Super Lair Card[edit]

Can somebody PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE find an image of the super Lair card and find out what it does? Someone out there must have the means to find out.--Thanonyx 02:25, March 30, 2010 (UTC)

now i'm playing this game in japanese language, as soon as i see that card i will post it. /////||||||\\\\\ Jump Enemy (talkcontribs) 11:59, April 20, 2011 (UTC)

i'm sorry, but Super Liar was (very probably) thinked as a joke, since it is a lie, the inventor called it "super liar", like he\she was... (this is my psychoanalytic theory about the misterious inventor of "Super Liar"). deleted from the page. /////||||||\\\\\ Jump Enemy (talkcontribs) 22:54, April 21, 2011 (UTC)

Super Liar and Toon Exodia by entering cheats[edit]

if someone wants to play the game and try by his own these cheats (see User_talk:Yamimillenium#Duel_Monsters_Video_Game) , it can be downoaded here: http://www.coolrom.com/roms/gbc/4711/Yu-Gi-Oh!_Duel_Monsters.php (there are also many other GBC yugioh japanese games) (emulator). other sources for cheats are http://urawaza.in/gb/yugiou.htm and http://www.geocities.co.jp/Playtown-Spade/6691/gemu3.html .... no mention of Super Liar or Toon Exodia /////||||||\\\\\ Jump Enemy (talkcontribs) 11:05, April 21, 2011 (UTC)

Character Decks[edit]

Hi, I have this game for Game Boy, and I was wondering; how do character decks work in this game? It's strange how decks can differ greatly with the same duelist. Are there multiple decks per character, or is it simply randomized each time? Thanks -SlashMan (talkcontribs) 22:18, March 12, 2013 (UTC)

I never got around to looking very closely at this (partly because my emulator is one of those that gives every opponent a BEWD or four, and partly because the card info screens don't have the card number, meaning I'd have to identify cards based on their Japanese name or their image, neither of which my memory is good enough to really allow), so I can't offer a definitive answer, but the character decks at least *seemed* to be consistent between Duels. If I can find a better emulator (and some more free time =P ), this is definitely something I'm going to explore, though (as well as fusions). ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 23:14, March 12, 2013 (UTC)
Yeah, I started with the emulators, too, but the Blue-Eyes glitch really screwed with all the ROMs I found. Though with the actual game, I've been keeping tabs on a few things (like fusions and cards received for winning). After playing the original Game Boy series for so long, identifying cards isn't much of a problem, but I've recorded Yugi's deck four times, and it's been noticeably different each time. -SlashMan (talkcontribs) 21:45, March 15, 2013 (UTC)
Interesting. Have you noticed any individual cards that have stayed the same? Does his Deck change from one Duel to the next, or does it stay the same for a given savegame? ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 23:16, March 15, 2013 (UTC)
There are a few cards that appear more commonly than others (i.e. Air Marmot of Nefariousness, Time Wizard, Weather Control, Lucky Trinket), but the quantities differ. Since there's no limit to cards in the game I've seen as many as 7 copies of a card used. Though the same card may only be used one time in the next duel. And the Deck changes each duel. -SlashMan (talkcontribs) 02:12, March 16, 2013 (UTC)
Do you force the opponent to burn through their whole Deck when you do this? ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 02:20, March 16, 2013 (UTC)
Yep. Though at max, it's only possible to see 39 cards that they've played because of deck sizes, and the fact that you MUST play a card every turn. Again, this is the only game that does this, as Duel Monsters II follows the standard pattern. -SlashMan (talkcontribs) 04:18, March 16, 2013 (UTC)
I suspect this game uses a system similar to Forbidden Memories, in which the opponent's deck is generated from a pool of 2048 cards before the duel starts. (for example in FM, P. Seto has 80 BEUD, 64 Gate Guardian, 48 Meteor B. Dragon, 120 BEWD...) --Froggy25 (talkcontribs) 07:19, May 2, 2013 (UTC)
Interesting, I think that's probably the case. I'll eventually start listing all the possible cards a character can use; though finding the exact numbers may be difficult. Also, I was wrong earlier, Duel Monsters II has the same system, but it isn't as noticeable (very rarely does an opponent play more than 3 copies of a card). -SlashMan (talkcontribs) 03:48, July 2, 2013 (UTC)
Spreadsheet, decks are on the left, drops are on the right, ratios are x / 2048: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1YWQ2ShxKJ2jRthvBmNHW3Uv47Vk-X3haEG2le6wz-qk/edit#gid=714206000 --Froggy25 (talkcontribs) 11:52, February 23, 2017 (UTC)
Cool! Do the ratios always actually add up to 2048 (assuming you bothered adding up for any of them), or are there cases where the total is less? (Are there cases where the total is more?)
I'm guessing the red background indicates cards with either ATK or DEF higher than 2500, right? ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 13:32, February 23, 2017 (UTC)
The ratios always add up to 2048. The probabilities are stored as cumulative ratios. The red background indicates 2400+ ATK and 2500+ DEF monsters, which can be useful for runners I guess. --Froggy25 (talkcontribs) 02:24, February 24, 2017 (UTC)
When you say that Simon uses a random Deck, does that mean his Deck can contain any of the 365 cards, with an equal probability of using each. -- Deltaneos (talk) 20:36, July 15, 2017 (UTC)
I made a mistake concerning Simon Muran. Turns out the game uses slightly different duelists IDs for decks. They likely changed the duelists order during development. The function I was looking at that loads a random deck (with random cards) is a fail-safe. I'll add the correct deck odds right away. --Froggy25 (talkcontribs) 03:31, September 3, 2017 (UTC)

Two other button passwords[edit]

While disassembling this game, I found two other button passwords.
Erase your save file: DOWN UP B DOWN DOWN RIGHT UP UP UP UP B+DOWN, then reset the game
Disables Super Game Boy 2 features: LEFT B B B UP B B B+RIGHT
The last one seems to reset (FFDE) to 2 if it was set to 3, but I don't know what this value is in the first place. When the password is entered correctly, a sound effect will play. If anyone can help me on this one, feel free to do so. --Froggy25 (talkcontribs) 03:40, May 7, 2015 (UTC)

DM1 anzu link.png
In this screenshot, Anzu says something related to Game Link there, right ? If that the case, I might know what the third code does. I can read z80 but not Japanese... --Froggy25 (talkcontribs) 17:45, May 8, 2015 (UTC)
Someone told me it's saying the SGB2 linking features can't be used in that game. So that clears the purpose of the last code. --Froggy25 (talkcontribs) 18:53, May 8, 2015 (UTC)

Trading Backward for Tournament Prizes[edit]

Currently, the section about tournament prizes states:

While two of the qualifying cards can also be unlocked with a password, and the four qualifying cards can be obtained by trading from Duel Monsters II: Dark duel Stories, the top four cards cannot be obtained legitimately by any other means.

But I've noticed those cards are normal drops in the 3rd and 4th games, and according to the wiki each game can trade backward with all prior games. Is there any reason the player couldn't trade the tournament prizes from DM3 and DM4 as a legitimate means of obtaining them in DM1? Gamechamp (talkcontribs) 18:36, 30 May 2023 (UTC)

This is a possibility I've considered before, but never been able to check/test; we'd want explicit confirmation that it does work before noting it in the article (e.g. DDS/DM4 may have checks specifically to prevent trading back the tournament prizes/hidden cards to DM1/DM2). ディノ千?!☎ Dinoguy1000 23:49, 30 May 2023 (UTC)
