"The Last Gamble!!" (最後の賭け!! Saigo no Kake!!) is the 342nd chapter of the Yu-Gi-Oh! manga. In its first English printing, it was numbered as the 64th chapter of Yu-Gi-Oh! Millennium World. In the 3-in-1 edition, its number was changed to match the original Japanese printing.

Yugi's "Gandora the Dragon of Destruction" failed to defeat Atem's "Dark Magician", and both players prepare their final gambles to win.

Summary[edit]

Yugi and Atem face off, Yugi on 1000 Life Points and Atem on 3000. Jonouchi laments that even Yugi's secret weapon "Gandora" failed to beat the "Dark Magician" and now Yugi doesn't have any monsters to defend with and will be dead when "Dark Magician" hits him on the next turn, while Anzu says Yugi's name in concern to herself. Atem notes that they each only have one card in their hands, and Yugi Sets a card to end his turn, Atem noting that now Yugi has no cards in his hand.

He declares his turn and draws, noting that Yugi has two face-down cards and the "Gold Sarcophagus" that prevents one card from being used. But as Atem notes, the light hasn't left his partner's eyes and he hasn't given up yet, so Atem too will fight until the end. He Sets a card, which Yugi notes only leaves him with one card in his hand, and orders "Dark Magician" to attack Yugi diectly. Jonouchi curses as the "Black Magic" begins building and Sugoroku yelps that this is bad, Otogi crying that it's all over.

But Yugi activates a Trap Card, "Magician's Circle", which Atem recognizes. As a "Magician" attacked, it allows Yugi to Special Summon a "Magician" of his own, and Jonouchi cheers that Yugi isn't out of this yet, while Sugoroku wonders if his means Yugi thought far enough ahead that "Gandora" wouldn't be able to destroy the "Dark Magician". Yugi Summons his "Silent Magician", but Atem also gets to Summon a "Magician", "Dark Magician Girl". Yugi gasps and Atem reminds him that "Magician's Circle" affects both players, being a double-edged sword that can give the opponent an advantage - and Atem's glad that Yugi did it. Yugi gasps as Atem activates a Permanent Spell Card, "Magicians Unite", thinking that it's useless without two "Magicians" on the field and realizing Atem anticipated his "Magician's Circle" Trap. "Magicians Unite" allows Atem's "Magicians" to attack together with 3000 ATK, and Jonouchi gasps that it's two against one with only 1000 ATK, crying that he can't watch.

But as the two "Magicians" cross staffs, Yugi activates another face-down card, "Card of Sanctity". Atem gasps in shock as he realize what it means, and Yugi confirms they'll have to draw until they have six cards in their hands. Atem's eyes widen as Yugi adds that "Silent Magician" gains 500 ATK each time he draws, and they have to draw a lot of cards, so look at her now. "Silent Magician" rises to LV5 and a more adult form with 3500 ATK, and she radiates her "Silent Burning" attack, blasting the "Dark Magicians" away and defeating them, reducing Atem to 2500 Life Points. Everyone watches as Atem ends his turn.

Yugi declares his turn and draws, thinking to Atem that this is it; their last turn. But Atem has six cards in his hand, and thinks to himself that this will be his last gamble. All of their friends watch wordlessly as the two stare at each other, before Yugi attacks Atem directly with "Silent Magician". Jonouchi exclaims and Honda cries that Yugi will win if this attack succeeds. But Atem remains firm, and Sugoroku notes that there's only one way for the other Yugi to recover from this upset, wondering if Yugi planned for it. Yugi is still thinking about what he would do if he were Atem, and Atem thinks that Yugi's "Card of Sanctity"-"Silent Magician" combo was perfect, but he made one mistake: he filled Atem's hand as well.

He apologizes mentally to Yugi - and tells "Slifer the Sky Dragon" to return to life. The serpentine red dragon appears behind him as "Monster Reborn" activates, Summoning it in Attack Position to counterattack the "Silent Magician". Jonouchi gasps the God's name and realizes that it has 6000 ATK due to Atem having six cards in his hand, while Yugi realizes that Atem sent "Slifer" to the Graveyard on his first turn to Summon "The Tricky". Atem silently thinks that he's won.

Featured Duel: Yugi Mutou vs. Atem[edit]

Duel continues from the previous chapter.

Turn 12: Yugi
Yugi Sets a card.

Turn 13: Atem
Atem Sets a card. "Dark Magician" attacks Yugi directly, but as a Magician monster attacked, Yugi activates his Set Trap Card "Magician's Circle", allowing each player to Special Summon a "Magician" monster from their Deck. Yugi Special Summons "Silent Magician" (1000/1000) in Attack Position and Atem Special Summons "Dark Magician Girl" (2000/1700) in Attack Position. Atem activates his Set Permanent Spell Card "Magicians Unite", allowing two "Magician" monsters he controls to attack together with 3000 ATK. He chooses "Dark Magician" and "Dark Magician Girl". The attack continues, but Yugi activates his Set Spell Card "Card of Sanctity", making both players draw until they have six cards in their hands. The effect of "Silent Magician" increases its ATK by 500 every time Atem draws a card. Atem drew five cards ("Silent Magician": 1000 → 3500/1000). The attack continues and "Dark Magician" and "Dark Magician Girl" are both destroyed (Atem: 3000 → 2500 LP).

Turn 14: Yugi
"Silent Magician" attacks Atem directly, but Atem activates his Set Spell Card, "Monster Reborn", Special Summoning a monster from either player's Graveyard. He Special Summons "Slifer the Sky Dragon" (X000/X000) in Attack Position. The effect of "Slifer" increases its ATK/DEF by 1000 for each card in Atem's hand. Atem has six cards in his hand ("Slifer": X000 → 6000/X000 → 6000).

Duel concludes in the next chapter.
