Twilight Sparkle[edit]

Twilight utilizes a Harmony Spirit deck. Twilight's core six Harmony Spirits have two effects, one where they discard themselves from the hand to activate some effect, and another which activates while on the field when a Harmony Spirit is discarded. During her duel with Snips and Snails, Twilight acquires the ability to Fusion Summon. Her Fusion Monsters are powered-up forms of the original six Harmony Spirits sans "Magia," with similar but more powerful effects. She also acquires "Harmony Fusion" and "Harmony Spirit Draco" to further support continuous Fusion Summons. The same duel grants her support cards for the main Harmony Spirits with effects that let her return Harmony Spirits in the Graveyard to the deck to various effects. In general, Twilight's deck relies on building and maintaining field advantage, but is poor for hand advantage due to the many discard effects she utilizes.

Twilight's Harmony Spirits are personifications of her and her friends. The original six are the Mane Six, and of the secondary six, two of them are based on Princesses Celestia and Luna, the Cutie Mark Crusaders, and Spike. The original six are named in Ancient Equestrian, real-world Latin, their names approximating their Element of Harmony, while the Cutie Mark Crusaders are named "Apple," "Singing," and "Wind," and Spike is named "Dragon." The exception to this rule is the cards representing Celestia and Luna; as "Luna" is already the Latin name for the moon, these two cards derive their names from Greek. Her Fusion cards add descriptors unique to her Harmony Spirits, namely the Latin words for "Lightning," "Forest," "Wild," "Crystal," and "Nature."

Sunset Shimmer[edit]

Sunset plays an Infernal Spirit deck. Sunset's monsters have effects that let her banish her cards in order to damage the opponent's Life Points, or else have effects on the field that trigger when she banishes an Infernal Spirit. Her deck's reliance on burn makes it adept at quickly whittling down the opponent's Life Points, but she lacks for offensive presence; her monsters all have only 500/500 stats, and she needs "Infernal Spirit Invidia" to take blows meant for her other monsters. In general, Sunset treats her base six "Infernal Spirit" monsters as cannon fodder to weaken an opponent in preparation for the summon of her ace monster, "Infernal Spirit Superbia." Once "Superbia" is in play it is nearly impossible to permanently destroy, and Sunset resorts to using its brute power to crush opponents.

Sunset's deck is a twisted reflection of Twilight's. While mechanically similar the two playstyles are very different; Twilight's "Harmony Spirit" cards have a theme of teamwork, her cards protecting and empowering each other, while Sunset's "Infernal Spirit" deck relies on burn effects to quickly and painfully defeat opponents. While Twilight's cards are named for the virtues of the Elements of Harmony and embody her and her friends, Sunset's monsters are named after the Seven Deadly Sins and represent various antagonists from the show, with "Infernal Spirit Superbia" representing Sunset herself as the strongest among them. This trend carries into her Spell and Trap cards as well, which are named similarly to Twilight's cards with similar effects, such as Sunset's "Infernal Crystal" to Twilight's "Harmony Gem."

Duels[edit]

Opponent(s) Chapter(s) Outcome
Flash Senry 16 Win
Twilight Sparkle 19-21 Lose

Fluttershy[edit]

Fluttershy uses a Beast deck. Her monsters are mostly low-level with poor stats, so she relies on various card effects to weaken or destroy an opponent's monster. She also utilizes swarm tactics to quickly summon multiple monsters at once. As a fallback if she is unable to maintain this strategy, she can Tribute Summon her strongest monster, "Behemoth the King of All Animals."

Twilight Sparkle 3 Lose

Rainbow Dash[edit]

Rarity uses a U.A. deck based on futuristic sports stars. The effects of Rainbow's monsters let her change up her monster line-up every turn to adapt to the opponent's moves and counter them, but she struggles to build field advantage.

Applejack 9 No outcome
Twilight Sparkle 17 Lose

Applejack[edit]

Rarity uses a Plant deck, particularly the Plant Princess archetype. By combining the swarm effects of "Dandylion" and "Miracle Fertilizer" with the effects of "Gigaplant" and "Lonefire Blossom," Applejack is able to quickly fill the field with powerful monsters and overwhelm opponents. To this end her deck is heavily reliant on Spell cards to get her best monsters out quickly and build up field advantage, as many of her monsters are high-level.

Rainbow Dash 9 No outcome

Rarity[edit]

Rarity uses a Crystal Beast deck, focusing on the seven Crystal Beasts. Her primary strategy is to fill her Spell and Trap zone with destroyed Crystal Beasts, then use the effect of "Crystal Beast Ruby Carbuncle" to summon them back all at once and overwhelm her opponent. Rarity's deck contains "Rainbow Dragon" but she never summons it during a normal duel.

During her corruption by Sunset Shimmer's magic, Rarity's deck shifts to focus on "Rainbow Dark Dragon." To meet the summoning conditions of "Rainbow Dark Dragon," Rarity fills her Graveyard with her Crystal Beasts and converts them into Dark-Attribute monsters using "Advanced Dark." Once in play Rarity devotes all her deck's resources to the protection of "Rainbow Dark Dragon," using her "Crystal Beast" cards as shields to defend it and then banishing them to powering it up.

Flash Sentry[edit]

Flash plays a Gem-Knight deck, focusing on quickly summoning high-powered Fusion monsters by various methods, often multiple monsters in one turn or even on his opponent's turn. Twilight notes that the superior power of Flash's cards, combined with the speed at which he can summon his monsters, makes him dangerous in the lower brackets, able to hypothetically inflict a First Turn Kill with the right combo.
