"Hanako the Naruto" is the twenty-third episode of the Yu-Gi-Oh! GO RUSH!! anime. It first aired in Japan on September 4, 2022.

In a town under the underground area, known as "Under-Underground Town", Yuhi and co. find a tsukemen restaurant in an alley. They see that they can get one free drink, so they go inside the restaurant and enjoy some exquisite tsukemen made by Menjaburo Omori. However, Menjaburo's true identity is actually...

Summary[edit]

As the train leaves without them, Yuhi asks Yuamu what the Space Treasure is and Yuamu reminds him she told him not to worry about it, though Yuhi isn't willing to accept that as an answer, remembering Rovian accusing them of wanting to find it and asking again what it is. Yuamu explains that she recently learned a group of aliens hid a pile of treasure under Mutsuba Town, something she'd previously thought to be urban legend but became convinced it existed after learning of the Alien Residential Area. She notes that the Rovian Bandits must be after it too and seethes over Rovian having the nerve to get angry about them "Dueling in a calculated plan, stripped of freedom and only for personal gain", getting fired up and declaring she won't stand for it either. Yuhi reminds her they need to be rescuing Yudias, though Manya protests the train will arrive any moment. Yuhi replies that he doesn't care, vowing to rescue Yudias alone if he has to, and Valvelgear shakes in Yuhi's arms, the Velgearians crying Yudias' name. Yuamu whispers her brother's name and Bochi praises Yuhi's willingness to lay his life down for his friend. Manya agrees, but warns they need to return before the last train and that they'll likely run right into their pursuers if they retrace their steps, so she asks Bochi if there's another way to Badloon Castle. Bochi looks around and confirms there is, pointing out a door at the end of the station.

The door leads to an elevator that takes them a large distance down and leaves Yuhi nervous, but eventually it arrives at a shopping district, much to the twins' admiration. As Yuamu expresses shock over a place like this existing underground, Bochi explains the town, Under-Underground Town, is largely used as a transport hub (prompting Yuamu to dub it "under-under-underground") and Manya explains Bochi previously lived here, much to the twins' surprise. Bochi confirms he did, claiming the humans were all afraid of his Wicked Fist of the Beloved Dog, though Manya claims his technique isn't that great. As the twins explore they smell something delicious and follow it down an alleyway to a tsukemen restaurant. The twins are both eager to eat, but Yuhi shakes himself out of it since they need to find Yudias...and then Yuamu spots a deal: a Limited Time Offer where the first bowl is free, which is enough to convince the twins. Manya meanwhile takes note of the restaurant selling tsukemen.

Once they're inside, Yuamu points out they need to rescue Yudias, but can't do so on an empty stomach and Yuhi agrees, while Manya takes note of how clean the store is and comments that the chef must be good. The blue-haired chef greets them and asks what he can get them, and Yuhi orders tsukemen with soy sauce, Bochi one with miso (claiming it to be the ultimate choice for tsukemen), Manya one with tonkotsu and Yuamu one with salted veggies. Their orders taken, the chef moves into action and cooks so quickly there seem to be multiples, expertly sliding their orders to them. The four dig in, eagerly devouring the delicious tsukemen, Yuamu expressing admiration hers contains broccoli and Manya taking notice, then sipping her broth, commenting that it has a strong flavor, yet isn't too rich, while Valvelgear peers out of Yuhi's bag. Once they're finished, the twins and Bochi all express satisfaction with their meal and all four of them ask for seconds, the chef immediately obliging. Though the kids and Bochi are amazed by the chef's speed, he asks them to eat slowly, but privately thinks all is going according to plan: they will continue to eat until they can't due to the mysterious deliciousness of the food.

On cue Yuhi asks for another, but Bochi asks for four more, so the chef obliges...and continues to cook and cook until the dishes pile up and he's exhausted. He's shocked at the appetites of the group, who once again politely ask for more as Valvelgear wobbles behind them, and turns to cook more...but he's out of noodles and soup. The chef bends over the counter as the group sip their drinks and asks in shock how they've eaten so much, but the platters before them still have food, much to his surprise. Yuhi and Yuamu claim they wanted everyone to have some tsukemen and right on cue Valvelgear takes a platter and beams it inside it, then ejects a clean one. The chef asks if the ship eats too, but Yuamu and Yuhi explain the ones eating are the 8.88 million people inside Valvelgear, the Velgearians inside cheering "Gamen, gamen, vari gamen" as they eat. The chef is shocked to learn so many people are in the ship and protests there's no way he can make that much, Yuamu not helping their case by pointing out the first bowl per person is free. The chef agilely leaps to block the door, snapping that he should make them into broth, much to the group's surprise, and he rips off his black kimono to reveal red ninja garb, introducing himself as Menjaburo Omori and claiming to work for Yuna. The group gasp and Yuamu asks if he's one of the Rovian Bandits: Menjaburo confirms he is and vows not to let them reach Badloon Castle. Yuhi stands up, declaring they're going to rescue Yudias, and Menjaburo tells them they'll have to defeat him in a Rush Duel if they want to leave as he takes out his Deck. The twins seem surprised, but Yuhi's ready to accept the challenge.

However Manya declares that she'll take this Duel, much to their surprise, and she comments that Menjaburo's noodles were good but lacked charm, much to his shock. Thw twins aren't sure what's going on, so Bochi explains Manya is playing the role of Hanako, clarifying it was a movie she starred in called Hanako the Naruto where the main character is a genius child chef who saves a tsukemen shop of the verge of collapse and Manya declares that she will make a bouquet of tsukemen flower if it cannot bloom. Bochi declares it to be Hanako's catchphrase, impressing Yuamu and confusing Yuhi, while Menjaburo deduces this to be a Duel with their tsukemen honor on the line and opens the door, suggesting they take this outside. They adjorn to the alleyway, Manya introducing herself as Manya Atachi playing the role of Hanako the Naruto, and Menjaburo as Menjaburo Omori, and they both insert their Decks into their Duel Disks to deploy the blades, calling "Go Rush!!" as the green holographic dome appears around them.

Manya declares her turn and Hanako the Naruto's draw, adding the "Demi-glace Dark Witch" she drew to her hand, which also contains "Water Cutter", "Hashiage", "Spirit of the Soup" and "Miso Omotics". She Summons "Miso Omotics", "Demi-glace Dark Witch", and "Spirit of the Soup". Yuhi is surprised the monsters are themed around soup, miso and demi-glace and Yuamu comments they're a bunch of foodie monsters. Bochi explains they're FIRE Attribute Aqua Type monsters and Yuhi asks if Manya used WATER Aqua Type monsters previously. Bochi reminds them Hanako the Naruto is Dueling, not Manya, though the twins are unamused. Manya Sets two cards, ending her turn.

Menjaburo declares his turn and a Cold noodraw, adding the "Masked Noodle Broth Tsuke Mendius" he drew to his hand (which also contains "Noodle Mask of Unappetizing", "Tsukemaro the Noodle Noble" and two "Shirumaro the Noodle Noble") and then Summoning "Tsukemaro the Noodle Noble" and "Shirumaro the Noodle Noble". Yuhi notes they're WATER Pyro Type monsters, which Yuamu comments are the exact opposite of Manya's FIRE Aqua Type monsters and Yuhi complains it's confusing. Manya activates a Trap Card, "Hashiage", returning "Demi-glace Dark Witch" to her hand and gaining 400 LP for each Aqua Type monster she controls, then changing "Miso Omotics" and "Spirit of the Soup" into Defense Position as her LP rise to 4800. Menjaburo claims that it's a sign of weakness to be defensive, though Manya dismisses his claims as a simple way of thinking with which he cannot make good tsukemen soup. Menjaburo wonders about that, Tributing his two monsters and chanting "1: Love noodles with your whole heart! 2: Ninjas also love noodles! 3: Love noodles more than three meals a day! 4: I am filled with happiness for loving noodles! 5: Even as an afternoon snack, I love noodles! Masked Noodle Broth Tsuke Mendius! Tribute Summon!"

Yuhi and Yuamu gasp that it has 2500 ATK and Menjaburo places one card from his hand on the bottom of his Deck, then sends two cards from the top of his Deck to the Graveyard to activate the effect, allowing it to inflict piercing battle damage this turn and then add "The Noodle Mask of Ghost Peppers" from his Graveyard to his hand - an Equip Spell Card he equips to "Tsuke Mendius", which dons a flaming mask made of pepper and rises to 3300 ATK. Manya notes that Menjaburo also uses Equip Spells and Yuhi asks if everyone in the Rovian Bandits uses them while Yuamu admits it was a good move by the tsukemen ninja. Menjaburo Sets a card, then orders "Tsuke Mendius" to engulf his enemies in its spicy hot dipping sauce with "Flaming Noodles Aqua Splash". "Tsuke Mendius" blasts sauce and noodles at the zero DEF "Miso Omotics", destroying her and reducing Manya to 1500 LP in an instant, much to the twins' horror. Menjaburo ends his turn and Manya lands on her feet, commenting that the attack had quite the flavor, but Menjaburo is mistaken if he thinks that will be all it takes to defeat Hanako the Naruto.

She declares her turn and Hanako the Naruto's draw, her hand now containing "Demi-glace Dark Witch", "Gourmaid", "Spirit of the Soup", "Hashiage", and "Maizeful Charity". She activates the Spell Card "Maizeful Charity", drawing two cards ("Dian Keto the Gourmet Maiden" and "Gourmetropolis") and then placing one from her hand on the bottom of her Deck, "Spirit of the Soup". Next she Summons "Gourmaid" and "Demi-glace Dark Witch", activating the effect of "Gourmaid" to return "Miso Omotics" from her Graveyard to her hand, then Tributing "Spirit of the Soup" and "Gourmaid" to Tribute Summon, chanting "I, beloved by the gods of tsukemen. You, beloved by the gods of gourmet. If we join our powers together, we will have nothing to fear! It's our cue! Dian Keto the Gourmet Maiden!" Yuamu observes that it's "Dian Keto the Gourmet Maiden" this time as Manya activates the Field Spell Card "Gourmetropolis", creating a night-lit city of buildings topped with food sculptures and Manya explains that Level 8 Aqua Type monsters cannot be destroyed while they are in Attack Position, though the unimpressed Menjaburo points out the only monster Manya has that fulfills that condition is "Dian Keto". Manya then discards a card to activate the effect of "Dian Keto", gaining 1000 LP and then increasing the ATK of "Keto" by 300 for each face-up Spell Card on the field until the end of the turn. Yuamu notes in this case both the Field Spell and Equip Spell will count, and Yuhi realizes that "Keto" will gain 600 ATK, bringing her to 3100 ATK. Then Manya activates her face-down Spell Card "Water Cutter" to destroy a Spell or Trap Card that Menjaburo controls, and the Spell blasts water from it as Manya declares she'll destroy "The Noodle Mask of Ghost Peppers", the mask shattering as "Tsuke Mendius" is thrown backwards, returning it to 2500 ATK as Menjaburo cries "What?!" Manya claims to see right through Menjaburo and Sets a card, then politely asks "Keto" to attack "Masked Noodle Broth Tsuke Mendius" with "C'est Bon Delicious Epicurean Blades", and "Keto" slings green energy blades at "Tsuke Mendius", shattering the noodles it holds and then destroying it, reducing Menjaburo to 3400 LP. Then "Demi-glace Dark Witch" attacks Menjaburo directly, slinging hot soup at Menjaburo that he barely dodges as he falls to 1900 LP. Manya ends her turn, returning the ATK of "Keto" to normal.

Menjaburo admits Manya got him and Manya reminds him she can see right through him. Menjaburo challenges her to guess the ingredients of the dipping sauce she just ate and Manya claims it's easy as she visualizes herself being submerged in the sauce, claiming it contained pork, chicken bones, konbu, bonito flakes, salt, sake, and soy sauce, as well as ginger, garlic, and green onions likely exported from Nanahoshi Village. Menjaburo gasps that she hit the bullseye and Manya adds that carrots, apples and onions were likely responsible for the faint sweetness which Menjaburo confirms is also correct, though he claims Manya has still missed one more secret ingredient, much to her shock, and comments that it's hysterical she can claim to see through him.

He declares his turn and a tuskemen draw, drawing five cards: another "Shirumaro" and "Tsukemaro", "Draining of the Masked Noodle Broth", "The Masuhodo Noodle Broth", and "Noodle Mask of Gluttony". He Summons "Tsukemaro" and "Shirumaro", then sends them both to the Graveyard to activate the Spell Card "Draining of the Masked Noodle Broth", chanting "6: I love rock noodles! 7: I love strangely shaped noodles! 8: I love even broken noodles! 9: I always love noodles on holidays! 10: In the eleventh hour, I love noodles! The Masuhodo Noodle Broth! Special Summon!" "The Masuhodo Noodle Broth" has 2500 ATK, but gains 700 ATK until the end of the turn due to "Draining of the Masked Noodle Broth". Manya promptly returns "Demi-glace Dark Witch" to her hand to activate "Hashiage", gaining 400 LP and bringing her back to 2900 LP. Menjaburo sends the top three cards of his Deck to the Graveyard to activate his face-down "Noodle Mask of Unappetizing", reducing the ATK of "Dian Keto" by 200 times the Level of "The Masuhodo Noodle Broth". Manya yelps in shock as "Dian Keto" falls to 900 ATK and Menjaburo pays 1000 LP to activate the Equip Spell "Noodle Mask of Gluttony", equipping it to "The Masuhodo Noodle Broth" and increasing its ATK by 1000, to 4200, as Manya gasps the ATK increase. Yuhi is shocked Menjaburo has two Equip Spells and Yuamu notes this is bad, so the twins whisper to Bochi that they're going to sneak off now.

Manya comments that it's been a while since she had such a springy Duel and Bochi sidles along beside her with paper fans, cheering Manya on as the Ohdo twins hide. Menjaburo declares this is the end and prepares to attack, but Manya asks if he doesn't want to hear her guess about the secret ingredient, stunning Menjaburo at the thought she might know it. Manya takes her time to answer so the twins can sneak away, and claims it's broccoli, much to Menjaburo's dismay, who admits she's correct. He falls to his knees and wonders how she could have known: Manya had remembered Yuamu mentioning how unusual it was to have broccoli in the dipping sauce and Manya had deduced there had to have been a reason, that Menjaburo had included the broccoli stem in the dipping sauce. Menjaburo admits she has truly tasted it all and claims it all stemmed from when he first met Yuna, who served him a head of broccoli at Ramen Hut when he asked for miso tsukemen, and who threw naruto slices in his eyes when he protested; when the slices fell, Menjaburo saw them decorating the broccoli head beautifully. He had been in search of the most delicious tsukemen, but vowed never to forget that day. Manya comments that Yuna made Menjaburo bloom into a tsukemen flower, though Bochi questions whether tsukemen without noodles is even tsukemen. Menjaburo declares the finishing blow, attacking "Dian Keto the Gourmet Maiden" with "The Masuhodo Noodle Broth's" "Healthy Extreme Noodle Induction Flame", "The Masuhodo Noodle Broth" blasting noodles that wrap up "Dian Keto" and then swallowing the resulting bundle whole, reducing Manya to zero LP.

Manya hits the ground with a cry, but praises the Duel and claims it an honor for Hanako the Naruto to lose to Menjaburo. Menjaburo sighs in relief over protecting his honor, but then Manya claps and calls "Cut!" much to his surprise, Manya admitting she hasn't gone all out for a while as Bochi applauds. Menjaburo finally notices the twins are missing and asks where they went, and Manya cheerfully tells him they went to Badloon Castle. Menjaburo slumps over his failure, realizing he has won the Duel but lost the match. He calls Manya by her character's name before correcting himself and addressing her by her proper name, vowing to remember her, and Manya smiles.

At Badloon Castle, Yuhi and Yuamu successfully reach the clothesline and take down the Yudias shirt, Yuhi whispering his name and vowing to return him to normal. Yuamu hears someone coming and whispers that this is bad, and the twins run as a tall Rovian Bandit spots them leaving. Two more Bandits arrive asking where the intruders are, but the taller one only turns in another direction, which the two Bandits run towards.

However when they reunite with Manya and Bochi, they've missed the last train home, and Yuamu admits Mr. Tazaki and the others must be worried about them. But then they hear Manabu's voice calling to them as he and Nyandestar approach on a handcar. Yuamu is overjoyed to see them, while Manya is pleased they came, and Nyandestar thanks them for waiting for them. The twins thank them and the handcar stops, Nyandestar telling them to hurry and get on, much to their surprise. The exhausted Manabu slumps to the handcar's floor, protesting he's tired enough as it is, so Yuhi and Bochi agree to help and take up pumping the arm, Yuhi vowing they'll definitely return Yudias to normal.

At Badloon Castle, Yuna comments that Menjaburo was too busy Dueling to stop the Ohdo twins and Menjaburo apologizes deeply. As Yuna frets over how she can face Rovian, she hears Rovian strumming her Duel Guitar and gasps her name. Rovian recites that if one digs in the back garden they shall find a woof-woof-wonderful world (the Japanese onomatopoeia for a dog's bark is "won") and Yuna praises her poem, asking if Rovian is saying that all they need to do is find that thing. Rovian barks a yes and Yuna and Menjaburo thank her for her guidance.

Featured Duel: Manya Atachi vs Menjaburo Omori[edit]

The Duel is conducted as a Rush Duel.

Turn 1: Manya
Manya's hand contains "Water Cutter", "Hashiage", "Spirit of the Soup" and "Miso Omotics". Manya draws "Demi-glace Dark Witch". Manya Normal Summons "Miso Omotics" (1400/0), "Demi-glace Dark Witch" (1500/0), and "Spirit of the Soup" (0/1400). Manya Sets two cards.

Turn 2: Menjaburo
Menjaburo's hand contains "Noodle Mask of Unappetizing", "Tsukemaro the Noodle Noble" and two copies of "Shirumaro the Noodle Noble". Menjaburo draws "Masked Noodle Broth Tsuke Mendius". Menjaburo Normal Summons "Tsukemaro the Noodle Noble" (1500/0) and "Shirumaro the Noodle Noble" (0/1500). As Menjaburo Normal or Special Summoned a monster, Manya activates her Set Trap Card "Hashiage", returning an Aqua Type monster she controls to the hand to gain 400 LP for each Aqua Type monster she controls, then she can change the battle positions of up to two face-up monsters she controls. She returns "Demi-glace Dark Witch" to her hand and changes "Miso Omotics" and "Spirit of the Soup" to face-up Defense Position (Manya: 4000 → 4800 LP). Menjaburo Tributes "Tsukemaro" and "Shirumaro" to Tribute Summon "Masked Noodle Broth Tsuke Mendius" (2500/1700). Menjaburo activates the effect of "Tsuke Mendius", placing a card from his hand on the bottom of his Deck and sending the top two cards of his Deck to the Graveyard to allow it to inflict piercing battle damage when it attacks a Defense Position monster this turn, then Menjaburo can add "The Noodle Mask of Ghost Peppers" or "Noodle Mask of Gluttony" from his Graveyard to his hand. He places "Shirumaro" from his hand on the bottom of the Deck and sends an unknown Spell Card and "The Noodle Mask of Ghost Peppers" from the top of his Deck to the Graveyard, then adds "The Noodle Mask of Ghost Peppers" from his Graveyard to his hand. Menjaburo activates the Equip Spell Card "The Noodle Mask of Ghost Peppers", equipping it to a Pyro Type monster he controls. He equips "The Noodle Mask of Ghost Peppers" to "Tsuke Mendius". The effect of "The Noodle Mask of Ghost Peppers" increases the ATK/DEF of the equipped monster by 800 ("Tsuke Mendius": 2500/1700 → 3300/2500). Menjaburo Sets a card. "Tsuke Mendius" attacks and destroys "Miso Omotics" (Manya: 4800 → 1500 LP).

Turn 3: Manya
Manya's hand contains "Demi-glace Dark Witch", "Gourmaid", "Spirit of the Soup", "Hashiage", and "Maizeful Charity". Manya activates the Spell Card "Maizeful Charity", drawing two cards, then placing one card from her hand on the bottom of her Deck. She draws "Dian Keto the Gourmet Maiden" and "Gourmetropolis", then places "Spirit of the Soup" from her hand on the bottom of her Deck. Manya Normal Summons "Demi-glace Dark Witch" (1500/0) and "Gourmaid" (1200/0). As "Gourmaid" was Normal Summoned this turn and Manya controls a FIRE Aqua Type Normal Monster, she activates the effect of "Gourmaid", adding a FIRE Aqua Type Normal Monster from her Graveyard to her hand.[Notes 1] She adds "Miso Omotics" from her Graveyard to her hand. Manya Tributes "Spirit of the Soup" and "Gourmaid" to Tribute Summon "Dian Keto the Gourmet Maiden" (2500/1000). As Manya controls a face-up FIRE Aqua Type monster, she activates the Field Spell Card "Gourmetropolis". The effect of "Gourmetropolis" prevents all Attack Position Level 8 Aqua Type monsters on the field from being destroyed by battle. As a face-up Spell Card is on the field, Manya activates the effect of "Dian Keto", sending a card from her hand to the Graveyard to gain 1000 LP, then "Dian Keto" gains 300 ATK for each face-up Spell Card on the field until the end of the turn. She send "Miso Omotics" from her hand to the Graveyard and controls the Field Spell Card "Gourmetropolis" while Menjaburo controls the Equip Spell Card "The Noodle Mask of Ghost Peppers" (Manya: 1500 → 2500 LP; "Dian Keto": 2500/1000 → 3100/1000). As Manya controls an Aqua Type monster, she activates her Set Spell Card "Water Cutter", destroying a Spell/Trap Card Menjaburo controls. She destroys "The Noodle Mask of Ghost Peppers" ("Tsuke Mendius": 3300/2500 → 2500/1700). Manya Sets a card. "Dian Keto" attacks and destroys "Tsuke Mendius" (Menjaburo: 4000 → 3400 LP). "Demi-glace Dark Witch" attacks Menjaburo directly (Menjaburo: 3400 → 1900 LP).

Turn 4: Menjaburo
Menjaburo draws "Shirumaro", "Tsukemaro", "Draining of the Masked Noodle Broth", "The Masuhodo Noodle Broth", and "Noodle Mask of Gluttony". Menjaburo Normal Summons "Tsukemaro" (1500/0) and "Shirumaro" (0/1500). Menjaburo activates the Spell Card "Draining of the Masked Noodle Broth", sending two Level 4 Pyro Type monsters he controls to the Graveyard to Special Summon "The Masuhodo Noodle Broth" from his hand, and if he does, this turn, that monster gains 700 ATK, it cannot be destroyed by Manya's Trap effects, and it inflicts piercing battle damage if it attacks a Defense Postion monster. He sends "Tsukemaro" and "Shirumaro" from his field to the Graveyard and Special Summons "The Masuhodo Noodle Broth" (2500/1800 → 3300/1800) from his hand in Attack Position. As Menjaburo Normal or Special Summoned a monster, Manya activates her Set "Hashiage", returning "Demi-glace Dark Witch" from her field to her hand, so she controls one Aqua Type monster, "Dian Keto" (Manya: 2500 → 2900 LP). Menjaburo activates his Set Spell Card "Noodle Mask of Unappetizing", shuffling three Pyro Type Normal Monsters from his Graveyard into his Deck to choose a face-up monster Manya controls and reduce its ATK equal to the Level of the monster he controls with the highest Level x 200 until the end of the turn. He shuffles "Shirumaro" and two unknown Pyro Type Normal Monsters from his Graveyard into his Deck and chooses "Dian Keto" ("Dian Keto": 2500/1000 → 900/1000). Menjaburo pays 1000 LP to activate the Equip Spell Card "Noodle Mask of Gluttony" (Menjaburo: 1900 → 900 LP), equipping it to one face-up Level 7 or higher Pyro Type monster he controls. He equips "Noodle Mask of Gluttony" to the Level 8 "The Masuhodo Noodle Broth". The effect of "Noodle Mask of Gluttony" increases the ATK of the equipped monster by 1000 and reduces its DEF by 1000 ("The Masuhodo Noodle Broth": 3200/1800 → 4200/800). "The Masuhodo Noodle Broth" attacks "Dian Keto", but due to the effect of "Gourmetropolis", it is not destroyed (Manya: 2900 → 0 LP).
