Question

Hey Delt, can you clear up on Pokemon wikia that users do have the right to remove comments off their own page regardless of weather or not the comment was harmful? They don't seem to understand, and it's grinding on my nerves. Shardsilver (talk • contribs) 12:35, January 7, 2014 (UTC)

This is pretty interesting. Apparently admin Rainbow Shifter says that you can remove insults, harassment, rudeness etc, just that you're supposed to archive normal or warning comments rather than just only remove. Different wikis can have different rules. I think the only stuff that every wiki on Wikia has to let you remove is anything that violates the terms of use. And I think she was inviting you to create a forum on that wiki, not this one. I didn't know that different wikias had different rules (thank you for bringing that to my attention though). Well this is my most visited wiki, so I figured it wouldn't hurt to have one discussion here first. Of course I wouldn't try to suggest two communitys trying to tell each other what to do (that's their decisions in their respective community/wikia, just like we have our own decisions here). Greek name not shown!

Hey Deltaneos! Do you know why the Greek name in this card is not shown? ATEMVEGETA (Talk) 23:21, January 23, 2014 (UTC)

Unofficial languages were removed from view on the card table. They only exist as semantic data now.

So stuff like "{{ #show: Swordsman from a Distant Land |?Greek name }}" = "" and Special:Browse/Swordsman from a Distant Land still show the Greek name, but you don't see the information on the card table.

Question

Oh, the one-point lesson "T.G. Blade Baster" didn't have "Accel" printed on it, so I assumed none of the "Accel Synchro Monsters" or "Delta Accel Synchro Monsters" had it. But on inspection, they do. -- Deltaneos (talk) 00:05, February 2, 2014 (UTC)

RFA Template, etc.

Hi, Deltaneos! Over at gaming.wikia they're trying to build an RFA process similar to what is on this wikia. The problem is that some of the components were deleted a while back; I've hunted down what I can, but there's still pieces missing. Probably most importantly is the ability for the archive to work properly.

Since you appear to be the primary person that created the whole process and templates here, I was wondering if you might be willing to take some time to go over things at the gaming wikia with a fine tooth comb from top to bottom? I know it's asking a lot, but I'd be very (eternally) grateful for your help. If you can, let me know if there's any temp rights you might need :) Thanks for your time and consideration! That system relies on Semantic Mediawiki, an extension that could be enabled per-wiki in the past. Unfortunately, Wikia don't offer that option anymore. It might be possible to achieve something similar with DPL (DynamicPageList). -- Deltaneos (talk) 19:45, February 5, 2014 (UTC)

I was told via special contact that you had to be contributed to the article or at the very least be an admin to ask for content to be attributed. As for a url in the edit summary, from what I read in the license it seems to indicate to me in section 4c that all the items in 4c have to part of the same credits. Chapter Links

Cheesedude told me to bring this to you if I couldn't sort it out. A day or two ago, I created pages for Yu-Gi-Oh! Duelist chapter 161, 162, and 163. The problem is, while 162 acknowledges 161 and 163 as the previous and next respectively, neither of those chapters has a link to 162 in their respective previous/next sections. Yeah, I see what's going on.

Short answer: I've just null edited Yu-Gi-Oh! Duelist - Duel 162 to force some stuff to update.

Long answer: You might have heard of Semantic MediaWiki? It's the thing we use to store information on a page in a way that other pages can access that information. In this case Yu-Gi-Oh! Duelist - Duel 161 and Yu-Gi-Oh! Duelist - Duel 163 are trying to get information from Yu-Gi-Oh! Duelist - Duel 162. Usually when this isn't working, it means one of two things:

  • The page storing the information needs to be updated to send the latest information. You can force it to do this by editing it, even if you null edit it i.e. click save/publish without making changes.
  • The pages extracting the information need to be "refreshed" to ensure they are receiving the latest information from the other page. You can force them to do this add ?action=purge to the end of their URLs. e.g. yugipedia.com/wiki/Yu-Gi-Oh!_Duelist_-_Duel_161?action=purge

Manga

Yo, I noticed you've been working in the original manga. I finished working on R, so I thought I'd give some help in the original manga, since it really needs a lotta work. I've finished adding info for the last chapters of the Duelist Kingdom, and now comes the D.D.D. mini-arc. I was thinking, should we add something like "Featured Game" in the non-Duel Monsters chapters of the original manga? Not only D.D.D., but other games take place in the original manga too, like in chapter 135 (76 of Duelist), where Otogi challenges Jonouchi and Yugi to a game using trump cards. I did so for Yugi and Otogi's D.D.D. match, but after doing so, I changed my mind, I think that minor games like Four Aces can stay in their own articles. Or we can add something like "Featured Games" in the chapter articles, then put a "Main|Four Aces" thing. Oh, also. You think it's worth it creating individual articles for the duels and games (like Yami Yugi and Mai's Duel and Dark Yugi and Mokuba's pre Death-T Capsule Monster Chess game for example)? 'Cause, they are added in the chapter articles already. Also, I've noticed the "games" template has a link to "Four Aces", and between parentheses, an individual article for both Jonouchi's and Yugi's matches, for example; I added everything in one single article smoothly, I think there's no need to all those aditional pages. I considered articles on Duels and long games to be significant events from the series. Like characters, tournaments, etc. the information can be obtained by reading consecutive chapter/episode pages, but the reader might also be interested in a dedicated page with the overview, quick stats and all the cards used.

The individual four aces games articles, I'm not too pushed about anymore. I had considered using SMW to store information on games, including players and winners, so you could quickly look up what games a character took part in, what medium it was in (anime, manga etc.), if they won and who they beat. To set that up, every game was going to need its own page. That's also why I had been using [[Yami Yugi|Dark Yugi]], rather than [[Dark Yugi (manga)|Dark Yugi]] in the infoboxes. But I don't think I'll be bothering with that. Too many problems with that system and that kind of information can already be found out quickly enough without SMW. -- Deltaneos (talk) 22:32, March 3, 2014 (UTC)

Standing vs. Ground

Attributes Variant Icons

Hi DeltaNeos,

i was looking for someone like you. You seem to understand how to programm in wiki media. I've made these small images for the attribute which fit much better into flowing text. Of course they are unofficial. It's kinda weird that you revert something that is made specially for this wiki that can be used much better in text File:dark.png or in lists.

I would like to have lists that show up like this: File:Minikarte02.png‎ Can you help with that?

Is it ok if i revert your revert on attributes? Your reasoning for the revert is off. It's not that i created a new fictional card or something. Those icons are made that they are smaller and fit better. I could also make round ones if required.

Nope i added my icons (File:dark.png File:devine.png File:earth.png File:light.png File:water.png File:wind.png (Fire.png got reverted back from someone)) to the attributes page but they got reverted. The current File:Fire.png should be renamed to creditsFire.png by an admin.
My goal would be to make a new "DeckList" that shows up something like this:

Template:Manga card

D Team Zexal card information is something I'm unsure what to do with. {{Manga card}} exists because cards from the other manga series tend to be different from their OCG counterparts. So we can document them separately and have less conflicting information. But as far as I know, the cards used in D Team are the exact same as their OCG counterparts, which makes the separation pointless. And cards that appear in both D Team and another manga series could have conflicting properties.

But I'm at a loss as to where D Team chapter appearances should be documented. If you still think they should go on {{Manga card}}, please say so. -- Deltaneos (talk) 20:34, June 21, 2014 (UTC)

Large set of deletions

There are a large set of redirects that need deleting, because they are theoretical setcodes which correspond the a series of sets being released in a language they were not. Rather than tagging them individually, I figured it would be more efficient to ask an admin directly.

Specifically, I am requesting that Spanish setcode redirects for all sets in the Champion Pack series from Champion Pack: Game Three (CP03-SP001 through to CP03-SP020) up to and including Champion Pack: Game Eight (CP08-SP001 through to CP08-SP020) be deleted. These sets were not released in Spanish, something which can be verified using the official card database. --SnorlaxMonster 07:31, June 22, 2014 (UTC)

Card Page Redesign?

Honest answer; it's on indefinite hiatus. I should have focused on it more when I was more active. While I'd love to see it rolled out, I just can't prioritise it anymore.

Main card pages were like Gemini Elf (temp) last I was working on it. I wanted to move all non-OCG/TCG info to their own pages first. "Card Name (Bandai)", "Card Name (FMR)", "Card Name (manga)" etc. So that info doesn't get lost when the main pages get converted to the new format.

Problems:

  • I was last working on creating separate pages for manga card e.g. Swordstalker (manga). There's a few things about that format I'm not too happy about, such as the "Decks" section.
  • Indecisiveness every step of the way.
  • I'm unsure about how to handle all the video game cards that have the exact same effect as their OCG/TCG selves.

Problem/benefit:

  • We'll probably be getting Scribunto in the near future, which should make the code a hundred times cleaner, but would require rewriting a lot of things. I have barely looked into how to use this. Dinoguy might have more knowledge than me on this.

On this monster's Tips page, it is said:

"Activate 'Skill Drain' before this card is Summoned, in order to negate its effects. However, if you activate 'Skill Drain' after this card is Summoned, this card will be unaffected by it."

Is this correct? I mean, the effect that makes it immune to Spell/Trap Cards is a Continuous Effect, so what's the difference between activating Skill Drain before or after it is Normal Summoned?

Manga galleries

Sorry we haven't talked in a while, Del, but nice job on those manga card galleries, Del! Planning anything else similar when you're done with them? By the way, I didn't know Arkana's doll monster was called "Malice Doll of Demise" in the manga; is this an indication that Malice Doll of Demise is intended to be the same card as Doll of Demise, and it was just released a lot later than its debut? Well, I would like to do the same for the spin-off manga series, the anime arcs and all the video games, but realistically, I don't think I'll have time.

"Doll of Demise" only got the "Malice" in its English manga name. The Japanese anime and manga versions of the card are both simply "Doll of Demise". But there have been several cases where Japanese names have changed / cards been replaced between manga, anime and OCG.

I think they decided it was best to ensure the anime and OCG versions had different names, since they had different effects. Despite the fact that this often meant the manga and anime versions would have different names, while having the same effects or lack of. And I don't know why they decided to do it for some, but not all.

Yes, they are. Please revert all changes. I doubt that there will be new content unless Yu-Gi-Oh! BAM Mobile introduce something new. The pages aren't all "updated" (cost and selling price of Blazing Wind cards, missing Arena cards, etc.) but please lock all pages related to Yu-Gi-Oh! BAM. Duel Monsters

The games with Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters in their Japanese title. They seem to have later adopted the English releases naming convention and used World Championship in their titles.

Basically, the Nintendo handheld games, where the players play Duel Monsters. But now that I think about it, the following might count too:

I could be wrong, but I think:

  • DM1 to DM4, WC 2004, WC 2006 and WC 2007 have no story. You just pick opponents from a list and unlock more opponents by doing different things.
  • DM5 (EDS) and DM6/DMI (SDD) have kinda stories.
  • DM7 (TSC), DM8 (ROD) and WC 2008 have their own independent stories.
  • WC 2009 to WC 2011 (The 5D's games) might be safe to consider to be all be the one story.
  • Most of the games with a story mode, also have a World Championship mode, which is basically the same format as the games mentioned in the first bullet.

If the EDS and SDD stories aren't worth creating more character articles for, we can just have:

  • "Character Name (The Sacred Cards)"
  • "Character Name (Reshef of Destruction)"
  • "Character Name (World Championship)" for everything else. I don't think it will cause any conflicts.

Apologies for the late reply. I'm not entirely sure about the older games as I have only ever played The Sacred Cards, but I do know that Mai is "active" in the storyline (I vaguely remember running into her a few times, and she's in the Battle City finals where she is defeated by Malik). mod requests and chat hacks

Are you referring to any specific chat hacks? Most likely they are added by JavaScript. As hacks are by nature unstable, I think it's advised that wikis don't enable them by default. Individual users can still add them to their own JavaScript pages; Special:MyPage/common.js for just this wiki or wikia:c:c:Special:MyPage/global.js for all wikis. But the user should be aware that the hacks could potentially cause problems in future, before doing so.

wikia:c:c:User:Monchoman45/ChatHacks.js are the only chat hacks, I'm aware of. You can use them by adding this code to one of the .js pages I've liked to.

They haven't been updated in over a year, so I can't guarantee they all still work.

Admins can give the chatmoderator permission to users. But to see what users can use the permission responsibly, the potential moderators would either have to be regular wiki users or the admin would have to spend a lot of time in chat. But I don't think that's something any of the active administrators are particularly interested in doing.

Hi, I am interested in making a fanon wiki of the Yu gi oh where I take existing cards and change their types. Like taking an effect monster and presenting it as fusion. Hello, and welcome to the wiki! You don't need our permission to start a new wiki, though you should be aware that getting a wiki up and running is typically more work than most people realize. There's also likely to already be several wikis focusing on Yu-Gi-Oh! fanon - you may want to spend some time looking around and seeing what there is before creating a new wiki. Central of yu-gi-oh communities

Hi , I 'm a big fan of the wiki and ADM of Portuguese wiki. I recently had an idea, which was create a wikia and / or pages on social networks , where all yugioh communities in all countries and languages, with all variants (per example the wiki decks and the wiki yugioh questions) for wikis can communicate more easily with each other , for projects together , to help each other .... etc .

This project would have the name given in the title and would only serve to communicate , not as an encyclopedia of yugioh

Right now, I'm also contact the other wikis.

Reconstructed Lores to Anime card Pages

Yeah, I think so. It's a major setting. It's an element of the RPG, but not the RPG itself. There's stuff we can cover on the world page, but not the RPG page and vice-versa. I've avoided creating that page myself before, because pinning down precise details on anything from that arc is a very tedious task. Yu-jyo summary

I didn't put that there, but I've been meaning to ask about those; currently, the web host for that site is just keeping it up for as long as he can, but when he's no longer able to, would it be a good idea to get in contact with him and request to host the summaries on the wiki after he eventually takes the site down? There's no harm in asking him. But anything published here is considered to be in the Creative Commons (cc-by-sa 3.0 more specifically), unless quoted or acknowledged as being anything else.

As far as giving him credit goes:

  • To use them on episode pages as the summary, it would have to be released into the Creative Commons, other people would be free to make changes to it, making him just one of many authors. Crediting him would only extend to him being mentioned in the page history when his version gets copied over.
  • If the summaries were copied verbatim onto pages/sections, left verbatim and acknowledged as being quoted from another publisher, then he could be credited on the page itself, assuming he's okay with that. But I'm not sure Wikia would approve of this site being used that way.

One other thing we could do is link to his summaries in an "external links" section. And if his site ever is taken down, link to them through an archive site.

I really admire the work he's done. And I wouldn't want him to have to abdicate any of his rights to it just to keep it online. -- Deltaneos (talk) 22:39, December 11, 2015 (UTC)
