Nightmare Cicada King?[edit]

should we rename this monster "Number 3: Nightmare Cicada King"? --Dragon146 (talkcontribs) 15:10, November 24, 2013 (UTC)

"Hell" is pretty inconsistently changed. "Nightmare" is sometimes used, as is "Infernal", as in "Chthonian". Point being, I'd prefer to leave it at "Hell" rather than pick one of those have a huge chance of guessing wrong. That said, if the card is confirmed for the OCG, we'll have to move it. Worth noting that Japanese cards say both "Jigoku" and "Hell" - and only cards that actually say "Hell" in Japanese become "Chthonian" in the US.--Ryusui (talkcontribs) 05:30, December 25, 2013 (UTC)

The Final Say[edit]

Number 3's Japanese name is Jigokusemiou Locust King. If you'll look at cards such as Tengaisei Dyson Sphere, Kaikouryuu Shark Drake, and Hakenkouchuu Master Key Beetle, you'll note a recurring pattern in the names of Numbers: a name in Japanese followed by a rough English equivalent. I see no reason to treat this card differently: its most likely English name will be Number 3: Locust King.

So what, then, of its status as a "Cicada" monster? The answer is simple - the archetype is misnamed. I'm well aware that locusts and cicadas are not the same thing, but tell that to the Japanese: the word semi can mean either a cicada or a locust. With this in mind, "Cicada" ought to - and should always have been - "Locust," for consistency's sake if not entomology's.--Ryusui (talkcontribs) 05:07, December 25, 2013 (UTC)
