Activation/Self-Destruction[edit]

If I controlled a face-up Field Spell Card and tried to activate another one from my hand, would I have to "self-destruct" the one on the field before I allow my opponent to Chain to the activation? Let's say my opponent wants to Chain "Dark Bribe". I want to know if the Field Spell Card on the field would have to be destroyed, even if the negation occurred afterwards. I only ask this because if this is true, the article would need some slight re-wording. --UltimateKuriboh (talkcontribs) 19:16, March 23, 2013 (UTC)

You destroy your own field spell first.
If your opponent had the field spell, then you do not destroy the field spell.

Timing[edit]

When a field spell card is activated, and the opponent already has a field spell in play, is there field spell destroyed before or after the new one activates. I feel this needs to be clarified on this page. For example, the effect of "Malefic Red-Eyes B. Dragon" states "If there is no face-up Field Spell Card on the field, destroy this card." If the opponents card is destroyed before the new one activates then "Malefic Red-Eyes B. Dragon" would be destroyed. However, if the opponent's field spell is destroyed after the new one activates, then "Malefic Red-Eyes B. Dragon" would not be destroyed. Zombiedude347 (talkcontribs) 22:00, November 1, 2014 (UTC)

--MasterMarik (talkcontribs) 23:04, November 1, 2014 (UTC)The new rules allow for both players to control a Field Spell so unless a card says otherwise, you can have two Field Spells active at the same time without either one getting destroyed.

Sending to the Graveyard face-down or face-up in order to activate a new one?[edit]

Before, it was only possible to have a single Field Spell Card active between both players. You could however still Set a Field Spell Card and activate it later on. Since March 21st 2014 for the OCG and July 10th 2014 for the TCG a new rule is in effect, which allows both players to each have an active Field Spell Card. Before, when only one Field Spell Card could be active at a time, activating a new one would destroy the currently active Field Spell Card. Now however, you have to send your own Field Spell Card to the Graveyard in order to activate a new one.

Now I'm wondering, can I only send face-up Field Spell Cards to the Graveyard in order to activate (or Set) a new one, or could I also send a Set Field Spell Card to the Graveyard without first activating it? (Obviously it doesn't matter a lot, and in an actual Duel I would probably just activate a face-down Field Spell Card I want to get rid of anyway, in order to bluff my opponent in using a card like Mystical Space Typhoon, but I was just curious if you can send the face-down Field Spell Card to the Graveyard without first activating it.)
