Playmaker and Spectre's Duel | |
Playmaker and Specter's Duel is the sixteenth Duel of the Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS anime, conducted between Playmaker and Specter.
Prior events[edit]
After having defeated Blue Angel, Specter disappears from the site of their Duel, only to reappear moments later in Playmaker's path. Furthermore, as Zaizen was captured in a prison of vines, Specter was able to use him as insurance to prevent Playmaker from defeating him.
The Duel[edit]
Turn 1: Specter
Specter Normal Summons "Sunseed Genius Loci" (0/600). He uses "Genius Loci" to Link Summon "Sunavalon Dryas" (0/↓) to the Extra Monster Zone. Specter Sets a card.
Turn 2: Playmaker
Playmaker activates the effect of "Bitrooper" in his hand, sending a Level 2 or lower monster from his hand to the GY to Special Summon it. He sends the Level 1 "Latency" from his hand to the GY and Special Summons "Bitrooper" (1500/2000) in Attack Position. Playmaker uses "Bitrooper" to Link Summon "Link Disciple" (500/↓) to the Extra Monster Zone. He then Special Summons "Link Infra-Flier" (0/1800) in Attack Position to the zone the bottom-center Link Arrow of "Link Disciple" points to, via its own effect. Playmaker uses "Link Infra-Flier" to Link Summon "Link Devotee" (500/↑) to the zone the bottom-center Link Arrow of "Link Disciple" points to, but since it was Special Summoned, Playmaker cannot Link Summon Link-3 or higher Link Monsters for the rest of the turn. He then activates the effect of "Link Disciple", allowing him to Tribute a monster "Link Disciple" points to in order to draw a card, then place a card in his hand to the bottom of his Deck. As "Link Devotee" was Tributed, Playmaker activates its effect, letting him Special Summon two "Link Tokens" (0/0 each) in Defense Position. Playmaker Normal Summons "Cyberse Gadget" (1400/300). As it was Normal Summoned, Playmaker activates its effect, allowing him to Special Summon a Level 2 or lower monster from his GY in Defense Position with its effects negated. He Special Summons "Latency" (0/0) in Defense Position. Playmaker uses "Latency" and "Cyberse Gadget" to Link Summon "Binary Sorceress" (1600/←→) to the zone the bottom-center Link Arrow of "Link Disciple" points to. As it was sent from the field to the GY, Playmaker activates the effect of "Cyberse Gadget", Special Summoning a "Gadget Token" (0/0) in Defense Position. He then uses the "Gadget Token" and "Link Disciple" to Link Summon "Multi Sledgehammer" (1000/↓→) to the zone the middle-left Link Arrow of "Binary Sorceress" points to. He then uses two "Link Tokens" to Link Summon "Binary Blader" (1800/←→) to the zone the middle-right Link Arrow of "Binary Sorceress" points to.
"Binary Sorceress" attacks "Dryas". The effect of "Dryas" prevents it from being attacked, but does not prevent direct attacks, so "Binary Sorceress" attacks directly (Specter: 4000 → 2400 LP). As he took battle or effect damage, Specter activates the effect of "Dryas", letting him Special Summon a "Sunvine" Link Monster from his Extra Deck to a zone "Dryas" points to and gain LP equal to the damage he took. Specter Special Summons "Sunvine Gardna" (600/↑) (Specter: 2400 → 4000 LP). As a Cyberse Link Monster battled, Playmaker activates the effect of "Multi Sledgehammer", giving it a Hammer Counter ("Multi Sledgehammer": 0 → 1 Hammer Counter). As it was co-linked to two monsters, Playmaker activates the effect of "Binary Sorceress" to halve the ATK of a monster he controls, then increasing the ATK of another monster he controls by the same value until the End Phase. He halves the ATK of "Binary Sorceress" and increases the ATK of "Binary Blader" ("Binary Sorceress": 1600 → 800 ATK, "Binary Blader": 1800 → 2600 ATK). "Binary Blader" attacks "Gardna". As "Binary Blader" battled, Playmaker activates its effect, making the opponent's monster unable to be destroyed by that battle, also it can make a second attack. Specter activates the effect of "Gardna" to reduce the battle damage he would take by 800 times the Link Rating of a "Sunavalon" Link Monster that points to it, in this case, one. The attack continues, but "Gardna" is not destroyed (Specter: 4000 → 2800 LP). As a monster co-linked to "Binary Sorceress" inflicted battle damage, Playmaker activates its effect, gaining LP equal to the damage dealt (Playmaker: 4000 → 5200 LP) and as a Cyberse Link Monster battled, Playmaker activates the effect of "Multi Sledgehammer" ("Multi Sledgehammer": 1 → 2 Hammer Counter). As Specter took battle damage, he activates his face-down Continuous Trap Card "Sunavalon Glorious Growth", Special Summoning a "Sunvine Token" (0/0), then letting him Link Summon using it and monsters he controls as Link Material, then Specter gains LP equal to the damage taken. Specter uses the "Sunvine Token", "Gardna" and "Dryas" to Link Summon "Sunavalon Dryanome" (0/↙↓↘) to the Extra Monster Zone, and gains LP (Specter: 2800 → 4000 LP). As Specter gained LP, the effect of "Glorious Growth" activates, inflicting that amount as damage to Playmaker (Playmaker: 5200 → 4000 LP).
"Binary Blader" attacks directly, with the effects of "Binary Sorceress" and "Multi Sledgehammer" following after (Specter: 4000 → 1400 LP; Playmaker: 4000 → 6600 LP; "Multi Sledgehammer": 2 → 3 Hammer Counter). As Specter took battle damage, he activates the effect of "Dryanome", which allows him to Special Summon a "Sunvine" Link Monster from his Extra Deck to a zone it points to, then he gains LP equal to the damage he took. Specter Special Summons "Gardna" (600/↑) to the zone the bottom-center Link Arrow of "Dryanome" points to, and gains LP (Specter: 1400 → 4000 LP). As Specter gained LP, he activates the effect of "Glorious Growth", inflicting that amount as damage to Playmaker (Playmaker: 6600 → 4000 LP).
As "Multi Sledgehammer" is co-linked to a Cyberse monster, it can attack directly. "Multi Sledgehammer" attacks directly. As "Multi Sledgehammer" attacked, Playmaker activates its effect, removing all Hammer Counters from "Multi Sledgehammer" to increase its ATK by 1000 for each Hammer Counter removed ("Multi Sledgehammer": 3 → 0 Hammer Counter; 1000 → 4000 ATK) until the End Phase. As Playmaker's monster attacked directly, Specter activates the effect of "Glorious Growth" to negate the attack then redirect that attack to a "Sunvine" monster he controls. He redirects the attack to "Gardna", with the effect of "Gardna" reducing the battle damage he would take by 800 times the Link Rating of a "Sunavalon" Link Monster that points to it, in this case, three. "Gardna" is destroyed, with the effect of "Binary Sorceress" following after (Specter: 4000 → 3000 LP; Playmaker: 4000 → 5000 LP). Specter activates the effects of "Dryanome" and "Glorious Growth" in sequence, Special Summoning "Gardna" (600/↑) to the zone the bottom-left Link Arrow of "Dryanome" points to (Specter: 3000 → 4000 LP; Playmaker: 5000 → 4000 LP). As "Gardna" was destroyed and sent to the GY, Specter activates its effect to end the Battle Phase. Playmaker Sets a card.
Turn 3: Specter
Specter sends a card from his hand to the GY to activate the Continuous Spell Card "Sunvine Shrine". Once per turn, Specter can Special Summon a Level 4 or lower Plant Normal Monster from his GY. He Special Summons "Genius Loci" (0/600) from his GY. Specter uses "Genius Loci" to Link Summon "Sunvine Thrasher" (800/↓) to the zone the bottom-right Link Arrow of "Dryanome" points to. Specter activates the effect of "Thrasher", which lets him increase its ATK by 800 times the Link Rating of a "Sunavalon" Link Monster that points to it, in this case three ("Thrasher": 800 → 3200 ATK).
"Thrasher" attacks "Binary Blader". Playmaker activates the effect of "Binary Sorceress" to halve the ATK of "Multi Sledgehammer" and increase the ATK of "Binary Blader" by the lost ATK ("Multi Sledgehammer": 1000 → 500 ATK; "Binary Blader": 1800 → 2300 ATK). "Thrasher" destroys "Binary Blader" (Playmaker: 4000 → 3100 LP). As "Thrasher" destroyed a monster by battle, Specter activates its effect, Special Summoning that monster to a zone a "Sunavalon" Link Monster points to. He Special Summons "Binary Blader" (1800/←→) to the zone the bottom-center Link Arrow of "Dryanome" points to. "Binary Blader" attacks and destroys "Binary Sorceress" (Playmaker: 3100 → 2900 LP).
Specter Normal Summons "Genius Loci" (0/600). Specter uses "Genius Loci" and "Gardna" to Link Summon "Sunavalon Daphne" (0/←→) to the zone the bottom-left Link Arrow of "Dryanome" points to. Specter Tributes "Binary Blader" to activate the effect of "Daphne", returning both copies of "Gardna" in his GY to his Extra Deck. Specter Sets a card.
Turn 4: Playmaker
Specter activates the Continuous Trap Card "Sunavalon Force". While "Force" is on the field, "Sunavalon" monsters cannot be targeted by Playmaker's card effects. Playmaker Normal Summons "Draconnet". As "Draconnet" was Normal Summoned, Playmaker activates its effect, Special Summoning a Level 2 or lower Normal Monster from his hand or Deck in Defense Position. He Special Summons "Bitron" (200/2000). Playmaker uses "Bitron" to Link Summon "Link Spider" (1000/↓) to the Extra Monster Zone. Playmaker activates the effect of "Link Spider", Special Summoning a Level 4 or lower Normal Monster from his hand to a zone it points to. He Special Summons "Digitron" (1500/0) to the zone the bottom-center Link Arrow of "Link Spider" points to. Playmaker uses "Link Spider" and "Draconnet" to Link Summon "Underclock Taker" (1000/←↓) to the Extra Monster Zone. Playmaker uses "Digitron" and the Link-2 "Multi Sledgehammer" to Link Summon "Excode Talker" (2300/←↑→) to the zone the bottom-center Link Arrow of "Underclock Taker" points to. Monsters "Excode Talker" points to gain 500 ATK, also they cannot be destroyed by card effects ("Underclock Taker": 1000 → 1500 ATK). As "Excode Talker" was Link Summoned, Playmaker activates its effect, which allows him to prevent the use of a number of Main Monster Zones up to the number of cards in the Extra Monster Zones while "Excode Talker" is on the field. As two monsters are in the Extra Monster Zones, Playmaker prevents the use of both zones the middle-left and middle-right Link Arrows of "Daphne" point to. Playmaker activates the effect of "Underclock Taker" to reduce the ATK of Specter's monster by the ATK of a monster it points to. Playmaker reduces the ATK of "Thrasher" by the ATK of "Excode Talker" ("Thrasher": 3200 → 900 ATK). Specter reveals that Akira Zaizen has been captured and will be infected with a computer virus if Specter's LP reduces, so Playmaker does not attack. During the End Phase, the effect of "Underclock Taker" expires ("Thrasher": 900 → 3200 ATK).
Turn 5: Specter
"Thrasher" attacks and destroys "Underclock Taker" (Playmaker: 2900 → 1200 LP). As Playmaker's monster was destroyed by battle, Specter activates the effect of "Force", inflicting 100 damage to Playmaker times the Link Rating of the Link Monster with the highest Link Rating on the field, in this case, three (Playmaker: 1200 → 900 LP). Specter Sets a card.

Turn 7: Specter
"Thrasher" attacks "Excode Talker". Playmaker activates his face-down Continuous Trap Card "Overload Anchor". As Specter's monster attacked while Playmaker controls a Link Monster and no other monsters, he activates the effect of "Overload Anchor", to make that Link Monster unable to be destroyed by that battle, halve the battle damage he would have taken from that battle, and end the Battle Phase. The attack continues, but "Excode Talker" is not destroyed (Playmaker: 900 → 450 LP).
Turn 8: Playmaker
Playmaker draws the Continuous Spell Card "Link Processing Failure" and subsequently activates it by choosing a Link Monster he controls, and preventing Specter's monsters with a Link Rating less than or equal to that monster's Link Rating from attacking while "Link Processing Failure" is on the field. During the second Standby Phase after activation, "Link Processing Failure" is destroyed. Playmaker chooses the Link-3 "Excode Talker", and prevents "Thrasher", "Dryanome" and "Daphne" from attacking.
Turn 9: Specter
Specter uses "Thrasher" and the Link-3 "Dryanome" to Link Summon "Sunavalon Dryatrentiay" (0/↑↙↓↘) to the Extra Monster Zone. Specter activates the effect of "Dryatrentiay", Tributing a Plant Link Monster it points to, then destroying Spell/Trap Cards Playmaker controls up to the Link Rating of the Tributed monster, but monsters in Specter's Main Monster Zone cannot attack the turn this effect is activated. Specter Tributes the Link-2 "Daphne" and destroys "Overload Anchor" and "Link Processing Failure". Specter activates the effect of "Shrine" to Special Summon "Genius Loci" (0/600) from his GY. Specter uses "Genius Loci" to Link Summon "Thrasher" (800/↓) to the zone the bottom-right Link Arrow of "Dryatrentiay" points to. Specter activates the effect of "Thrasher", which lets him increase its ATK by 800 times the Link Rating of a "Sunavalon" Link Monster that points to it, in this case four ("Thrasher": 800 → 4000 ATK). Specter activates his face-down Continuous Trap Card "Sunavalon Bloom" to negate the effects of Playmaker's monsters and target a Link-4 or higher Plant Link Monster he controls. The effect of "Excode Talker" is negated and he targets "Dryatrentiay". When "Dryatrentiay" battles, it will gain ATK equal to all monsters it points to. "Dryatrentiay" attacks "Excode Talker". As "Dryatrentiay" is battling, the effect of "Bloom" increases its ATK by an amount equal to the combined ATK of all monsters it points to ("Dryatrentiay": 0 → 4000 ATK). As a Link Monster Playmaker controls is battling a monster that has a Link Rating higher than his monster's, he activates his face-down "Link Surge Counter", banishing 2 Spell/Trap Cards from his field or GY to make the ATK of that monster he controls become equal to the ATK of the opponent's monster it is battling. Playmaker banishes "Overload Anchor" and "Link Processing Failure" from his GY to make the ATK of "Excode Talker" become equal to that of "Dryatrentiay" ("Excode Talker": 2300 → 4000 ATK). The attack continues and both monsters are destroyed. As Playmaker's monster was destroyed by battle, Specter activates the effect of "Force", inflicting 100 damage to Playmaker times the Link Rating of the Link Monster with the highest Link Rating on the field, in this case four (Playmaker: 450 → 50 LP).
As "Dryatrentiay" left the field, "Bloom" is destroyed by its own effect. As a "Sunavalon" monster Specter controls is destroyed, "Sunavalon Glorious Growth" is destroyed by its own effect. As Specter controls no "Sunavalon" monsters, "Shrine" is destroyed by its own effect. As there are no "Sunavalon" monsters on the field, "Force" is destroyed by its own effect. As there is no "Sunavalon" monster that points to "Thrasher", it is destroyed by its own effect. Specter activates the Continuous Spell Card "Sunavalon Cursed Reborn", to Special Summon a "Sunavalon" monster from his GY with its effects negated and increasing its ATK by 1000 times its Link Rating. He Special Summons "Dryatrentiay" (0/↑↙↓↘) ("Dryatrentiay": 0 → 4000 ATK).
Turn 10: Playmaker
Playmaker draws "ROM Cloudia" and subsequently Normal Summons it (1800/0). As "ROM Cloudia" was Normal Summoned, Playmaker activates its effect to add a Cyberse monster from his GY to his hand. He adds "Latency" to his hand. As "Latency" was added from the GY to Playmaker's hand, he activates its effect, Special Summoning it (0/0). Playmaker uses "Latency" to Link Summon "Talkback Lancer" (1200/↓) to the Extra Monster Zone. As "Latency" was Special Summoned by its effect and was subsequently used for a Link Summon, Playmaker activates its effect to draw a card. Playmaker activates the effect of "Talkback Lancer", Tributing a Cyberse monster to Special Summon a "code Talker" monster from his GY to a zone "Talkback Lancer" points to. He Tributes "ROM Cloudia" to Special Summon "Excode Talker" to the zone the bottom-center Link Arrow of "Talkback Lancer" points to. Monsters "Excode Talker" point to gain 500 ATK and cannot be destroyed by card effects ("Talkback Lancer": 1200 → 1700 ATK). Playmaker activates the Spell Card "Link Atrocity" to Tribute a Link Monster he controls to increase the ATK of another Link Monster he controls by the Tributed monster's ATK. If that Link Monster he controls battles Specter's Link Monster, then Specter's Link Monster loses 400 ATK for each Link Monster in the GYs. He Tributes "Talkback Lancer" to increase the ATK of "Excode Talker" ("Excode Talker": 2300 → 4000 ATK).
"Excode Talker" attacks "Dryatrentiay", with the effect of "Link Atrocity" decreasing the ATK of "Dryatrentiay" for each Link Monster in the GYs, in this case fourteen ("Dryatrentiay": 4000 → 0 ATK). "Dryatrentiay" is destroyed (Specter: 4000 → 0 LP).
Aftermath[edit]
During the Duel, the Tower of Hanoi started destroying the bridge on which the Duel was taking place. As a result, after the Duel, the bridge gave way under Playmaker's feet. Furthermore, in order to eliminate the doubt that lingers within Playmaker, and to prevent Specter from using him as insurance, Zaizen sacrificed himself to allow Playmaker to deliver the finishing blow.
