Jump Victory Carnival 2019: Playmaker vs. Varis - Second Scripted Duel
Playmaker vs. Varis - Second Scripted Duel was the second scripted Duel that took place during the Jump Victory Carnival 2019. Shouya Ishige, Shunsuke Takeuchi, and Subaru Kimura reprised their roles as Playmaker, Varis, and Cal Kolter respectively. Cal Kolter narrated the duel. A previous scripted Duel between the same characters took place earlier at the same event.

This duel is conducted as a Master Duel.
Turn 1: Playmaker
Playmaker Normal Summons "Widget Kid" (1500/900). He activates the effect of "Widget Kid" as it was Normal or Special Summoned, allowing him to Special Summon 1 Cyberse monster from his hand in Defense Position. Playmaker Special Summons "Lady Debug" (1700/1400) from his hand in Defense Position with the effect of "Widget Kid". As Playmaker would use a Cyberse monster he controls as Link Material for a "Code Talker" monster, he can also use "Code Generator" in his hand as a material. Playmaker sets "Widget Kid" and "Lady Debug" on his field and "Code Generator" in his hand (3 monsters) in the Link Arrows to Link Summon "Powercode Talker" (2300/←→↙) to the Extra Monster Zone on his right-hand side.
Turn 2: Varis
Varis activates the Field Spell "Boot Sector Launch" and activates its second effect, allowing him to Special Summon 2 "Rokket" monsters from his hand in Defense Position. He Special Summons "Anesthrokket Dragon" (0/2200) and "Autorokket Dragon" (1600/1000) in Defense Position from his hand with the effect of "Boot Sector Launch". Due to the first effect of "Boot Sector Launch", all "Rokket" monsters on the field gain 300 ATK/DEF ("Anesthrokket Dragon": 0/2200 → 300/2500 ATK/DEF, "Autorokket Dragon": 1600/1000 → 1900/1300 ATK/DEF). Varis Normal Summons "Rokket Tracer" (1600/1000). Due to the first effect of "Boot Sector Launch", all "Rokket" monsters on the field gain 300 ATK/DEF ("Rokket Tracer": 1600/1000 → 1900/1300 ATK/DEF). Varis activates the effect of "Rokket Tracer" to target 1 face-up card he controls and destroy it, and if he does, he Special Summons 1 "Rokket" monster from his Deck, except "Rokket Tracer", also Varis cannot Special Summon monsters from the Extra Deck for the rest of this turn, except DARK monsters. Varis targets and destroys "Anesthrokket Dragon" and Special Summons "Shelrokket Dragon" (1100/2000) in Defense Position from his Deck with the effect of "Rokket Tracer". Due to the first effect of "Boot Sector Launch", all "Rokket" monsters on the field gain 300 ATK/DEF ("Shelrokket Dragon": 1100/2000 → 1400/2300 ATK/DEF). As Varis controls a "Rokket" monster, he Special Summons "Absorouter Dragon" (1200/2800) in Defense Position from his hand by its own effect. Varis sets "Autorokket Dragon", "Shelrokket Dragon", "Rokket Tracer", and "Absorouter Dragon" (2+ Effect Monsters) in the Link Arrows to Link Summon "Topologic Zeroboros" (3000/↖↗↙↘) to the Extra Monster Zone on his right-hand side. As "Absorouter Dragon" was sent to his GY, Varis can add 1 "Rokket" monster from his Deck to his hand. He adds "Magnarokket Dragon" from his Deck to his hand with the effect of "Absorouter Dragon".

During the End Phase, as "Anesthrokket Dragon" is in the GY because it was destroyed on the field by battle or card effect and sent there this turn, Varis can activate its effect to Special Summon 1 "Rokket" monster from his Deck, except "Anesthrokket Dragon". Varis Special Summons "Silverrokket Dragon" (1900/100) in Defense Position from his Deck with the effect of "Anesthrokket Dragon". Due to the first effect of "Boot Sector Launch", all "Rokket" monsters on the field gain 300 ATK/DEF ("Silverrokket Dragon": 1900/100 → 2200/400 ATK/DEF).
Turn 3: Playmaker
Playmaker activates the Normal Spell "Raigeki" to destroy all monsters Varis controls. "Topologic Zeroboros" and "Silverrokket Dragon" are destroyed by the effect of "Raigeki". As Playmaker controls no monsters, he Special Summons "Linkslayer" (2000/600) in Attack Position from his hand with its own effect. Playmaker Normal Summons "Draconnet" (1400/1200), and activates its effect as it was Normal Summoned, allowing him to Special Summon a Level 2 or lower Normal Monster from his hand or Deck in Defense Position. Playmaker Special Summons "Bitron" (200/2000) from his Deck in Defense Position with the effect of "Draconnet". Playmaker sets "Bitron" (1 Normal Monster) in the Link Arrows to Link Summon "Link Spider" (1000/↓) to the Extra Monster Zone on his right-hand side. Playmaker sets "Link Spider", "Linkslayer", and "Draconnet" (2+ Effect Monsters) in the Link Arrows to Link Summon "Decode Talker Extended" (2300/↑↙↘) to the Extra Monster Zone on his right-hand side. Playmaker activates the Normal Spell "Monster Reborn" to target and Special Summon 1 monster from either player's GY. He Special Summons "Powercode Talker" (2300/←→↙) to the zone the bottom-left Link Arrow of "Decode Talker Extended" points to from his GY with the effect of "Monster Reborn". By its own effect, "Decode Talker Extended" gains 500 ATK for each monster it points to ("Decode Talker Extended": 2300 → 2800 ATK).
"Powercode Talker" attacks Varis directly. As Playmaker's monster declared an attack, Varis activates the effect of "Checksum Dragon" in his hand, allowing him to Special Summon it, then gain LP equal to half of its DEF. Varis Special Summons "Checksum Dragon" (400/2400) in Attack Position from his hand and gains 1200 LP (Varis: 4000 → 5200 LP) with its effect. A replay occurs, and "Powercode Talker" attacks "Checksum Dragon". Due to its own effect, "Checksum Dragon" cannot be destroyed by battle while it is in Attack Position (Varis: 5200 → 3300 LP). "Decode Talker Extended" attacks "Checksum Dragon". Due to its own effect, "Checksum Dragon" cannot be destroyed by battle while it is in Attack Position (Varis: 3300 → 900 LP).

Turn 4: Varis
Varis sets "Exploderokket Dragon" and "Checksum Dragon" (2 Dragon monsters, including a "Rokket" monster) in the Link Arrows to Link Summon "Quadborrel Dragon" (1000/←↓) to the Extra Monster Zone on his right-hand side. Varis activates the effect of "Quadborrel Dragon", to discard 1 card, and then target 1 face-up monster on the field. Varis cannot Special Summon Link-2 or lower monsters from the Extra Deck for the rest of the turn, and the targeted monster is destroyed, then, if it was a Link Monster, Varis can Special Summon any number of "Rokket" monsters with different names, from his hand or GY, up to its Link Rating. Varis discards "Magnarokket Dragon", the targets "Decode Talker Extended" with the effect of "Quadborrel Dragon". "Decode Talker Extended" is destroyed, and because is was a Link-3 Link Monster, Varis can Special Summon up to 3 "Rokket" monsters. Varis Special Summons "Exploderokket Dragon" (2000/2000), "Silverrokket Dragon" (1900/100), and Magnarokket Dragon" (1800/1200), all in Attack Position, from his GY. Due to the first effect of "Boot Sector Launch", all "Rokket" monsters on the field gain 300 ATK/DEF ("Exploderokket Dragon": 2000/2000 → 2300/2300 ATK/DEF, "Silverrokket Dragon": 1900/100 → 2200/400 ATK/DEF, "Magnarokket Dragon": 1800/1200 → 2100/1500 ATK/DEF). Varis activates the Quick-Play Spell "Rapid Trigger", allowing him to Fusion Summon 1 Fusion Monster from his Extra Deck, by destroying Fusion Materials listed on it from his field, but it can only attack monsters Special Summoned from the Extra Deck, also it is unaffected by activated effects from any other monster Special Summoned from the Extra Deck. Varis destroys "Silverrokket Dragon" and "Magnarokket Dragon" with the effect of "Rapid Trigger" and uses them as Fusion Materials to Fusion Summon "Borreload Furious Dragon" (3000/2500) in Attack Position to the zone the bottom Link Arrow of "Quadborrel Dragon" points to. Varis activates the effect of "Borreload Furious Dragon" to target 1 monster he controls and 1 card Playmaker controls, and destroy them. He targets "Borreload Furious Dragon" on his field and "Powercode Talker" on Playmaker's field, and destroys both cards with the former's effect. Varis activates the other effect of "Borreload Furious Dragon" to banish it from his GY, then target 1 DARK Link Monster in his GY and Special Summon it, but it cannot activate its effects this turn. With the effect of "Borreload Furious Dragon", Varis banishes it from his GY and targets and Special Summons "Topologic Zeroboros" (3000/↖↗↙↘) from his GY to the zone the bottom Link Arrow of "Quadborrel Dragon" points to. With its own effect, "Topologic Zeroboros gains 200 ATK for each banished card ("Topologic Zeroboros": 3000 → 3200 ATK).
"Exploderokket Dragon" attacks Playmaker directly (Playmaker: 3300 → 1000 LP). "Topologic Zeroboros" attacks Playmaker directly (Playmaker: 1000 → 0 LP).
