Non-Official But Relevant Book(s)[edit]

Any opinions on adding Hoban's book in a section for unofficial books? Seems like a multi-time champion's book about the TCG itself would be of interest to people who stumble on the article. Anti-Mattering (talkcontribs) 07:16, 4 April 2022 (UTC)

The problem with adding unofficial books is where to draw the line on what gets included and what doesn't, and why. It's a lot simpler to just not allow them to be listed at all. ディノ千?!☎ Dinoguy1000 07:39, 4 April 2022 (UTC)
I don't know if it's really that complicated. We could say that would be a problem in theory, but in practice, how many books would people even be able to find to add? It doesn't seem like there's a bunch of people jonesing for the chance to slap up any random Amazon listing or fanfic swimming around the internet. I'd figure this book, specifically, is relevant to the TCG side of things given who wrote it and its contents as YGOTAS is to the anime side, which also has a page. I'll even volunteer to stop putting off reading it and write up an article after.
It is what it is either way, but it just seems like it would be interesting to learn about if you've never heard of it. Related: Is there a most wanted pages directory that I'm overlooking? It seems like we could definitely use more on real life players as a start. Anti-Mattering (talkcontribs) 08:58, 4 April 2022 (UTC)
YGOTAS only still has a page as a last remnant of much earlier days in the wiki's history before the whole "only official media" rule was really properly codified in our scope. At some point that page, too, will go away, as well as the page for LittleKuriboh.
There's a Special:WantedPages page which gets automatically updated whenever someone (almost always me) bothers to log in and run a server-side maintenance script.
Pages for players are another touchy area that historically we've had a lot of trouble with. No further pages for players should be created until a proper discussion about where the line should be drawn, which is likely to be "only people who've placed in a tournament at the level of WCQ or higher". However, if you want to create pages for tournaments/events instead, we definitely need someone interested in doing that. ディノ千?!☎ Dinoguy1000 09:54, 4 April 2022 (UTC)
I'll see if I can get around to that in the next few days. Is there a place to discuss these sorts of pages, by the way? It would be good if we could codify what does and doesn't count as relevant in relation to real world pages. I think we pretty much agree with regards to player accomplishments, but I don't know if that's enough for me to have the go-ahead to start making pages on WCQ and World Champions, or how far down the results lists for big tournaments would qualify someone for a page.
While I have you, would you or someone with the authority to do so mind looking at a few recent rename request pages I've commented on? They're all old discussions that seem like they have resolved or easy to resolve issues, but they went dead and have had the rename banner for well over a year minimum. Also a page that I just created but requires a rename due to sharing a name with something else, which is a page I can't make because of this issue. Forum:Yu-Gi-Oh! Wiki Community Discussion would be the place to host such a discussion. You should not create pages for players before that discussion is held, especially since part of the discussion will have to be about what sort of content we want on those pages, not just which pages we want.
The renames will be handled eventually; there's no rush. (Personally I tend to handle them when for some reason one annoys me.) As for "Immense Power", just create the ARC-V page at "Immense Power (ARC-V)" instead. If we later decide that the ARC-V page should have the primary title (or that neither one should), it's simple enough (if a bit annoying) to change around. ディノ千?!☎ Dinoguy1000 08:05, 5 April 2022 (UTC)
