Typo?[edit]

  • Is there anything in the name that suggests that "Pentagramm" is the correct spelling? I was under the impression that this was just a typo on shriek that carried onto here, but I could be wrong. If there is no reason for the extra m, I think it should be renamed.--YamiWheeler (talkcontribs) 21:04, April 22, 2011 (UTC)
It's just added there to prevent something referring to religious or sin that seemed to be very important. Just like for "Dark Magician", his skin is white and his name is "Black Magician", it was renamed to "Dark Magician" to prevent him being "racism" for good reasons. --FredCat 11:05, July 2, 2011 (UTC)
  • But this is the Japanese name, not the TCG name. The OCG doesn't really censor cards like that, as evidenced by the original Curse of Hexagram.--YamiWheeler (talkcontribs) 11:09, July 2, 2011 (UTC)
You get the good reason, just like with "Exceed" crap, the whole translation should be misread this card's kanji... --FredCat 11:13, July 2, 2011 (UTC)
This really looks like a mis-spelling. Konami hasn't censored cards in the OCG, there is no reason to use "Pentagramm" over "Pentagram".--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 11:34, July 2, 2011 (UTC)
This is different than the "Exceed"/"Xyz" case. With "Exceed"/"Xyz" the Japanese name used katakana. Each katakana represents a syllable. i.e. a part of a word. エ = e, ク = ku, シ一 = shī, ズ = zu. Ekushī and zu can be the romaji equivalents of "xy" and "z". But eku, shī and īzu can also be the romaji equivalents of "ex", "cee" and "ed".
This name uses kanji, not katakana. Usually when you translate something from kanji to English, you look at the meaning of the word and find an English word with the same meaning. "五稜星" (goryōsei) is the Japanese word for "pentagram". "Pentagramm" isn't a proper word, so it can't mean that. -- Deltaneos (talk) 14:12, July 2, 2011 (UTC)
So "Penagramm" is just fanmade word? Or just misunderstand? --FredCat 14:19, July 2, 2011 (UTC)
I'd say it's just a typo. -- Deltaneos (talk) 14:23, July 2, 2011 (UTC)
Vote in favour to rename this to "Spell of Pentagram". I think in future, it might be an idea to stick to the above philosophy on Japanese names - Use what they mean, rather than 100% rely on the fanbase.--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 16:08, July 2, 2011 (UTC)
  • Yeah, I'm in favour of renaming it. I couldn't understand how a Japanese name that wasn't in katakana got translated to that.--YamiWheeler (talkcontribs) 20:09, July 3, 2011 (UTC)
