Image categories

Is Category:Images/by subject not used anymore? There are a LOT of uncategoriaed card images, and I actually created the ZEXAL category yesterday. Is categorizing images just something that fell by the wayside? Also, what's with the GX cat? Why is it only for card images and only those that don't have OCG/TCG counterparts? The image categories are something that've been needing review for a long time. The GX category should be broadened to include any GX images, and they all need to use sentence case rather than capitalizing every word (so we need Category:Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL anime images and Category:Yu-Gi-Oh! GX anime images instead of Category:Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL Anime Images and Category:Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Anime Only Card Images).

I'm not sure about Category:Images/by subject. I suppose there's not much reason not to use it, though I must confess I don't care for the name (that's not to say I have any suggestions for better names, though =P ). 「ダイノガイ千？！」^{? · ☎ Dinoguy1000} 02:08, August 7, 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, that GX category is for images of GX anime cards that don't appear in anything else (OCG/TCG/video games etc.)

Category:Images/by subject is one of the ACG synced pages and a lot of old categories were dumped there when clearing out Special:UncategorizedPages, so category names and purposes are inconsistent.

I don't like the name "Images/by subject" either. A lot of the synced images and template categories use subpages. In my opinion, there are many organisational problems with subpages for articles, which apply to categories too. The short summary of most of the problems is the category structure here isn't simple enough to use a consistent set of subpage subcategories.

What do you mean you're not sure about Category:Images/by subject? Is there a problem with it other than its name?

As for categorising more images by their subject: Categorising OCG/TCG card images by subject (rarity, set, language, edition) should be easy enough with Dinoguy's Template:OCG-TCG card image template. How does this look for a category structure? -- Deltaneos (talk) 19:51, August 7, 2011 (UTC)

Me not being sure about the by subject category is more a result of my not having ever put much thought into overall image/file categorization schemes; should I ever start looking at them, I don't want to pigeonhole myself into one particular way when there's maybe a better way to do so (that's not to say I don't think we should use it in the meantime; we already have it in place and being used, and it would (should) be easier to simply switch over in the future if we wanted, then to stop using it now and wait around).

The structure you have there looks pretty interesting. What do you think of having a "[Card] Images by media" parent category for the anime/manga/VG cats (I think we should also have an "Images by card game" category, or the like, for Bandai, DDM, etc. stuff)? One more thought (more just a general note than anything): We should probably start using __NOGALLERY__ on any categories intended to handle images, since the vast majority of ours are fair-use, and we're generally wanting to restrict their inclusion to content namespaces (using the categories as galleries would be nice, but we arguably need a fair-use rationale template for every use, so it gets messy pretty quickly =/ ). 「ダイノガイ千？！」^{? · ☎ Dinoguy1000} 01:31, August 8, 2011 (UTC)

Dai Grepher deletion?

I've only recently began using and editing this wiki, so I'm not sure where to direct this suggestion, but after sorting out some Trivia pages for the card "Warrior Dai Grepher", I'd like to suggest the deletion of the page "Warrior Dai Grepher (series)", given that almost all of the information belongs in - and has been added to - the card's own Trivia link, and because it's not so much a card 'series' as one card and a deluge of fictional speculation, especially since three out of the five cards in this 'series' already have their own series page: Dark Lucius.

Judge Rulings

The one you post in the Talk Page of Yu-Jo Friendship's Tip Card, it seemed little off with the reference of people; like for explain; "A player has 39 cards in her Main Deck." it sound like if player is only female and never said "their". Where it says "A player has 39 cards in her Main Deck.", it's only giving a list of a few example scenarios. It's not covering all possible situations. Using a girl for the example doesn't mean it doesn't apply to boys like how using "39 cards" for the example doesn't mean it doesn't apply to "38 cards". -- Deltaneos (talk) 23:08, August 10, 2011 (UTC)

Aah yes, the problem of how to refer to a gender-unspecified subject. Using "she"/"her" is a feminism-driven analog to the much older tradition of "he"/"him"; other methods include "they"/"them" (my personal preference), "he/she"/"him/her", "s/he", and "xe"/"hir" (I'm not even joking =( ). I believed you, Dino, for "xe"/"hir" part, as I have seen the latter often in other site - same site that I asked you about that certain word at your own talk page - So I was just to be certain if it was just mistake or it was writing that way. But since D-Neos explained to me about that part; not many duelists have certain number to be same (40 exact cards), so they just put "one" person, accident hit "her" - which bring me to absolute understandable and approve of that Judge Rulings. Anime Images

Hey. I've been finding so many Anime images that aren't link to anything. I really don't know anything about anime and I don't know what to do with those. I'm not talking about cards from animes but screenshots from those like This one. Delete them all? List every that i find in some user talk page who can take care of it? I suppose we could make a template that flags images for deletion and after two weeks automatically moves them to the speedy deletion category. That way you would add {{Unused file|date}} to the image, notify the uploader. That has card images too, but that's a good thing. In addition to a bunch of character images, there are plenty of anime card images I always assumed we didn't have. Questions on Talk Pages

Is there anything in the rules against users asking questions on Talk pages? Lately questions have been deleted on sight, such as here and here. Actually, Project:Talk pages#Acceptable usage says users asking questions about the subject that they cannot find in the article is allowed. That means questions like "When did Yugi get the Millennium Puzzle?" and 'Can I chain "Mystical Space Typhoon" to "Imperial Order"?' would be acceptable while questions like "Who would win a Duel Yugi or Yusei?" and 'Does anyone else think the 3 "(Cyber) Harpie Lady (1/2/3)" per Deck rule is dumb?' aren't acceptable. Questions about changing the article are obviously acceptable.

"Drago" and "draco" are different words. I don't think it would use one if it's referring to the other. There are loads of things that use the names Drago and Draco (and loads that aren't listed on those Wikipedia pages). I don't see any indication that it's referring to this particular one. I don't think them both being dragons would be an indication since the words "drago" and "draco" are both variations of the word "dragon", so it's not unlikely that anything using those names would be dragon-like.

clean-up archtype pages?

the archetype pages should be focused more on describing the archetype instead of the playstyle. many pages only have one or a few lines describing the archetype, and one whole portion on the playstyle (example Agent). i suggest moving the playstyle to subpages (such as Infernity/Deck) -Lpoi (talk • contribs) 06:48, August 18, 2011 (UTC)

In the same vein, I think we should confine anime/manga stuff to a separate subsection, with the possible exception being mention of their users in the lead.. I don't know much about ZEXAL, so I don't really know. But if it is worth an article, I'd say make it more like the Signers and Hirutani's gang articles. DL09-DL12

Hey just a quick question with the new Duelist League promo style. They are similar to Rare but have four different colors for there card name text. I was wondering what we should name this type of rarity due to the fact that the colors change each set. Maybe some thing like CR for Color Rare but that doesn't solve the multiple versions in each set. I'm just trying to find a way to upload and name all of these different types. Any ideas are welcome. There was a discussion on this somewhere, but I can't recall where right now. I thought the end result was to use CardNameSETID-LN-RARITY-ED-Colour.jpg. e.g. File:Blackwing-BoratheSpearDL09-EN-R-UE-Red.jpg (Side note: needs the hyphen removed in the card name.) But File:BlueEyesWhiteDragonDL09-EN-RR-UE.jpg is using RR, probably meaning red Rare, for its rarity. I think the first way works better though. Archetype support in relation to Fusion Monsters

Certain pages list any Fusion Monster that is the result of Fusion of monsters from that archetype as being support for that archetype. Such as "Ma'at" being support for both "Kuribohs" and "Darkness". Is there something I'm missing here? Because that seems like very flawed logic to me. Yes, that's by design. When a forum thread is manually or automatically archived, the edit button is replaced with a grayed-out "archived" label to help prevent pointless necrobumping. Is it a great idea to have a King of Games before Yugi Muto or not?

Is it a great idea to have a King of Games before Yugi Muto because when Maximillion Pegasus created Duel Monsters, there should be a title for it when there are cards, shouldn't there? If there were a King of Games before Yugi Muto, it would be set in the creation of Domino City, wouldn't it?

First off you said "which she also seen in other places throughout the town, is doing there" (there is a few words missing in there, also the "IS doing there" wasn't needed and didn't make sense), shouldn't it say "which she also has seen in other places throughout the town"? Second another thing I noticed was that you revealed "Schwank" too soon when they had just arrived at the town (at this point in the episode the name was not revealed yet, so saying it too soon spoils it for those who're reading it, and because the name was not even mentioned yet, it is later, but not yet). Everything else I put that you changed (except the overuse of words) was actually said in the translations, which I put back because the characters said those things (though we still need to note dub dialog changes and other things). For example, Luna didn't just plea (she did, but she said "Don't!"), another example is she also did say as she ran after the spirits to please not run away. You also got rid of the "Flashback" as Luna thinks to a previous conversation in the past. Lastly the person Luna recalls was not "Someone", it was "Ancient Fairy Dragon". I don't really know what our "official" stance on this is, but I personally have no sympathy for people who read plot summaries and then get mad when the summary spoils the story for them (this is largely due to the time I spent on Wikipedia, which has a quite stringent policy on not avoiding spoilers). You're only quoting the end of the sentence. Verbs usually don't make no sense when you exclude the subject. It said "Luna ponders if in this world things move in the opposite direction and what the staff, which she also seen in other places throughout the town, is doing there." The part between the two commas is just a description of the previous word. You can add or remove "and" items and such descriptions from sentences without breaking grammar rules. This sentence can be shortened to "Luna ponders [...] what the staff [...] is doing there", which makes sense. Although it might have been better had I left the "ponders" as "wonders", but I was trying to find alternatives since "wonder" had been used five times in that paragraph, three times in the paragraph before it and four times over the next three paragraphs. If the sentence is too long to realise what the "is doing there" is referring to, it might be worth splitting into two sentences.

I only linked to the town I didn't mention its name in the visible text, so it doesn't interfere with the context of the article. I don't think its name is a spoiler anyway. The town was mentioned, albeit not by name. When something is mentioned, there should be a link so people can look up further information on it if they want. Shadi and Mokuba weren't mentioned by name in their debut chapters either, but have such important roles in those chapters it would be weird not to link to them. Spoiler wary people shouldn't be clicking any links, since almost any article they go to can have information on later episodes.

Sorry about the "plea" change. I don't mind if you fix that. "Say" was being used a lot. I was trying to find alternatives. I didn't realise "plea" was inaccurate.

I removed the section header. I didn't remove the flashback itself. It was only two sentences and something Luna was remembering while doing something else. I didn't think it think it needed its own subsection.

Apologies on the "Ancient Fairy Dragon" to "someone" change. The sentence after the flashback said "Luna wonders if Ancient Fairy Dragon was the one who had called her". I was assuming you were referring to the flashback when you said that, in which case it would have made more sense to not say who the someone was in the first instance.
