Decks for Free! Test[edit]

So, 3 of the deckbuilders will come here, and post a deck they would like you to make. After you've finished that deck, post it up on the page of the deckbuilder that asked for it. After you've posted all 3, the deckbuilders will discuss and let you know if you can be a part of DFF.

Ace's Trial: Build me a competitive Space Ship Deck using the Konami Arcade Games cards.

BobaFett2's Trial: Make me a Cake...but seriously, a The Judgement Hand Deck. I know, it sounds ridiculous, but I want to build one in real life - and it's a rather awesome card, being Level 3, Normal, EARTH, and Warrior Type, plus having enough ATK to be searchable, so it has a lot of support. BF2 Talk Deck Guides 14:12, January 29, 2012 (UTC)

Lappy's Trial: I've got 99 problems, but building a Morphtronic Deck ain't one of them. Unfortunately for you, you can't say the same. Lappyzard (talkcontribs) 16:57, January 29, 2012 (UTC)

Test Results[edit]

Congratulations! You have passed our DFF deckbuilder examination! We (BF2, Ace, and Lappyzard) have decided to give you the privilege of becoming one of DFF's Deckbuilders, however we do this with some warnings about your decks/card choices.

  • Space Ship Deck:
  • Use 3 British Lord as he is very versatile and 3 Shining Angel, as Spaceships need to be able to toolbox the exact Spaceship needed for the invasion.
  • Use 2 United We Stand and 1-2 Break! Draw! instead of Lance. Ships need long-lasting power to be battle ready.
  • Use of 3 Mystical Space Typhoon is needed to clear away barriers that may hinder the invasion, 2 is fine if 3 British Lord is used, but your fleet had only 2.
  • The tuner(s) and tuner support cards aren't needed.
  • 1-2 Enemy Controller is good as well if room can be made.
  • Morphtronics:
  • Morphtronics Decks have a lot of different ways they can be built, but there should always be a focus. For example, you can focus on using Boarden/Magnen and Bind to lock your opponent while you Burn them with Wave-Motion Cannon, Datatron, and Clocken. Your deck lacks a real focus.
  • Equip Spells (namely, Double Tool C&D) should not be used outside of an Equip focused build.
  • Machine Duplication is an excellent card for most Morphtronic Decks, whether you use it to establish a Boarden lock or take advantage of Celfon's swarming power for Synch/Xyz plays.
  • Morphtronic Forcefield is a bit too situational, as the only cards it really hits now are Dark Hole, Mirror Force, and Torrential Tribute. In all cases, Starlight Road is a better choice, and even that isn't needed in most builds.
  • The Trap lineup needs staples, such as Solemn Judgment, Solemn Warning, and Trap Dustshoot.
  • Avenging Knight Parshath and the second Ancient Sacred Wyvern are very unusual Extra Deck choices. One Wyvern is good, but the second is unneeded.
  • The Judgement Hand:
  • Needs Solemn Judgment/Solemn Warning/Trap Dustshoot/Mirror Force.

Sincerely, the DFF Staff.

Lappyzard (talkcontribs) 20:18, February 6, 2012 (UTC)

I hope you like the result, we let you in, because overall your decks were good, some mishaps here and there, but overall good. Remember if you seem to have issues with a deck, you can ask any vet. deckbuilder. Anyway, I've added you username to our list of staff on the main DFF page. Your're free to take any available request (Try to give priority to everything above request number 35 aka "Stardust Dragon deck"), just remember to add your tag to the Header. Also, please tell me what you would like you tag to be, that way I can add it into the Rules section, or you can add it into rule 19. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 02:42, February 7, 2012 (UTC)

DFF Deckbuilder Application Section[edit]

Seeing as we seem to be getting more and more requests for Deckbuilders, I think we should create an Application section on the Main DFF page, under our staff section. This section would let users post a quick request for deckbuilder status and let them give us a reason they want to join, then 3 of us would go do the trial. We would of course discuss in "that" place. Thoughts on this idea? ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 02:46, March 1, 2012 (UTC)

Check this for me. Forum:Decks for Free!/Criteria and Application and Forum:Decks for Free!/Application Turn-In Center. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 01:16, March 2, 2012 (UTC)

Should we reopen DFF? We have under 25 requests, and if we open up, I can probably take 1-2 of the ones that are on hold. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 00:51, March 3, 2012 (UTC)

It Works[edit]

Yeah, we already have applications! They seem good, so far. Anyway, test User:Destroyer Gandora 808. Go to:Forum:Decks for Free!/Application Turn-In Center to see the Application, and who I assigned to test him. Sorry, if I'm acting bossy. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 14:17, March 3, 2012 (UTC)

Post up your WDC deck, I made the sections. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 14:43, March 3, 2012 (UTC)

Could you maybe give Gandora a budget type deck with a sub-par archetype? ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 16:40, March 3, 2012 (UTC)

Also, please give a deck to User:Jensc. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 20:14, March 3, 2012 (UTC)

Decks for Free! Test - Sacred Crane Deck[edit]

I've always thought of Sacred Crane as a handy tech and less of a reason to base a deck on it, but with the reliability of Blackwings and the further access to BLS and Chaos, this seemed more reliable than Dragunities. AEtherchild (talkcontribs) 12:02, March 10, 2012 (UTC)

Some questions about the DFF contest[edit]

Hi, I recently participated in the contest that allowed new members to the DFF, but unfortunately I failed the tests. I respect your opinion(s) but I would like some explanation about the reasons you gave. I don't want to whine but I'm just curious.

Amazonian Deck:

Lacking Amazoness Swords Woman

Don't think that she is that good, but that is just my opinion.

3 Amazoness Queen is a bit much - 2 is fine

Well, she is the only tribute monster in the deck, so I felt that running 3 wouldn't be a problem

Lone Ultimate Offering, isn't needed, and if you wanted to run it, run it at 2.

Didn't feel it was a necessity either which is exactly why I only ran one. Why should I run either 2 or 0?

Bottomless Trap Hole over Solemn Warning, when there was no budget.

free over 2000 life points, but ok, you may be right.

No Dark Hole/MST/Torrential

This is all about staples, I dislike Dark Hole, Heavy Storm is usually enough s/t removal and Torrential isn't that good IMO. And this hasn't anything to do with the deck itself, I paid little attention to cards that go in every deck.

Don't like Amazoness Archers, and Dimensional Prison is better.

You wanted a Amazoness deck...

Hope to get a response from you

Kind Regards Jens (talkcontribs) 17:19, March 12, 2012 (UTC)

DFF Issue - Getting Our House in Order?[edit]

Some of the posters have been recently posting that I've been the only one doing requests. Now that's kinda true, but I know some of your reasons for this. Now I have a few propositions to make:

  • Issue 1: We have a backlog of requests again, so is there any way you guys could be on more/comment more on DFF Applicants, so we can hire new people? Also, what do you guys think about possibly taking on "Deckbuilder Apprentices"? They would just be people who applied and that we personally think would have potential later?
  • Issue 2: We have a huge backlog of Decks in the Archive that should be moved into the Galleries, so why not hire people to specifically move the Decks into the Galleries?
  • Issue 3: Do we need 3 people to do the trials? I personally think 2 should be good.
  • Issue 4: Should we ever make the "Dark Sun" public? Sometimes it's important for people to know what we think, and sometime the raw comments and better than our soft-cake comments?
Just Reply back with the "DFF Issue" header followed by your name, that way I can follow it easier.

---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 22:36, March 20, 2012 (UTC)

As it stands:

Issue 1: 4/5 Deckbuilders would like to have Apprentices (BF2 said they wouldn't really work, I kinda see where it's coming from), as for the Activity thing, just do it when you can, no worries. Do you guys want to go with this, give me a final vote, I think we're running a Democracy, so majority.

Issue 2: 4/5 Deckbuilders (BF2 had no comment). Do you guys want to add this, give me a final vote, I think we're running a Democracy, so majority.

Issue 3: Vetoed

Issue 4: Vetoed, but it was suggested that we more the Sun outside of Wikia Servers, thoughts?

Anyway, I'll set up a Vote Count on my talk page, under the DFF Section.

DFF Deck[edit]

As part of my return, made up some of the decks that were unfinished, but noticed one I did was one you were working upon, so figured rather than discard it, I'd pass it to you to take a glance at, if you care :p

http://imgur.com/pQ7mu

I assume it's obvious enough :p, but eh if you've got a different build, just go for it,

Psych Deck[edit]

Just wondering if you had that Psychic Counter deck done, if not, we can just use Resk's. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 02:34, April 9, 2012 (UTC)

Anyway, I'll post up Resk's build for now, then you can post up your version later. This way we can keep the poster happy and still give him a choice, but I won't post up Resk's build unless your ok with it. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 02:44, April 9, 2012 (UTC)

That's Resk's build, I just had to swap out 1 card in the extra since there are no Psychic non-tuners. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 02:49, April 9, 2012 (UTC)

Cool, cool. No worries. I haven't been very active either, I have high school stuff to do. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 02:12, April 11, 2012 (UTC)

Re: Trying to be a Ninja?[edit]

Drop 1 Red-Eyes Wyvern, since you have both Ravine and Future Fusion, add in a Solemn Judgment, or Foolish if you think you need another mill outlet. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 22:15, June 20, 2012 (UTC)

Light pulsar is good, but you have basically 0 Darks you would want to Banish. Maybe a Tour Guide Trio, if you want? But if you've tested the deck, and feel like it works, then I have nothing to say. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 22:18, June 20, 2012 (UTC)
Your call on Pulsar, I used him at 2 in my old Ravine Chaos build. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 23:50, June 20, 2012 (UTC)

WDC[edit]

Hey, thanks for volunteering to help out with the WDC. If I were to set up a General Forum post each competition, how would you go about advertising it to other people? I think if we can get a decent number of people knowing about it, we can start running it, but I really, really don't want to just have to contact people individually. my idea is posted on the Decks for Free! page. if you could check that out and help me that would be great, becuase Dark Ace is dumbfounded by it and told me to come find you so here i am.

Practice Deck[edit]

Hi Wolf. I have applied for DFF via application. I was just wondering if you could give me a practice deck to make please? I have made a couple for Ace and I haven't done too badly with them. He would like your opinion as well.

Thanks!!

P.S. Best of luck at the Nationals!! ----SuperSponge!!(Talk)(About me) 17:22, June 30, 2012 (UTC)

On another note...I didn't even know you were going to nats, so (late) good luck man. Anyway, when you have some spare time, just give him like 1 deck to do, I've already kinda covered him with a few practice decks. Give your thoughts at that place. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 02:52, July 2, 2012 (UTC)

Deck Builder Test[edit]

As you can see for your Genex build i chose Mist Valley Genex. I've only lost a 2 or 3 times with this deck. Pimpedoutsquash (talkcontribs) 20:15, June 30, 2012 (UTC)

Mist Valley Control Deck[edit]

This deck does look a little messy at first glance. It isn't a 'pure' Mist Valley Deck. I didn't have a lot of time this week. It has been rather consistent though. ----SuperSponge!!(Talk)(About me) 16:50, July 7, 2012 (UTC)

This should be better. I made bold the added cards --SuperSponge!! 19:05, July 9, 2012 (UTC)

This deck isn't a pure Mist Valley Deck. I thought that the pure Archetype was a little slow so I added a few Mist Valley cards but with the added speed of "Tour Guide from the Underworld".
I added "Swords of Revealing Light" to act as a good stopper, in case I got a bad hand, and a good card to recycle due to the effect of "Mist Valley Falcon". This is the same principal with "Fiendish Chain" and "Call of the Haunted" which you rightfully suggested.
"Flying Kamakiri 1" was reduced to one as there were not many WIND monsters which fulfilled it's requirements, and this left room to add "Mist Valley Thunderbird". This card speeds up the deck significantly as I can return it to my hand, and then Special Summon it. This makes for a nice Synchro Summon or Xyz summon. BLS is there to add more firepower. This deck doesn't exactly have much 'Main Deck' umph. That comes from the Extra Deck and from "Mist Valley Falcon".
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask me. Thanks.--SuperSponge!! 06:37, July 11, 2012 (UTC)

Re: Alien/Worm Deck[edit]

How has it been playing? ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 02:44, July 10, 2012 (UTC)

I'll look into the Archetypes a bit more. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 02:46, July 10, 2012 (UTC)
Hmm, I think your trying to revive him using Call of the Haunted? Why not try Damage = Reptile or Damage Gate. It's extremely risky, but gives you a quick way to summon Vennominon the King of Poisonous Snakes. In the even that you can't think of anything, I'll take it away from you Thursday night. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 00:07, July 11, 2012 (UTC)
But before that, want to reply to the Falcon deck that was posted above? ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 00:11, July 11, 2012 (UTC)

I made the following.

Kinda thrown together in a way, but they Worms and Aliens just don't want to work together. HEROES and Aliens work together, but not Worms and Aliens. Or we could go pure Alien? ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 02:00, July 11, 2012 (UTC)

I abandoned the Worms in the above deck. Personally, a pure Alien deck, give you more easy access to Alien Overlord, not that amazing, but it's more A-Counter generation. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 03:07, July 11, 2012 (UTC)

Well, the Decree I can pop at will with Scrap Dragon, I probably will drop the Tengu. I think 3 Yard just helps with drawing into the damned thing. The Meklords, ehh, I guess I could drop Granel to minimize dead draws. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 18:47, July 17, 2012 (UTC)

Number 7: Lucky Straight Deck Trial[edit]

As Machinas had a level 7 boss monster that was extremely easy to summon, I decided to go down that route. Fusilier was another good option for obvious reasons. And, in tandem with Shackles and Duplication, that was instant "Lucky 7". And, you can't have Machinas without their little buddies the Gadgets, so I incorporated them and realized the Queen's Light would also help in conjunction with Offering. Hope you find it adequate. :) Xerdek! (talkcontribs) 04:22, July 18, 2012 (UTC)

Partners? ^^[edit]

Yo, you've seen my Gem-Knights, and I think they'd be great for the next contest. Maybe if you could make a Gishki, Laval, Flamvell, or even Gusto deck to compliment it, we could have a neat combo. All 4 of those benefit from the draw engine I use, and can even run some similar cards. Of course, if you can think of another archetype, that's great too, but those were the 4 that stood out to me. Tag team turbo? haha Synchro Maniac10 (talkcontribs) 01:11, May 11, 2013 (UTC)

If you already have an idea, then we can roll with it. Otherwise, I'll see if I can get another partner. Just thought it'd be a good idea. Synchro Maniac10 (talkcontribs) 19:14, May 11, 2013 (UTC)
Personally, I think we'll be fine though, considering my deck is pretty much done already, aside from maybe a few adjustments based on the deck you make. Just let me know, and I think we can make this work together. Synchro Maniac10 (talkcontribs) 19:35, May 11, 2013 (UTC)
Sounds great, because I'm very familiar with Gishki too, so this should be fun! Only question is...Level 6,8, or 10 build? haha Each have their own merits. And there's an archetype that can work with a Level 6 build too...(and I don't mean Hieratics). Synchro Maniac10 (talkcontribs) 20:40, May 13, 2013 (UTC)
DN. Now. Haha I actually had an idea that, as far as I know, I created. Not sure how it'd work, though. Synchro Maniac10 (talkcontribs) 22:31, May 13, 2013 (UTC)
