Chronology links[edit]

Would it make more sense to link the "← 2011" to 2011 World Championship than to Template:2011 World Championship? It doesn't seem right to me that readers be sent to the template namespace. At least not for encyclopedic information. -- Deltaneos (talk) 18:29, May 15, 2012 (UTC)

That would make more sense to me. --Golden Key (talkcontribs) 18:31, May 15, 2012 (UTC)
I suppose, since we would actually have an article covering the event for the year. I've been modeling these links on how Wikipedia does it, namely by linking between nav templates, but that habit could well have been developed because the vast majority of such subjects on Wikipedia don't have an appropriate year-level article to point at, or something. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 18:54, May 15, 2012 (UTC)
It seems unusual that Wikipedia would do this. Can you show an example? I've checked a number of Wikipedia navboxes that have both articles and navboxes for different years of the same topic. I can't find examples that use the arrows at all. The arrow symbols even go against their accessibility guide. It might just be something a few editors thought looked nice rather than a recognised standard. I'm not trying to suggest that we don't use them at all. They still seem like a good idea to me. -- Deltaneos (talk) 19:18, May 15, 2012 (UTC)
I can't remember just where I've seen it, but in retrospect, it may not have been navboxes proper, but rather category navigation templates that I saw it on. I'm also not sure accessibility is such a primary concern for us in this case, either; we make heavy use of Unicode characters (especially in regards to Japanese text) that plenty of screen readers might choke on, and the characters here are limited to navboxes shown on a very small number of pages, relatively speaking. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 22:14, May 15, 2012 (UTC)
