"Battleguard", known as "Barbarian" (バーバリアン Bābarian) in the Japanese version, is a series used by Joey Wheeler in the Yu-Gi-Oh! second series anime. Originally, one of the Battleguards belonged to Tristan Taylor but he gave it to Joey before his Duel with Rex Raptor and he used them to defeat Rex's "Serpent Night Dragon" but were then destroyed by "Red-Eyes B. Dragon".
To date, there are only two "Battleguard" monsters "Swamp Battleguard" and "Lava Battleguard". They both receive 500 ATK points from each other. A Duelist using them is recommended to use either "Ultimate Offering" or "Double Summon" to get them both out on the same turn.
