Delta Eagle

In WC11, the Delta Eagle is called the Omega Hawk (or at least, that's what you unlock, but the other names are fine, like the Blackbird and Wheel of Fortune), is it worth mentioning somewhere? -Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 11:43, February 28, 2011 (UTC)

I can do that by changing the firmware language, like... this. (In case you're wondering, the stats in this image are different from the other one because I upgraded the other parts as well, like Engine and CPU)
The Japanese name is different, so I guess you're right about the counterpart bit. Yes, I just noticed that you cannot change the colours for these Frames, so that also confirms that.

Image question.

"Heliroid" currently has a png card image in the article, but the picture is not very good. A closer shot of the card is show in chapter 49, which I can upload. However, it's in jpg format. That was the English name that appeared in the manga. As far as I know, there isn't a scheduled TCG release for it, so the TCG name isn't set in stone yet. Need some help. MOV2-EN001

Hello, recently I watched Yu-Gi-Oh! 3D Bonds Beyond Time. The movie gave a card with it. Malefic Red-Eyes Black Dragon. I got one but the card ID is "MOV2-EN001" instead of "YMP1-EN001". Editing names in the Search bar

Hello! I've noticed that a lot of times when a card's name is changed (i.e. Inverz to Steelswarm, Tech Genus to T.G., True Six Samurai to Legendary Six Samurai) the change is not reflected in the search bar. I've asked on several pages and forums how to fix this, but haven't received any helpful responses on what to do. Could you possibly tell me what needs to be done to correct these errors? Autocomplete, yes! I've been trying to remember the correct terminology for it. Thanks for responding. After I saw how many articles you've edited, I figured you'd either know how to do it or would know who can. The problem exists for many other pages as well, including Gusto (still autocompletes as Gusta). I've looked back through histories, and it seems like this issue goes back to some time last year. Prior to that, when a page's name was changed the autocomplete corrected itself as well. Maybe when the site took on the newest format something stopped working? Thanks again. TF04 and TF05 deck names

Since the deck names only appear in the Japanese version, would a footnote specifying that be applicable in the articles? Someone who doesn't know that fact would probably chalk up the characters having those deck names to be wiki vandalism. Cheesedude (talk • contribs)

YVD Confirmed the Banlist!

When I first checked on Yu-Gi-Oh! Virtual Desktop to editing the Infernity Deck which is my style deck, I discovered this. Ever through it's Traditional, there are now 2 banned cards; "Cold Wave" and "Mass Driver". That surprised me when I turned it on. Speed Spell - Deceased Synchron

Yeah WC11 lists it as Deceased Synchron. Maybe there are more Speed Spell name changes, I had only found the real ocg card names that have been changed. I can add these changes too if you want. Redirects

It boggles my mind that the number at the lower-left hand corner of the card always redirects to the card page but the card's original translated name does not. I just got done redirecting several cards to the OCG/Japanese manga names, with the edit history revealing that administrators had deleted the redirects in the past as soon as the page was moved. Why do I need permission

Two brief things.

I'm aware of it being romanized on-screen as "Edo", and I usually do call him that myself. To clarify, "Ed" is also a valid (if perhaps not intended) romanization, correct? Also, I was browsing through the 5D's episode card galleries yesterday (nice little reminder of what Yusei's Deck was like before the WRGP) and noticed multiple copies of a card in a given episode being listed that number of times in the galleries. I'm assuming that is the standard style? I don't really care either way how we list it, but I'd like the manga card galleries to be consistent with the anime ones, so I'll probably go ahead and to the GX chapter galleries I've done. My first thought would be not to include multiples. That's how I originally wrote out most "Featured cards" sections as well. It's meant to list the cards that appeared in an episode or chapter. Multiplies aren't needed. Other users disagreed and added multiples to a lot of articles. In my view, the card galleries are sort of visual versions of the Featured cards sections, so my first thought be not to include them. Vandalism on Card Ruling pages!

Hi man! From what I'm seeing, even by preventing unregistered users from editing the Ruling Pages, a lot of people can simply create a "quick" account and do the vandalism with no problem. And it looks like that we have vandalisms of the Ruling Pages almost every day.

As you know, the Ruling Pages are one of the most important things for the game so this thing must stop somehow. I just had the idea to increase a bit more the limitation of the users that can edit them. What about something like only registered users with a specific amount of posts can edit them? (200? 5000? 1000?). Then if someone with less posts than the limit want to edit something official (I doubt that), he can ask another admin/user relative with the Rulings to edit them.

I'm saying that because the Ruling Pages are NOT a common page that people can post whatever they want. They must have ONLY specific official stuff, so preventing those users from editing them shouldn't be that much of a problem. By the way, right now only just a few users edit the Ruling pages with official stuff. Almost all the others do vandalisms.

Now, if a user manages to get enough posts just to do vandalism then he goes with the old fashioned way: warning -> warning -> ban

This way I think that we can increase by, not afraid to say, 100% the protection of the Ruling Pages from vandalisms.

Card Backing and Bot

  1. I think there are different versions of the Card backing File:StrategyCard-EN-Back.png; The one I have is this (back of DPYG-EN07, Strategy Card 7), what name should I upload it to?

Some property and parameter questions

Hey Delt, have you ever noticed that the {{CardTable2}} parameters {{{fusionmaterial1}}} and {{{synchromaterial1}}} mark their contents as Property:Fusion Material for and Property:Synchro Material for, respectively, whereas the "[fusion/synchro]material[2-10]" mark theirs as just Property:Fusion Material and Property:Synchro Material, respectively? This is terribly inconsistent, and we should choose either one or the other, but I'm not sure which one to go with (though I'm leaning toward the ones that omit the "for"s, myself). Also, do we want to use *align or *alignment for parameter names? CardTable2 currently uses "ddsalignment" for the actual display (it's the only one that *is* currently displayed; should we perhaps display all of them, or stop displaying "ddsalignment"?), but won't add "Class 4::VG" unless "ddsalign" is used, and it only uses the parameters "edsalign", "fmralign", "rodalign", and "tscalign" for the other cases. I thought there was also fm1 and sm1 etc. parameters. One set is supposed to list the material used to Summon a monster and one is supposed to list the what the monster is used as material for. e.g. "Flame Swordsman" would have "Flame Manipulator" and ""Masaki the Legendary Swordsman" as its "Fusion Material" and "Dark Flare Knight" as its "Fusion Material for". Only one of those was used in the past and someone asked me a few times to switch to the other, but I just added the option to use both.
I think "alignment" is better. Although FMR doesn't have any Alignments. The parameter might be used for Guardian Stars.
Card Category is probably also supposed to include Spell Card and Trap Card, which are nonsensically mixed with Attributes. That would make:
  • Card Category = Monster Card, Spell Card, Trap Card.
  • Card Type = Types of Monster/Spell/Trap: Normal Monster, Effect Monster, Ritual Monster etc. Normal Spell Card, Continuous Trap Card etc.
  • Monster Type = "Secondary" types of monsters: Spirit, Toon, Union, Gemini, Tuner, Dark Tuner, Armor.

That makes sense, except it's not how the template currently works. "fusionmaterial1" puts its value in "Property:Fusion Material for", whereas "fusionmaterial2" through "fusionmaterial10" all go to "Property:Fusion Material" (note the word "for" isn't there); it's the same way for the "synchromaterialX" parameters. Since we already have "fmX" and "smX" parameters (which all add to "Property:Fusion/Synchro Material"; I just checked), perhaps it would be clearer (and cleaner) to replace the former parameters with "fmforX" and "smforX"?
I can add another tracking parameter for us to find out about "fmralign" for sure. Do we want to display the other alignment parameters as we currently do for "ddsalignment"?
Well, "Property:Card Category"'s description explicitly says it is meant to hold just Monster Cards. I wouldn't have a problem with broadening it to hold other "top-level" card types, though (would we want to stop at just Monster/Spell/Trap Cards, or should we also go for Trap-Spell, Equip, etc.?), especially since it would help focus "Property:Card Type" (we need to clearly define the scope of some other properties (and maybe rename them) as well; I'd like to start with "Property:Medium" and the "Class X" properties).

Whatever you think works best.
Showing a property from an old video game in the middle of an article on a TCG/OGG card may look confusing. The status table at the bottom is probably the best place for them.
Add Virus and Trap-Spell if we're doing that. Equip is just a type of Spell Card and sometimes a type of Trap Card. It's not a top level type. Yeah, those Class 1, 2, 3 properties are a nightmare.

I thought there were a handful of cards from the manga that were just called "Equip Cards"... Am I mistaken, or were those all released as actual cards (and, therefore, clarified as Spell/Trap Cards), or are there still any that have never been clarified?

I'm not sure. Maybe ddsuper and ddslower. Like the alignment pages, there doesn't seem to be anything using them.
I don't think there were any such Equip Cards in the manga. If there actually were, they all must have been released by now as something else.
'Not sure. There a couple of different non-game cards: Tip, FAQ, Strategy, Checklist and things like "Voyage to the Kingdom". Maybe we should have a property for the different types of non-game cards?

I'll add tracking categories for all the alignment parameters and ddsupper/lower later (if there's anything else you want a look at, list them and I'll add categories for them as well (this goes for parameter intersections or particular values in addition to just raw parameter usage, if that gives you any ideas)). If there's really nothing using them, maybe it would be better to just remove them?
Do they all currently go to Property:Type? It would probably be a good idea for them all to have their own property.
We could use that topic more generally for interwiki addition requests, in which case it should probably be stickied. At any rate, I would think that we aren't nearly as concerned about necro-bumping in the wiki discussion forum as in others, since we use it for more technical discussions.
I've been thinking about the Japanese name parameters, and I think a good setup would be as follows:
  • "jpname" is used for the name exactly as given on the card or in the manga/anime/video games, including ruby text
  • "kanji" is used for the base name if "jpname" has ruby text (this would also catch cases where the base name has English text with a ruby pronunciation guide, but no kanji characters, but I doubt we're worried about sorting these from the rest)
  • "kana" is used for the ruby text name if "jpname" has ruby text
  • "ruby" could be used if there are any cases where the exact card name does not have ruby text, but there is an official version of the name with ruby text (or maybe that would be better handled with an "altjpname" parameter?
Alternately, we could completely eliminate ambiguity by having only "ruby", "kanji", and "kana" parameters, and using them as would be expected from their names (I actually like this setup better, though it does break from the current "lnname" scheme); this would mean we could have the very simple code {{ #if: {{{ruby|}}} | {{{ruby}}} | {{ #if: {{{kanji|}}} | {{{kanji}}} | {{{kana|}}} }} }} for displaying the Japanese name in the header (it would need a bit more for adding the linebreak between the English and Japanese name, but that would just be one more #if). Google isn't picking up any card articles containing the text "DDS Alignment" (That's how I found the Indonesian wiki.), so the tracking categories might not be worth the effort. I don't mind if the parameters are reorganised or scrapped, unless someone is planning on using them.
There aren't any articles for FAQ cards at the moment. Tip Cards use both "Type" and "Card Type". Strategy cards use both "Type" and "Card Type". Checklists are listed as strategy cards in "Type" "Card Type" . All of them are also listed as [[Class 1::FAQ]] Here's an example of each: "Command Knight", Big Bang Breaker!, Duelist Pack -Jaden Yuki 3- Checklist
What I dislike about Japanese name parameters is that almost every template does them differently. Basically you're saying is rename "jphira" "kana", swap the names of "kanji" and "jpname" and add the new "ruby" parameter.
  • "jphira" → "kana" is fine. (Maybe we should rename "phon" "romaji" too)
  • "ruby" is an extra optional parameter. I can't see it causing any problems. Although are there definitely cases where it would be used? Maybe "Ride of the Valkyries" or "DNA Checkup" (over "DNA")?
  • Are you choosing to use the name with ruby markup as "jpname" because you feel its the main Japanese name, so it should have the parameter most consistent with the other languages? I was thinking the name printed minus the furigana could be the main one, since its one used in Property:Japanese Name and the one people would use to lookup the card. I was thinking "jpname" should be used for the Japanese name minus furigana and always be used, while something like "ruby"/"rubyname"/"furigana" etc. be used to store the name with ruby text, only when there is furigana. Alternatively would it be possible use one parameter for the Japanese name, which would include ruby markup (if any) and then use strings to split it into the different names?

I'll be editing CardTable2 for some of the other stuff we've discussed here, and it really won't be that much trouble to throw in a handful of tracking categories on top of those changes. I'd rather expend the extra effort for nothing than to just remove the parameters and find out they actually were used.
Should they all go to the same property, or across two or more? What name(s) should we use (Property:Non-game cards?)?
Now that I have somewhat more experience with using (and, more generally, just thinking about) StringFunctions, I don't think there would be any clean, simple, and reliable way to auto-separate ruby text into the base text and the furigana... There might be some way to do it with a bunch of subtemplates or something, but I can't see any successful method looking too pretty.
It seems we're in agreement (we both prefer my second proposal); the rest of my comments will be with the assumption that's what we're going with.
I meant to suggest renaming "phon" to "romaji", but it slipped my mind. As for template inconsistency, once we get this settled, it'd probably be good to go forward with it as the wiki-wide standard, changing over other templates as we think of or find them. If we do, "Property:Japanese Name" should default to "kanji", "kana", and "ruby", in that order (I don't know if there'll ever be cases of a card's romaji name being offered before any of those, but we could probably throw "romaji" in second-to-last or last just to be safe).
For #ask/#show, do we generally want the card's kanji name, or its ruby name? If it's the latter, I think we'll want another property whose order of precedence moves "ruby" to the top of the list I gave above.
Given current usage, I think we should probably keep "jpname" as an alternate parameter for "ruby" while everything gets switched over. Once that's done, we can switch it to be an undocumented (to deter further use) alternate for "kanji" instead.

I would comment that there are situations where romaji is added without kanji. Specifically, when I create a card page and can't find the kanji written anywhere online. I'd say use one property and call it "Non-game cards".
For #show/#ask, I'd say "ruby" > "kanji" > "kana". For searching using Special:SearchByProperty and similar stuff "kanji" > "kana" (> "ruby")* would be better. So, I guess both are needed. One would be "Property:Japanese Name". The other maybe "Property:Full Japanese Name"? *(It's probably better "ruby" doesn't get used as a fallback. It won't be needed and if it does get used, it could be too long for Type:String and give error messages.)
Yeah, we can't assume all our editors are going to know the difference between kanji and kana. If someone says "kanji = the kana name" it's unlikely they'll use {{{kana}}}, so we could set {{{kanji}}} without {{{kana}}} to be labelled as "Kana" and add a tracking category. AFAIK, "Ride of the Valkyries" is the only card where this could be a problem. (It's even a problem in the current setup.)
Speaking of "Rode of the Valkyries", there is another problem with cards using foreign characters in their Japanese name. What we'd be calling "Kanji Name" wouldn't necessarily be kanji. If we look at it this way:

"Property:Kanji Name" won't be appropriate, so maybe "Property:Japanese Name". The level 3 name would be the name printed on the card and what would be displayed using #show/#ask and what's printed at the top of the card article. It could be called something like "Property:Full Japanese Name". Propertywise that's almost the same as what we're using now. Warning: lots and lots of text ahead... Not much I can do about that; this becomes more complicated every time I look back at it. =P
I didn't really think about this before, but we can do a limited amount of sorting template-side with StringFunctions. The easiest such application would be in detecting the presence (or absence) of ruby markup in a given field, since the markup doesn't change significantly from page to page (even the really weird permutations are guaranteed to at least have opening <ruby> and <rt> tags; this is the bare minimum necessary for the desired rendered appearance). We can also use this for auto-detection of pages that don't yet use {{Ruby}}, since that template adds a couple of attributes to the opening <ruby/> tag, whereas every hardcoded instance I've seen just uses the plain tag.
I was actually thinking about adding "Property:Japanese Names", which would contain all the variants passed to CardTable2 (much as Property:English Alternate Names (that property is confusingly named =P ) currently does with pretty much all the VG names and a handful of other English names; on that note, maybe we should also add a "Property:English Names" for storing *all* English names given for a card?). This would allow a person to search for any version of a name they'd like just by searching a single property.
Would you want the "ruby" or the "kanji" chain to be the one used for "Property:Japanese Name"?
I thought I had cleverly wrapped all this up when I suggested the second system above, but thinking about it more, and reading your above comment, I realize this is actually ridiculously messy. If we go with the parameter name "kana" for a card's furigana ruby name, it's not a semantically valid moniker since many furigana ruby names contain kanji characters that don't have a furigana counterpart in the ruby name. There are also cases where we'd be using "kanji" for card names that don't actually have any kanji characters (a number of the cards introduced in Generation Force are like this, having kana-only Japanese names, and then there's the fullwidth-Latin-only "Ride of the Valkyries" you pointed out).
Given all that, I think the best way to handle the parameters and properties would be something like:
  • The name, as it appears on the card, and without furigana ruby text (i.e. the base name), goes in the "kanji" parameter, regardless of whether the name actually contains any kanji, or just kana, or even if it contains no actual Japanese text whatsoever. We do a bit of checking to make sure there's no ruby text in the parameter value (if there is, we would add a tracking category and maybe change how we handle the parameter), and then stick the value in "Property:Japanese Name" and "Property:Japanese Names".
  • If the card has one, the ruby name goes in the "ruby" parameter. Again, we do a bit of checking to make sure it's only text with ruby markup being put in this parameter, and then it gets put in "Property:Full Japanese Name" (or whatever the property gets named) and "Property:Japanese Names".
  • If the card has a ruby name, the furigana name goes in the "kana" parameter (as I hinted above, I don't really like this parameter name any more since it won't be semantically valid for many cards, but I can't come up with a good alternative that's not confusable with the "ruby" parameter, and "furigana" has many of the same problems as "kana"). I can't come up with a good property name for this, but maybe something like "Property:Furigana Ruby Name"? (and, needless to say, it also ends up in "Property:Japanese Names")
For error checking (assuming, for simplicity, that we use "kanji", "ruby", and "kana" for parameter names; mentally switch these out if we change them later):
  • "kanji" and "kana" should never contain ruby markup - if they do, add a tracking category
  • "ruby" should always contain ruby markup - if not, add a tracking category
  • "kanji" should always be given if "kana" and "ruby" are - if not, add a tracking category (maybe we want to track *all* cards that don't provide "kanji" (albeit separately tracking cases of "kana"/"ruby" without "kanji", and cases where there's just no Japanese name given)?)
  • if one of "ruby" or "kana" are given, they should both be - if not, add a tracking category
For display (on the card page and other pages):
  • Japanese name in card table header: "ruby" --> "kanji" --> "kana" ( --> "romaji"?)
  • Japanese name rows in card table (not necessarily in this order, and the labels could (should?) change):
    • "Japanese" --> "kanji"
    • "Ruby" --> "ruby"
    • "Japanese (furigana)" (this is the one I'm most uncertain of) --> "kana"
    • "Romaji" --> "romaji"
    • "Translated" --> "trans"
  • Japanese name in #ask-generated tables: "Property:Full Japanese Name"(?): "ruby" --> "kanji" --> "kana" --> "romaji" (taking into consideration Cheesedude's above comment ;) )
I think the biggest takeaway from all this is that we probably have to give up on semantically correct and meaningful parameter names for Japanese name variants; we just don't have the tools necessary to automatically deal with the complexity and messiness of real life (and if we try to do so with parameters, we'll end up with a massive, impossible-to-use-and-harder-to-maintain beast a million times worse than even the current situation; there are simply too many possible permutations we'd have to sort out). Sorry about the late reply.
I started Template:Ruby/split, which should be able to strip names to just base characters or just furigana characters. It replies on <rb></rb> tags, which Template:Ruby omits. Is it okay if we add them? There is a 1000 character restriction on string lengths, but using templates (i.e. {{ruby}}) shortens the length, so it shouldn't be a problem. The {{#explode:y|</ruby>|1}} is supposed to pick up unrubied text, but I can't figure out why it's not working.
Property:Japanese Names sounds great. I don't think any other properties like "Kana Name", "Full Japanese Name" or "Ruby Furigana Name" are needed. "Japanese Name" (ruby > kanji > kana) works for displaying stuff and "Japanese Names" works for searching. Are properties needed for anything else? If we do need properties for them would "Japanese Name" (ruby > kanji > kana), "Base Japanese Name" (kanji > kana) and "Kana Name" (kana) be okay?
  • You're saying that there are some cards whose name has furigana on some of its kanji, but not on the rest of its kanji? ... are you sure?
  • I don't see how kana-only names are a problem. It results in the table saying something like "Japanese (kana): ブラック・マジシャン" and the article having the properties: Japanese Name::ブラック・マジシャン and Japanese Names::ブラック・マジシャン.
  • Japanese names with non-Japanese characters, like Ride of the Valkyries, aren't going to cause problems with the properties if the properties are just called "Japanese Name" and "Japanese Names" (no mention of kanji, kana, ruby or furigana in the property names). There may be problems with how they are labelled on the CardTable. There's the furigana name displayed at the top of the table. No problems there, since it doesn't have a label. Then there's the one/two names further down the table. One of them is the Japanese name minus furigana. The other is the kana name. What if we just label the first as "Japanese" and the second as "Japanese (kana)"? "Japanese (kana)" won't appear unless there are two names and will always be kana.
Assuming we go with using strings to split the Japanese name and just using the properties Japanese Name and Japanese Names, CardTable2 would work like this:

Okay, onto the error checking. It should be allowed to have "kana" without "ruby". e.g. "Dark Magician", so there shouldn't be an error check for that and "kana" should be a second preference after "kanji" next to "Japanese" in the names part of the table.
#ask queries should print Property:Japanese Name (ruby > kanji > kana). I don't think "romaji" should be necessary a preference after "kana". A blank cell is probably fine.

Interesting; maybe that will be far simpler than I thought. I haven't taken a very close look at the template or played around with it any yet, though; it wouldn't hurt to slap together a test page with a few different use cases.
I suggested individual properties for each JP name variant only because I wasn't sure if there would be cases where people might want only one particular variant type; if you don't think they're needed, I have no problem omitting them, though your suggestions for the names sound good if we do go that route.
  • Actually, I only assumed that. I could've sworn I've seen cases like that, but looking again, I'm not seeing any of them immediately. I may have gotten this idea in my head from reading elsewhere about how kanji characters tend to be handled depending on their intended audience, as far as ruby text is concerned.
  • In light of that, I don't have nearly as much problem with "kana" as a parameter/property name or label.
  • "Japanese (kana)" wouldn't always be kana; for instance, the ruby name of "100,000 Gauss!" is "１０万（まん）ガウス！", giving a furigana name of "１０まんガウス！", which includes fullwidth Latin characters (this isn't the only case either; "The 13th Grave", "30,000-Year White Turtle", and "4-Starred Ladybug of Doom" all seem to be the same way, and that's just from the cards whose names start with a digit). Regardless, though, I have far less of a problem with applying "kana" to these cases than to ones that include kanji.
I was thinking to also add the ruby name as one of the values for "Japanese Names". I doubt anyone would really try to search on a ruby card name, but including it as a "just in case" is free for us, so there's really no reason not to.
Would separate "kana" and "furigana" parameters be worth doing, or would that just be overcomplicating things?

I don't think adding the ruby name to "Japanese Names" would work. You'd need to use Type:Text, rather than Type:String for anything with ruby markup, but Type:Text doesn't really work with SearchByProperty, even if you entered one of the non-ruby Japanese names character-for-character.
I can't see much use for separating kana and furigana like that.

I'm not sure how familiar you are with the GX manga, so ignore the link if you don't want spoilers. I uploaded some images for the final chapter. The images I chose are important moments, but two of them a bit big to fit in with the summary. I attempted to get them to fit into the article as best I could, but it doesn't look quite right. I'm not really image-savvy, so is there anything that can be done to make them fit a bit better. To be honest, that was likely a copy-paste error when I added the newer infobox. Generally speaking, when I did so, I would copy an infobox from another character article and then edit it based on what the old infobox said. I likely just forgot to remove the voice actor links when I added WK's info. The English voice actor is probably incorrect as well. TV Tokyo vs. 4KIDS

Did you here? 4KIDS, the owner of the Yu-Gi-Oh! rights in America, is about to die!! TV Tokyo is suing them for like 4.8 million US dollars. 4KIDS sucks right now too, and cannot; I repeat CANNOT, pay for this!! Some things I wanted to ask you about

First off, would you mind terribly if I nuked these? TTF wanted them kept for some reason, but I don't have the faintest idea what that reason could possibly be, especially since they're now clogging up categories used for real cards.
