Name[edit]

Considering her name is Choujyuu, wouldn't it be better as Winged Beast instead of Bird Beast? Bird Beast also sounds tacky and stilted and bad. -- NeoArkadia (talkcontribs) 12:01, December 23, 2012 (UTC)

The fact that it's Chojyuu is why its at Bird Beast, since that's what it translates to. We don't know that it would use the same translation as the Type. Of course, this whole argument is nil (and I hope it is) if "Winged Beast" is a valid translation of "ちょうじゅう", in which case I would urge you to move the article and remove the translation from the infobox at Winged Beast. I just happen to think literalism for literalism's sake is the worst idea in the world. Bird Beast is the literal translation. But that doesn't make it a good translation. - NeoArkadia (talkcontribs) 12:32, December 23, 2012 (UTC)
A lot of comes down to the "no speculation" policy. It helps us remove misinformation, but there are some casualties too, so to speak. However, a translation not being literal doesn't make it invalid, does it? Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 12:36, December 23, 2012 (UTC)
That and while Speculation to some degree is bad, I think keeping ultra-literal translations is a level for ridicule. :P That said, Winged Beast is, to me, a valid translation to draw from. That and Slyphine, the Cold Winged Beast sounds better too. -- NeoArkadia (talkcontribs) 12:40, December 23, 2012 (UTC)
That's fair. I do understand where you're coming from I agree that "Cold Bird Beast" sounds awkward. Ultimately, it's something I'd have to discuss with other users, though it is pretty clear our "no speculation" policy can use some work. I'll make a topic later today. I can't right now, I have to leave for work about five minutes ago. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 12:44, December 23, 2012 (UTC)
