"Don't Fear the Reaper", known as "The One-Turn-Kill Death God" in the Japanese version is the ninety-first episode of the Yu-Gi-Oh! GX anime. It first aired in Japan on June 28, 2006 and in the United States on February 5, 2007.

Rumors have spread of a Duelist taking part in the Genex Tournament who defeats his opponents in one turn. This turns out to be Lucien Grimley, who gained his drawing power through a pact with the "Grim Reaper" card. Jaden ends up Dueling Lucien, who's sold his soul to the Grim Reaper, and with the start of their Duel, Lucien draws his "Slash Draw" Spell Card and comes at Jaden with his One Turn Kill. Can Jaden possibly...?

Summary[edit]

A thunderstorm rolls over Duel Academy one evening during the Genex Tournament as a Duel between an Obelisk Blue student and his opponent is underway (in the dub, the Duelist tells the student it was time to rest in pieces). The Obelisk Blue student controls "Marauding Captain", "Armed Samurai - Ben Kei", "Lightning Blade", and "Great Sword". His opponent's eyes glow red as he holds up his right hand marked with a human skull and a pair of bat wings, which exhumes a black smoke circling around his forearm. He pumps his right arm upwards and declares that his hand is crying out for victory (in the dub, he instead explains the power of the Grim Reaper to draw any card he wants) while it is shown he has activated the Spell Card "Slash Draw". A violent wind picks up around and blows the dark smoke around the two Duelists. The Obelisk Blue student identifies him as the "Grim Reaper Duelist" (in the dub, the student fearfully states he was only in the tournament for the Genex Medallions). As the "Grim Reaper Duelist" draws the card he wants, a flash of lightning strikes behind him as he draws his card. As the lightning dissipates, the spirit of the Grim Reaper appears and towers over the "Grim Reaper Duelist". An invisible slash attack destroys the Obelisk Blue student's cards and blows him away in an One Turn Kill while the "Grim Reaper Duelist" laughs victoriously.

Later, the "Grim Reaper Duelist" is setting at a log near a pond, basking in his victories with his recently-obtained Genex Medallions (in the dub, the Duelist states there is no way he would lose the tournament with his Deck). The Grim Reaper appears and reminds the Duelist of their pact: the 'Grim Reaper Duelist" would win the Genex Tournament in exchange for his soul. As the "Grim Reaper Duelist" vows to win, his vision blurs and he passes out from exhaustion (in the dub, the Grim Reaper suggests that the Duelist must rest, which the latter agrees to). Around the same time, Jaden Yuki emerges from the bushes, having heard of the rumors of the "Grim Reaper Duelist", and challenges him (in the dub, Jaden simply tells the Duelist he heard him and challenges him). Jaden, along with Syrus Truesdale and Tyranno Hassleberry, see the Grim Reaper, who disappears in a dark whirlwind, leaving Jaden perplexed. Chazz Princeton finds a rectangular pendant around the Duelist's neck and tosses it to Jaden, which contains the "Grim Reaper" card. Chazz explains that the "Grim Reaper" card was one of the seven wonders of North Academy that was sealed away until it was stolen.

At the Duel Academy infirmary, Syrus and Hassleberry sleep back-to-back while the "Grim Reaper Duelist" sleeps in one of the beds. Chazz identifies the "Grim Reaper Duelist" on his PDA as Lucien Grimley, a student from North Academy. Lucien wakes up and immediately inquires about his Deck, which Jaden offers it to him along with his Duel Disk. Lucien expresses his relief to have his Deck, and Jaden identifies him as a nice guy based on how much he loves his Deck. Chazz questions how Jaden could be mellow (in the dub, Lucien snatches the Deck away. Jaden tells Lucien to relax since it was in good hands, but is interrupted by Lucien. Jaden nonchalantly calls Lucien grumpy and tells him that he needs more sleep, to which Chazz replies that no one could be as happy as he is). Lucien recognizes Jaden and Chazz, whose natural drawing power made them the favorites to win the Genex Tournament. Lucien boasts that their drawing would end by defeating them both with his One Turn Kill Deck (in the dub, Lucien has heard that Jaden is leading the tournament, but not for long, boasting that his Deck in unbeatable). Chazz knows Lucien is talking big and asks if he could win (in the dub, Chazz asks Lucien what makes hi special). Lucien realizes that his pendant carrying the "Grim Reaper" card is missing and demands to know from Jaden and Chazz where they put the card. Chazz reveals that he locked the card in a locked box inside a tightly-sealed suitcase in his Slifer Red dorm room, guarded by "Ojama Yellow", "Ojama Black", and "jama Green". The spirit of Ojama Yellow materializes, assuring Chazz that the "Grim Reaper" card wouldn't get out (in the dub, Ojama Yellow tells the Grim Reaper he isn't going anywhere as long as he is in charge).

Chazz scolds Lucien for handling a dangerous card and explains the legend behind the "Grim Reaper": it is able to give the owner the power to draw any card capable of performing a One Turn Kill in exchange for the Duelist's soul, which is why North Academy sealed it away. Jaden wonders if the "Grim Reaper" card is the secret behind the "Grim Reaper Duelist's" power (in the dub, Jaden asks if the spirit he saw was the real Grim Reaper). Lucien then explains the reasoning behind carrying the "Grim Reaper" card.

In a flashback, Lucien, while attending North Academy, is defeated by Czar, who mocks Lucien's Deck for being useless. Lucien curses and muttered if he only drew "that card", but Czar scoffs, telling Lucien that the world of Dueling isn't soft enough for Lucien to go by with "what-if" scenarios before walking away (in the dub, Czar tells Lucien that he should stick to "Go Fish" and laughs as he walks away). Lucien grumbles and grits his teeth while a single teardrop falls on the ground below and the flashback ends (in the dub, the teardrop sequence is cut).

In the present, Lucien grips the bedsheets and accuses Jaden and Chazz of not understanding what it feels to be unable to draw the right card when it counts (in the dub, Luciens states that his loss against the Czar prompted him to et help from the "Grim Reaper" card). Jaden replies that it was no reason for Lucien to mess with the risky "Grim Reaper" card, only for Lucien to tell Jaden to shut up, admitting that he couldn't care less about his soul. Lucien vows to claim victory at the Genex Tournament as the dark smoke billows from the skull marking on his right hand and around his forearm. Lucien pumps up his right fist and calls for the Grim Reaper to return to him and bring him victory with his One Turn Kill Deck in exchange for his soul. The dark smoke billows around the infirmary, startling Syrus and Hassleberry away. The infirmary doors open to reveal a dazed Vellian Crowler enveloped with a dark aura, possessed by the spirit of the Grim Reaper as he carries the pendant containing its card form. A beaten-up Ojama Yellow covered in bandages appears to Chazz, explaining he and his brothers tried their hardest; Chazz cringes and calls the brothers useless (in the dub, Ojama Yellow asks if Chazz really thought if he could stop the Grim Reaper; Chazz sarcastically thanks him for nothing). Lucien vows to not let anyone mock his Deck (in the dub, Lucien states he knew the Grim Reaper would find his way back), snatches the pendant fro Crowler, and runs out of the infirmary with Jaden pursuing him.

Jaden pursues Lucien outside the main entrance of the Duel Academy main building, who makes his presence known as he wears the pendant. Lucien tells Jaden that the skull on his right hand is longing for victory and wants to hear Jaden in his last moments (in the dub, Lucien instead states that he would take the lead in the tournament by defeating Jaden). Jaden realizes that the Grim Reaper has a hold on Lucien and holds out his Duel Disk, accepting his challenge. Lucien laughs as he activates his Duel Disk, and the Grim Reaper's spirit appears behind him. The storm clouds thunder as both Duelists begin their match.

Jaden takes the first turn, draws, and Normal Summons "Elemental Hero Clayman" in Defense Position. Lucien counts the first card on the field. Jaden notices this and Sets a card and ends his turn. Lucien counts the second card. Syrus and Hassleberry arrive as the Duel begins; the former wonders if Jaden will be okay while the latter replies that a One Turn Kill Deck is leaving things to luck. Chazz arrives and explains that Lucien is carrying the Grim Reaper's drawing power (in the dub, Hassleberry asks Syrus if he believes the stories about winning in one turn. Chazz explains the Grim Reaper's power to draw any card Lucien wants).

Lucien draws and activates the Spell Card "Temptation of the Goddess", forcing Jaden to reveal his hand and allowing him to Special Summon a Level 4 or lower monster to Jaden's field. Jaden reveals his hand, which contains "Elemental Hero Sparkman", "Elemental Hero Avian", "Elemental Hero Burstinatrix", and "Burst Impact". Lucien chooses to Special Summon "Sparkman" to Jaden's field in Attack Position, leaving Jaden to wonder what Lucien is trying to do, who counts the third card. He then activates the Spell Card "Mischief of the Goddess", forcing Jaden to reveal his hand and allow Lucien to Set a Spell Card from his hand to Jaden's Spell & Trap Zone. Lucien remembers that Jaden's hand contains "Burst Impact" and forces him to Set it. When Jaden Sets "Burst Impact", Lucien counts the fourth card and declares that the groundwork is laid out for his One Turn Kill strategy. As Jaden and his friends watch, Lucien activates his trump card, "Slash Draw", allowing him to send the number of cards from the top of his Deck to the Graveyard equal to the number of cards on the field. Since Jaden's field has four cards, Lucien sends four cards to the Graveyard (among the milled cards being "Reload", "Magical Stone Excavation", "Exchange of the Spirit", and "Big Eye") and then explains that if the next card is another copy of "Slash Draw", then all cards on the field are destroyed and Jaden takes 1000 points of damage for each card destroyed. Syrus realizes that there are four cards and Hassleberry deduces the reason for Lucien getting cards out on Jaden's field. Chazz questions if Lucien's Deck is the one that relies on the Grim Reaper's drawing power (in the dub, Chazz states that if Lucien picks "SLash Draw", then the Duel is over and telling Jaden "rest in peace, dork"). Jaden is skeptical that Lucien will draw the next copy of "Slash Draw"; Lucien demonstrates the power of the skull mark on his right hand. He pumps it up in the air and the dark smoke billows around his body while he warns Jaden to brace himself against the moment that his One Turn Kill Deck defeats him. The dark smoke materializes into the Grim Reaper, who asks Lucien if he craves victory or his soul. Lucien replies that he craves the latter (in the dub, the Grim Reaper states his price is Lucien's soul, which the latter agrees to). As he draws his second "Slash Draw", a slashing shockwave flies across the field, destroying all of Jaden's cards on the field in multiple explosions.

As Lucien reveals his second "Slash Draw" and declares his victory, he is surprised to see Jaden standing as the smoke clears with his Life Points reduced to 1000. Jaden happily reveals that he is saved by his first Set card, the Trap Card "Hero Medal", which is shuffled into his Deck instead of going to the Graveyard when it is destroyed and allows him to draw a card. Chazz deduces that the damaging effect of "Slash Draw" only resolves when the destroyed cards are sent to the Graveyard, to which Hassleberry deduces that the damage won't be applied is the cards are not sent to the Graveyard (in the dub, Hassleberry realizes why Jaden only loses 3000 Life Points). Lucien is surprised to see Jaden evade his One Turn Kill; Jaden apologizes and compliments Lucien's Deck, but he feels something is missing from it (in the dub, Jaden tells Lucien not to worry and name it the "Two Round Win", but he doesn't plan to lose then, either). Lucien angrily feels as if Jaden is mocking his Deck (in the dub, Lucien gets angry at Jaden for mocking the Grim Reaper) and activates the Spell Card "Footsteps of the Goddess", forcing Jaden to reveal his hand and allowing him to Special Summon a monster with 1500 or less ATK from his hand to Jaden's field, in exchange for Lucien Special Summoning a monster with 1500 or less ATK from his hand to his field. Lucien Special Summons "Avian" to Jaden's field while also Special Summoning "Invincible Demise Lord" to his field. Lucien explains he cannot attack the turn he activates "Footsteps of the Goddess" and ends his turn (in the dub, Lucien remarks that it might be a "Two Round Win").

Jaden begins his turn and draws his turnaround trump card, "Polymerization" (in the dub, Jaden states, he drew what he needed without the Grim Reaper's help), fusing "Avian" with "Burstinatrix" in his hand to Fusion Summon his "favorite card", "Elemental Hero Flame Wingman" in Attack Position. Jaden orders "Flame Wingman" to attack "Invincible Demise Lord" with "Infernal Rage" as "Flame Wingman" shoots a burst of fire from its dragon cannon arm, destroying the opposing monster. As Lucien's Life Points drop from 4000 to 3200, Jaden explains the effect of "Flame Wingman", inflicting damage to Lucien equal to the destroyed monster's ATK. Lucien gasps as "Flame Wingman" shoots him with his dragon arm cannon, engulfing him with fire and dropping his Life Points from 3200 to 1900. Syrus and Hassleberry cheer for Jaden as he ends his turn. Lucien expresses his jealousy of Jaden being blessed by his drawing power; he knew what was in Jaden's hand and hoped he wouldn't draw a turnaround card used to defeat his "Invincible Demise Lord", but still drew well and questions why his drawing shouldn't be powerful (in the dub, Lucien instead expresses his jealousy towards Jaden's luck, which is something he never had). Syrus explains that Duelists look into how well they would draw right as they make them (in the dub, Syrus explains that Jaden draws what he needs because he believes in his Deck). Lucien explains he did exactly that, but he could never draw the right card he wanted when it mattered to him or pull off a combination until he gained the Grim Reaper's power. He holds up his right arm and explains that he did everything to grace the "goddess of drawing", but had no choice and turned to the Grim Reaper's power. He vows to prove how good his Deck is by putting his soul on the line (in the dub, Lucien did try believing in it, but it wasn't enough and the power of the Grim Reaper would help him win by drawing the card he needs, which is worth more than his soul. He claims that Jaden is jealous becayse the Grim Reaper's power belongs to him). Lucien then explains that the effect of "Invincible Demise Lord" Special Summons itself from the Graveyard during the End Phase it is destroyed. The ground erupts from underneath, and "Invincible Demise Lord" appears as Lucien explains that its ATK becomes 3000 and cannot be destroyed by card effects. "Invincible Demise Lord" swipes its scythe, releasing souls that spook Syrus, Hassleberry. Chazz acknowledges that the monster looks dangerous (this part is cut from the dub).

Lucien draws and orders his "Invincible Demise Lord" to attack "Flame Wingman" with "End of Soul". The monster swings its scythe and releases a slashing shockwave that destroys "Flame Wingman" in an explosion, reducing Jaden's Life Points to 100. Lucien laughs and feels that winning against a Duelist with incredible natural drawing power will make his Deck shine brighter (in the dub, Lucien asks Jaden if his good luck streak ended). Jaden draws and Normal Summons his "Dandylion" in Defense Position, Sets a card, and ends his turn. Lucien laughs at the notion of Jaden not drawing his turnaround cards right away, but Jaden replies that all of his cards are turnaround trump cards (in the dub, Jaden warns that "Dandylion" would surprise Lucien).

Lucien draws and discards two Spell Cards from his hand to the Graveyard (the sent cards being "Book of Taiyou" and "Monster Reincarnation") in order to activate the Spell Card "Spell Reproduction". Jaden is shocked and explains its effect to add a Spell Card from the Graveyard to the hand. Lucien affirms that he would be adding "Slash Draw" from his Graveyard to his hand and reveals that he has a copy of "Slash Draw" left in his Deck. Chazz realizes that Lucien will use the power of the Grim Reaper to draw the card and wonders if he would sacrifice his soul to win the Genex Tournament (in the dub, Chazz realizes that Lucien has a third "Slash Draw" and he would use the power of the reaper to draw it and win the Duel). Jaden answers that it was not the case; Lucien loves his Deck that he would stake his soul for it (in the dub, Jaden instead says that Lucien is not going to use the Grim Reaper and instead use it on his own). Jaden understands Lucien wanted to win because he wanted people to respect his Deck, as someone who could do what Lucien did when making his Deck. Jaden explains this is because Lucien put how much he wanted into his Deck to pump up his opponent (in the dub, Jaden tells Lucien that he should believe in his Deck and he can draw any card. He also explains the reason Lucien made a deal with the Grim Reaper is because he was afraid, but he didn't need him because Dueling isn't about luck). Lucien replies that Jaden might enjoy the Duel, but it was also because he gained the Grim Reaper's drawing power; Jaden says it wasn't the case and stated that if he loved his Deck like Lucien loved his, then it will always come through to him (in the dub, Lucien tells Jaden it was easy for him to say because he draws the exact card he needs, but Jaden assures Lucien that he can to if he can believe). This reminds Lucien of when he assembled his Deck at North Academy, which he proudly presents as his One Turn Kill Deck.

Lucien remembers the reason he wanted to show off the Deck that he loves (in the dub, Lucien remembers he used to have faith in his Deck similar to Jaden). The Grim Reaper appears to Lucien and reminds him that victory was what he desired so he could prove its strength to the North Academy students who mocked it, including Czar (in the dub, the Grim Reaper reminds Lucien how having in faith in his Deck caused him loss and embarrassment, and without him, Lucien's combo would never work). Lucien strains as he activates "Slash Draw", sending the top three cards from the top of his Deck to the Graveyard (among the milled cards being "Mystic Tomato", "Des Feral Imp", and "Book of Moon") and draw one more card. The billowing darkness around Lucien's arm intensifies as Jaden realizes the card that was missing from Lucien's Deck - his heart (in the dub, Jaden tells Lucien to fight the Grim Reaper's power and believe in his Deck and draw; he doesn't need the Grim Reaper). The Grim Reaper reminds Lucien that the proof of their pact won't vanish from his right hand and orders him to draw and claim his victory (in the dub, the Grim Reaper tells Lucien to not listen to Jaden and draw the card with the arm empowered by the Reaper and deliver his soul to him). As Lucien reaches for his card, he admits to wanting to win the Duel before removing the pendant from his neck and declares that he wants to believe in his Deck. Lucien throws the pendant away, and the Grim Reaper screams as its spirit dematerializes (in the dub, Lucien states that Jaden is right and outwardly breaks his agreement with the Grim Reaper).

The storm clouds part and reveal a full moon. Lucien throws his Duel Disk from his left arm in the air and catches it with his right arm, much to the surprise of Syrus, Hassleberry, and Chazz. Lucien apologizes to his Deck and regains his belief in it as the darkness wrapped around his right arm disappears. He draws his card, which is revealed to be the third copy of "Slash Draw". Lucien thanks his Deck (in the dub, Lucien says "In your face, Reaper") and reveals it to Jaden, which exudes a dark whirlwind towards Jaden's field, and an explosion happens. Jaden acknowledges that Lucien's Deck cam through for him, but is unwilling to lose as he reveals his Set Counter Trap Card "Emergency Evasion", which he activated in response to the activation of a Spell Card, banishing "Dandylion" from his field. Lucien is impressed by how Jaden evaded his "Slash Draw" once again; Jaden replies he has his own heart-to-hearts with his Deck, which is how he Duels with everything. Lucien tells Jaden their Duel is interesting and his combo isn't finished yet, reminding him that "Invincible Demise Lord" can't be destroyed by card effects. Jaden correctly deduces that Lucien will finish him off with "Invincible Demise Lord", which Lucien commands to attack Jaden directly. Jaden explains the effect of "Emergency Evasion" after the Spell effect is resolved, allowing him to draw a card from his Deck, and if it is the same card type as the banished card, it is returned to the field. Jaden acknowledges that the card he needs to draw is a Monster Card, otherwise, Lucien will win. Lucien asks if Jaden is proving the strength of his bond with his Deck as he draws, which is revealed to be a Monster Card - "Elemental Hero Neos", much to Lucien's surprise. Jaden thanks his Deck as "Dandylion" returns to the field in Defense Position. As Lucien and Jaden both happily acknowledge their Duel, Lucien commands "Invincible Demise Lord" to attack with "End of Soul". The monster swings its scythe and releases a slashing shockwave that destroys "Dandylion" in an explosion, but Jaden explains the effect of "Dandylion" to Special Summon two "Fluff Tokens" to his field in Defense Position, which appear in puffs of smoke. Lucien ends his turn.

Jaden draws and Lucien wonders what miracle he will make (this part is cut from the dub). Jaden Tributes his two "Fluff Tokens" to Tribute Summon "Neos" in Attack Position. Lucien reminds Jaden that "Invincible Demise Lord" has higher ATK than "Neos". Jaden equips "Neos" with the Equip Spell Card "Neos Force", increasing its 2500 ATK by 800 to 3300 ATK, all while "Neos'" body is enveloped in a multicolored aura. Jaden commands "Neos" to attack with "Cosmic Crush"; the monster jumps and dives towards "Invincible Demise Lord", destroying it in an explosion. Jaden then activates the effect of "Neos Force" to inflict damage to Lucien equal to the destroyed monster's ATK. Lucien backs away as "Neos'" rainbow aura grows brighter, causing his Life Points to drop to 0, winning Jaden the Duel. Syrus and Hassleberry cheer for Jaden while Chazz simply scoffs.

Lucien lays on his back defeated as his cards are scattered in the air. Jaden assumes his usual victory pose, pointing at him with two fingers and says "Gotcha!", telling Lucien the Duel was fun (in the dub, Jaden says "That's game!" and says that he and Lucien should Duel again sometime). Lucien raises his right arm with two fingers pointed upward for victory, agreeing that the Duel was fun as the Grim Reaper's skull mark disappears from the back of his right hand. Lucien realizes that the fun for Dueling and the love for a Deck isn't about the outcome. He looks up to see his cards descending in the air. Smiling, he tearfully tells his Deck he loves it and promises to work together. Syrus and Hassleberry join Jaden while Chazz watches from afar with a satisfied smirk (in the dub, Lucien tanks Jaden for restoring faith in himself and his cards and promises to never lose faith again).

Featured Duels[edit]

Featured Duel: Lucien Grimley vs. Obelisk Blue Student[edit]

Duel is already in progress. Both Duelists have an unknown amount of Life Points. Lucien controls no cards while the Obelisk Blue student controls "Armed Samurai - Ben Kei", "Marauding Captain", "Great Sword", and "Lightning Blade".

Turn ?: Lucien
Lucien activates the drawing effect of "Slash Draw". If the next card Lucien draws is "Slash Draw", then all cards on field are destroyed and the Obelisk Blue student will take 1000 damage for each card destroyed and sent to the Graveyard this way. Lucien draws "Slash Draw", destroying all cards on the field and inflicting 4000 damage to the Obelisk Blue student.

Lucien wins.

Featured Duel: Jaden Yuki vs. Lucien Grimley[edit]

Turn 1: Jaden
Jaden draws. He then Normal Summons "Elemental Hero Clayman" (800/2000) in Defense Position and Sets a card.

Turn 2: Lucien
Lucien draws. He activates the Spell Card "Temptation of the Goddess" to force Jaden to reveal his hand. If Jaden has a Level 4 or lower monster in his hand, Lucien can Special Summon that monster to Jaden's field. Jaden's hand contains "Elemental Hero Avian", "Elemental Hero Burstinatrix", "Burst Impact" and "Elemental Hero Sparkman". Lucien Special Summons "Sparkman" (1600/1400) to Jaden's field in Attack Position. He then activates the Spell Card "Mischief of the Goddess" to force Jaden to reveal his hand again. If Jaden has a Spell Card in his hand, Lucien can Set that card in Jaden's Spell & Trap Zone. Lucien Sets "Burst Impact".

Lucien then activates "Slash Draw" to send a number of cards from the top of his Deck to the Graveyard equal to the number of cards on the field and draw a card, and if it is another copy of "Slash Draw", all other cards on the field will be destroyed and Jaden will take 1000 damage for each card destroyed and sent to the Graveyard this way. Since there are four cards on the field, he sends "Reload", "Magical Stone Excavation", "Exchange of the Spirit" and "Big Eye" to the Graveyard and draws a card, which is revealed to be "Slash Draw". The effect of "Slash Draw" activates, destroying all card on the field and inflicting 1000 damage to Jaden for each card destroyed. While all cards on Jaden's field are destroyed, only three of the destroyed cards go to the Graveyard (Jaden 4000 → 1000). Jaden then reveals that the other Set card that was destroyed was "Hero Medal". Since "Hero Medal" was destroyed by a card effect from a card effect, it returns to Jaden's Deck instead and allows him to draw a card.

Lucien then activates "Footsteps of the Goddess" to force Jaden to reveal his hand again and Special Summon a monster with 1500 or less ATK from his hand to his field. Lucien Special Summon "Elemental Hero Avian" (1000/1000) to Jaden's field in Attack Position. Lucien then uses the second effect of "Footsteps of the Goddess" to Special Summon "Invincible Demise Lord" (1300/2000) from his hand in Attack Position. Due to the last effect of "Footsteps of the Goddess", neither monster Special Summoned this way can attack this turn.

Turn 3: Jaden
Jaden draws "Polymerization" and subsequently activates it and fuses "Avian" with "Burstinatrix" in hand to Fusion Summon "Elemental Hero Flame Wingman" (2100/1200) in Attack Position. "Flame Wingman” attacks and destroys "Invincible Demise Lord" (Lucien 4000 → 3200). The effect of "Flame Wingman" then activates, inflicting damage to Lucien equal to the ATK of his destroyed monster (Lucien 3200 → 1900). During Jaden's End Phase, the effect of "Invincible Demise Lord" activates, Special Summoning itself from his Graveyard in Attack Position with 3000 ATK (1300 → 3000/2000) and prevent it from being destroyed by card effects.

Turn 4: Lucien
Lucien draws. "Invincible Demise Lord" attacks and destroys "Flame Wingman" (Jaden 1000 → 100).

Turn 5: Jaden
Jaden draws. He then Normal Summons "Dandylion" (300/300) in Defense Position and Sets a card.

Turn 6: Lucien
Lucien draws "Spell Reproduction" and subsequently activates it to add a Spell Card from his Graveyard to his hand by discarding two Spell Cards. He discards "Book of Taiyou" and "Monster Reincarnation" and adds "Slash Draw" from his Graveyard to his hand. He then activates "Slash Draw" to send the top three cards of his Deck ("Mystic Tomato", "Book of Moon" and "Des Feral Imp") to the Graveyard and draw a card. Lucien draws "Slash Draw", but Jaden activates his Set Counter Trap Card "Emergency Evasion" to banish "Dandylion", allowing Jaden to avoid taking damage.

"Invincible Demise Lord" then attacks directly, but Jaden activates the second effect of "Emergency Evasion" to draw a card, and if the drawn card is the card type as the banished card, he can return that card in the same position it was in before it was banished. Jaden draws "Elemental Hero Neos", and "Dandylion" is returned to the field (300/300) in Defense Position. A replay occurs and Lucien uses "Invincible Demise Lord" to attack and destroy "Dandylion". "Dandylion's" effect then activates, Special Summoning two "Fluff Tokens" (0/0) in Defense Position.

Turn 7: Jaden
Jaden draws "Neos Force". He Tributes his two "Fluff Tokens" to Tribute Summon "Elemental Hero Neos" (2500/2000) in Attack Position. Jaden then equips "Neos" with "Neos Force", increasing its ATK by 800 ("Neos": 2500 → 3300/2000). "Neos" attacks and destroys "Invincible Demise Lord" (Lucien 1900 → 1600). The effect of "Neos Force" then activates, inflicting damage to Lucien equal to the ATK of his destroyed monster. (Lucien 1600 → 0).

Jaden wins.

Featured cards[edit]

The following cards appeared in this episode. Cards in italics debuted here.

Errors[edit]

  • In the English dubbed version, when Jaden activates the effect of "Hero Medal", he says it goes to his hand instead of the Deck.
  • In the English dubbed version, when "Elemental Hero Flame Wingman" destroys "Invincible Demise Lord", Jaden says that "Flame Wingman's" effect allows it a second attack, which is a direct attack. The effect of "Flame Wingman" inflicts damage equal to the ATK of the opponent's monster it destroys by battle.
  • In the English dubbed version, when Lucien activates one of the copies of "Slash Draw", "Mystic Tomato" is shown to have its original Japanese artwork.
