisel" from the owner's hand can Special Summon itself due to its own card effect, and "Wisel" can negate the activation of the opponent's Spell once and destroy it. This Deck relies on the many cards that can send "Returner" along with "Jinzo" to the Graveyard, so the effect of "Returner" can revive "Jinzo" from the owner's Graveyard onto the field, and then if "Lord" is in the hand, it can Special Summon itself by sending the revived "Jinzo" to the Graveyard. The cards that have the effect to send a card to the Graveyard are "Armageddon Knight", "Card Trooper", "Dark Grepher", and "Foolish Burial".
