Playmaker and Ghost Gal's Duel

Playmaker and Ghost Gal's Duel is the sixth Duel of the Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS anime, conducted between Playmaker and Ghost Gal.

Prior events[edit]

After she witnessed the Duel between Playmaker and Revolver, Ghost Gal became interested in the Incident involving Playmaker that happened ten years previously. Seeking to uncover its mystery, Ghost Gal challenged Playmaker to a Duel, promising to give up a program that would allow Playmaker to infiltrate SOL Technologies' data bank, but requesting that he bet Ai in the Duel in return. Playmaker accepted her challenge, despite Ai's protests.

The Duel[edit]

Turn 1: Ghost Gal
Ghost Gal Normal Summons "Altergeist Marionetter" (1600/1700). As "Marionetter" was Normal Summoned, Ghost Gal activates its effect, Setting an "Altergeist" Trap directly from her Deck to her Spell & Trap Zone. She Sets "Altergeist Protocol". Ghost Gal Sets a card.

Turn 2: Playmaker
Playmaker Normal Summons "Cyberse Wizard" (1800/800). "Cyberse Wizard" attacks "Marionetter". As Playmaker's monster declared an attack while Ghost Gal controls an "Altergeist" card, she activates the effect of "Altergeist Kunquery" in her hand, Special Summoning it, then negating that attack. She Special Summons it (0/2400) in Defense Position and the attack of "Cyberse Wizard" is negated. As "Kunquery" was Special Summoned, Ghost Gal activates its effect, targeting a face-up card Playmaker controls and negating the effects of that card while it and "Kunquery" are face-up on the field. She targets and negates the effects of "Cyberse Wizard".

Turn 3: Ghost Gal
Ghost Gal Normal Summons "Marionetter" (1600/1700). As "Marionetter" was Normal Summoned, Ghost Gal activates its effect, Setting an "Altergeist" Trap directly from her Deck to her Spell & Trap Zone. She Sets "Altergeist Camouflage". Ghost Gal sets two copies of "Marionetter" and "Kunquery" in the Link Arrows to Link Summon "Altergeist Primebanshee" (2100/↓↘→) to the Extra Monster Zone. Ghost Gal activates her face-down Trap "Altergeist Manifestation", targeting an "Altergeist" monster in her GY and Special Summoning it in Attack Position, then equipping it with "Manifestation". She targets and Special Summons "Marionetter" (1600/1700). Ghost Gal activates her face-down Continuous Trap "Altergeist Protocol". Ghost Gal activates the effect of "Marionetter", targeting an "Altergeist" card she controls and an "Altergeist" monster in her GY and sending that card she controls to the GY, Special Summoning that other monster from her GY. She targets "Protocol" and "Marionetter" in her GY, Special Summoning "Marionetter" (1600/170). During the Main Phase, Ghost Gal activates the effect of "Primebanshee", Tributing one other "Altergeist" monster to Special Summon an "Altergeist" monster from her Deck to her zone "Primebanshee" points to. She Tributes the "Marionetter" equipped with "Manifestation" and Special Summons "Altergeist Meluseek" (500/300) to the zone the bottom-center Link Arrow of "Primebanshee" points to. Ghost Gal Sets a card.

The effect of "Meluseek" allows it to attack directly. "Meluseek" attacks Playmaker directly (Playmaker: 4000 → 3500 LP). As "Meluseek" inflicted battle damage to Playmaker, Ghost Gal activates its effect, targeting a card Playmaker controls and sending it to the GY. She targets and sends "Cyberse Wizard". "Marionetter" attacks Playmaker directly (Playmaker: 3500 → 1900 LP). "Primebanshee" attacks Playmaker directly. As Ghost Gal's monster declared a direct attack, Playmaker activates the effect of "Lockout Gardna" in his hand, Special Summoning it (1000/1000) in Attack Position, and it cannot be destroyed by battle this turn. A replay occurs and Ghost Gal chooses to cancel the attack.

Turn 4: Playmaker
Playmaker draws "Balancer Lord". Ghost Gal activates her face-down Continuous Trap "Protocol". During the Main Phase, Ghost Gal activates the effect of "Primebanshee", Tributing one other "Altergeist" monster to Special Summon an "Altergeist" monster from her Deck to her zone "Primebanshee" points to. She Tributes "Meluseek" and Special Summons "Altergeist Silquitous" (800/1500) in Defense Position to the zone the bottom-center Link Arrow of "Primebanshee" points to. As "Meluseek" was sent from the field to the GY, Ghost Gal activates its effect, adding a different "Altergeist" monster from her Deck to her hand. She adds "Kunquery". As only Ghost Gal controls a monster in the Extra Monster Zone, Playmaker Special Summons "Backlinker" (1600/0) from his hand by its own effect. Playmaker activates the effect of "Backlinker", Tributing it to send all monsters in the Extra Monster Zones to the GY. "Backlinker" is Tributed, but as Playmaker activated a monster effect, Ghost Gal activates the effect of "Protocol", sending one other face-up "Altergeist" card she controls to the GY to negate the activation, then destroy it. She sends "Marionetter" and negates the activation of the effect of "Backlinker". As activation of the effect of Playmaker's Cyberse monster is negated by Ghost Gal's card effect, Playmaker activates the effect of "Striping Partner" in his hand, Special Summoning it (1200/1600). As "Striping Partner" was Special Summoned, Playmaker activates its effect, targeting a Level 4 or lower Cyberse monster in his GY and Special Summoning it. He targets the Level 3 "Backlinker", but Ghost Gal activates the effect of "Silquitous", returning one other "Altergeist" card she controls to the hand, then targeting a card Playmaker controls to return it to the hand. She returns "Protocol" and targets "Striping Partner", but as an effect of a monster Ghost Gal controls is activated that targets exactly one Cyberse monster Playmaker controls, he activates the effect of "Lockout Gardna", negating the effects of both that Cyberse monster he controls and Ghost Gal's monster until the end of this turn. The effects of both "Silquitous" and "Striping Partner" are negated.

Playmaker sets "Lockout Gardna" and "Striping Partner" in the Link Arrows to Link Summon "Underclock Taker" (1000/←↓) to the Extra Monster Zone. Playmaker Normal Summons "Balancer Lord" (1700/1200) to the zone the bottom-center Link Arrow of "Underclock Taker" points to. Playmaker activates the effect of "Underclock Taker", targeting a face-up monster it points to and a face-up monster Ghost Gal controls and decreasing the ATK of Ghost Gal's monster equal to the ATK of the monster "Underclock Taker" points to until the end of this turn. He targets "Balancer Lord" and "Primebanshee", but Ghost Gal activates her face-down Trap "Altergeist Camouflage", targeting an "Altergeist" monster she controls and equipping "Camouflage" to it. The effect of "Camouflage" negates Playmaker's monster effect that activates by targeting the equipped "Primebanshee". The effect of "Underclock Taker" is negated. The effect of "Camouflage" prevents Playmaker from targeting the equipped "Primebanshee" for attacks, but it does not prevent Playmaker from attacking directly. Playmaker activates the effect of "Balancer Lord", paying 1000 LP to allow him to Normal Summon a Cyberse monster during his Main Phase this turn, in addition to his Normal Summon/Set (Playmaker: 1900 → 900 LP). Ghost Gal activates her Skill "Secret Cure", excavating cards from the top of her Deck until she excavates a Monster Card. That monster is added to her hand, and both players gain LP equal to that monster's ATK. Any other excavated cards are sent to the GY. She excavates "Camouflage" and sends it to the GY, then excavates "Meluseek" (500/300) and adds it to her hand (Playmaker: 900 → 1400 LP, Ghost Gal: 4000 → 4500 LP). Playmaker Normal Summons "Scan Doll" (100/1600). As "Scan Doll" was Normal Summoned, Playmaker activates its effect, paying 1000 LP, then targeting a Trap in Ghost Gal's GY to activate it on Ghost Gal's field (Playmaker: 1400 → 400 LP). He targets "Camouflage" and activates it on Ghost Gal's field, targeting an "Altergeist" monster Ghost Gal controls and equipping "Camouflage" to it. He targets "Silquitous".

At this point, Playmaker enters the Data Storm. As Playmaker's LP is 1000 or less, he activates his Skill "Storm Access", accessing a Cyberse Link Monster at random from a nearby Data Storm and adding it to his Extra Deck. He obtains "Excode Talker" and adds it to his Extra Deck.

Playmaker sets "Balancer Lord" and the Link-2 "Underclock Taker" in the Link Arrows to Link Summon "Excode Talker" (2300/←↑→) to the Extra Monster Zone. As "Excode Talker" was Link Summoned, Playmaker activates its effect, choosing unused Main Monster Zones equal to the number of monsters currently in the Extra Monster Zones and preventing those zones from being used while "Excode Talker" is face-up on the field. "Primebanshee" and "Excode Talker" are in the Extra Monster Zones, so Playmaker chooses and prevents the use of Ghost Gal's two remaining Main Monster Zones. Playmaker activates the effect of "Scan Doll", Tributing it, then targeting a monster he controls to allow it to make a second attack during each Battle Phase this turn. He targets "Excode Talker". "Excode Talker" attacks Ghost Gal directly twice (Ghost Gal: 4500 → 2200 → 0 LP).

Aftermath[edit]

During the Duel, Playmaker obtained "Excode Talker" using Storm Access, allowing him to use it again in future Duels. As he won the Duel, Playmaker obtained the backdoor program from Ghost Gal as promised, allowing him to infiltrate SOL Technologies' data bank.
