Konami Code
The Konami Code is a cheat code that appears in many Konami video games, including several Yu-Gi-Oh! ones. The "normal" version of the code is ↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → B A, though a number of variations have been used, especially for games released on one of the PlayStation consoles, which controllers lack A and B buttons.
In addition to the Konami Code, games frequently reference the goroawase reading of "Konami", "573"; for example, the price of the pack that the Konami Code unlocks might be 573 or 5730 DP.
Video games[edit]
- In Yu-Gi-Oh! 7 Trials to Glory: World Championship Tournament 2005, the code can be used to view the credits.
- In Yu-Gi-Oh! The Falsebound Kingdom, the code ↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → B A can be entered in an empty area of the field to get 573 gold.
- In Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Tag Force, the code ↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → × ○, when entered in the Card Shop, unlocks the Midday Constellation (Noon Star) pack, which costs 5730 DP.
- In Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Tag Force 2, the code ↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → × ○ can be entered to unlock the Midday Constellation pack.
- In Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Tag Force 3, the code ↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → × ○ can be entered while in the shop to unlock the Midday Constellation pack, which can be purchased for 573 DP each.
- In Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's Tag Force 5, the code ↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ L R L R □ △ unlocks the High Noon Constellation pack for purchase in the shop. If the player has given Rathie all five rare figures, the pack's price will be 573 DP, instead of its normal 1146 DP.
- In Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's Tag Force 6, the code ↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → L R, when entered in the shop, unlocks the High Noon Constellation pack, which costs 573 DP.
- In Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's Duel Transer, the code ↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → 2 1 can be entered at different times to achieve different things:
- Entering it during character creation unlocks an additional design for each gender: one based on "Dark Magician" for the male avatar, and on "Dark Magician Girl" for the female avatar. Choosing one of these designs also gives one of two special Starter Decks, depending on the chosen avatar gender.
- Entering it while in Rathie's Shop and choosing whether to purchase Booster Packs or Deck Recipes will unlock the Konami Pack, which costs 573 DP.
- There was a function in the code of Yu-Gi-Oh! BAM to handle the Konami Code, that presumably would have unlocked "Gradius" if entered in the correct place in-game.
- In Yu-Gi-Oh! RUSH DUEL: Dawn of the Battle Royale!!, the code ↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → B A can be entered in different places in-game to achieve various things:
- Entering it in front of the Luke Club door in the Goha 7th Elementary Student Council Room after defeating Number 6 allows the Deck to be edited before completing the game.
- Entering it behind Otes in the basement where the minimap disappears awards the player with a random reward once per day.[1]
- In Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel, in the credits, inputting the code ↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → B A on the Enemy Controller will change the credit fonts and music into a retro-style font and music.
Similar codes[edit]
in Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's Tag Force 4, instead of the Konami Code, the code → → → → → □ □ □ □ □ □ □ Select Select Select (→ ×5, □ ×7, Select ×3) can be entered in the Card Shop to unlock the High Noon Constellation pack. If the player has given Rathie all five rare figures, the pack's price will be 573 DP, instead of its normal 1146 DP.
Anime and manga[edit]
The second effect of the anime and manga versions of "Enemy Controller" is a possible nod to the Konami Code, although the button combination is significantly shortened (←, →, A, B to Tribute an opponent's monster).
In Yu-Gi-Oh! GO RUSH!! episode Two Galaxies", 89: "Energy Controller, a Rush Duel parody of "Enemy Controller" is played, and the button combination said by Energy Copyko is the Konami Code.
