The Team Battle continues, with Des facing off against Tsukiko. Des has the advantage now, but a dark force is swelling up in Tsukiko's heart. Can Des ride out the coming storm?

Summary[edit]

The Team Battle event has begun in the Satellite Shop, where teams of 3 are battling it out for the ultimate prize - stainless steel prize cards. After a long-fought tournament, Team Structures, comprised of Shoma Yusa, Strong Jukyu, and surprise ringer Des the friendly part-timer, have reached the final round. Now, they must face the final team in a best-of-3 series of Duels. Face to them is Team Light and Darkness, the Two Parts of A Same Coin, comprised of the Kuroda siblings Yami and Tsukiko, as well as Saiko Tendo. Each team sent out their first Duelist, and to Tsukiko's surprise, she now faces Des, instead of Shoma as she was expecting. And after all the effort she put into finding a Deck specifically to use against Shoma.

Continuing her turn still in progress, Tsukiko presses on. She activates "Cosmos Channelling" to send Des' "Darklord Ixchel" (recently stolen from Des' field) to the Graveyard to revive her own "Jinzo" from the Graveyard. If she can't have another Duel Date with Shoma, she decides, then she can at least be happy if she can, through superior Dueling, make him cheer for her just once. While Jinzo is on the field, all Trap Cards on the field are rendered useless; however, neither of her monsters can overpower Des' "Darklord Superbia", and so she must end her turn.

Des begins her turn, but Tsukiko uses the other effect of "Cosmos Channelling", guessing that her just-drawn card is a Monster Card. She is correct, and so is allowed to draw a card. Mentally, she calls out to Shoma to praise her for her correct guess, but Shoma is instead lamenting that the other team is a step ahead, to Tsukiko's annoyance. Des continues her turn, deploying the full power of the "Darklords". In the audience, a group of kids wonder how she could activate "Darklord Contact" twice, despite having a once per turn clause. Ageha Yusa, guest judge for the day, explains that the "Darklords" can force the activation of their Spells/Traps, thus circumventing the clause. On the sideline, Kuroda and Saiko discuss how this matchup doesn't favor Tsukiko at all - her Deck is based around stopping her opponent's Traps, but Des can get around that by using her monsters to activate their effects from the Graveyard.

Finally, she uses the effect of "Darklord Uprising" (a Trap) in her Graveyard to perform a Fusion Summon. Using "Darklord Morningstar" in her hand, as well as "Ixchel" and "Superbia" on her field, Des Fusion Summons "The First Darklord". Since it used "Morningstar" as Material, Des uses its effect to destroy all of Tsukiko's cards, leaving her wide open to a direct assault. And with more than 8000 ATK between the monsters on her field, this will be the end of the Duel. Shoma cheers his teammate on as "The First Darklord" launches his "Dawn Requiem".

However, when the smoke clears, Tsukiko's two monsters are still standing, after she used her "Everlasting Alloy" to protect them from effect destruction at the last second. She turns to Shoma to see his reaction, but Shoma can only say, "Dagnabbit!" for his teammate's plight, to Tsukiko's growing anger. Jukyu, who, unlike Shoma, isn't completely blind to the finer details, turns to Shoma and advises him to tone it down on cheering on Des. Shoma wonders why, as it's only natural that he cheer on his teammate, to which Jukyu admits that yes, he does have that right; however, deep down, Jukyu senses a great evil stirring. Des, undeterred, presses on by attacking with her monsters, destroying Tsukiko's two monsters and reducing her LP to 4400. Annoyed that she couldn't get the OTK, Des ends her turn.

Tsukiko dejectedly begins her turn, lamenting on how annoying it all is. At the same time, Des uses the Quick Effects of her cards to build an even stronger board than what she ended with last turn - her Perfect Paradise. Tsukiko continues thinking about how annoying it is, seeing "Ukoback" and "Superbia" and the rest come back from the Graveyard over and over again. Kuroda and Tendo agree - with five monsters on the field against Tsukiko's field of no cards, it's game over now. Shoma notes that with "Darklord Rebellion" also in her Graveyard, she can destroy a monsters on Tsukiko's field at any point during this turn. And with that, he, rather loudly, wishes Des good luck on the rest of the Duel.

Tsukiko's aura blackens. She loudly declares that she's sick of hearing about "Des this and Des that!" She begins her turn with "Armageddon Knight", and uses its effect to send "Jinzo - Returner" to the Graveyard, whose effect she uses to revive "Jinzo - Jector" from her Graveyard. Des decides that she can't allow "Jector" to remain in play, and uses her monsters to activate "Darklord Rebellion" in her Graveyard, destroying it before it can come into play. Tsukiko, blood veins popping from her head from how far her mood has fallen, loudly declares that her turn's not finished yet.

Light(?) Tsukiko activates "Inferno Reckless Summon". This will allow her to Summon as mnay copies of the same monster she just Summoned to her field as possible, while Des will be able to do the same with any one of her monsters. However, the name of "Jinzo - Jector" is also treated as "Jinzo" while it is on the field, allowing Tsukiko to Summon all three of her "Jinzo" to her field immediately, to Des' shock. On the sidelines, Tendo notices that Kuroda has started trembling - tears in his eyes, Kuroda realizes more than anyone that Tsukiko has gone off the deep end completely. Tsukiko pants like a rabid animal, while Des, now noticing a certain change in demeanor, changes to defensive tactics and Summons another "Superbia", then using the "Darklord Rebellion" effect to instead destroy a "Jinzo".

Dark Tsukiko declares that this pointless Duel ends now, as she Tributes "Jector" to add to her hand, and subsequently Special Summon by its own effect, "Jinzo the Machine Menace". She then attacks "The First Darklord" with "The Machine Menace". Jukyu wonders if Tsukiko might have completely lost her mind by performing such an action. But Tsukiko's patience for today has worn thin - she activates "Limiter Removal", doubling the ATK of all her "Jinzo". With her "Hyper Cyber Energy Shock", she wipes "The First Darklord" from the face of the earth. With her remaining two "Jinzo", she vaporizes two more Darklords, reducing Des' LP firmly to 0. Ageha declares the first winner of the final round to be Light Tsukiko, as Tsukiko herself stands panting, darkened aura almost visible to all.

Featured Duel[edit]

Des controls "Darklord Superbia" (L8|2900/2400) in Defense Position. Light Tsukiko controls "Jinzo - Layered" (R6|2400/1500|OU 1) in Attack Position, as well as Des' "Darklord Ixchel" (L10|2500/2900) in Defense Position. Both players have 8000 LP remaining, and it is Tsukiko's turn.

Turn 2: Light Tsukiko
Tsukiko activates "Cosmos Channelling" and activates its effect, Tributing the "Darklord Ixchel" she took from Des to Special Summon "Jinzo" (L6|2400/1500) from her Graveyard in Attack Position. While "Jinzo" is on the field, all Traps on the field have their effects negated, and they cannot be activated or have their effects activated. She Sets a card in her Spell & Trap Zone.

Turn 3: Des
As she draws a card, Tsukiko activates the second effect of "Cosmos Channelling" to declare a card type (Monster, Spell, or Trap). If the drawn card is that type, she will "Cosmos Channelling" to the Graveyard to draw a card. She declares monster, and the drawn card is "Darklord Ukoback", so Tsukiko sends her card away and draws a card. Des Normal Summons "Darklord Ukoback" (L3|700/100). Since it was Normal Summoned, she activates its effect to send a "Darklord" card from her Deck to the Graveyard. She sends "Darklord Uprising". She then sets "Darklord Ukoback" and "Darklord Superbia" (2 Fairy monsters) in the Link Arrows to Link Summon "Condemned Darklord" (1500|↙ ↘) in the Extra Monster Zone.

She activates the effect of "Condemned Darklord", sending a card from her hand ("Darklord Nasten") to the Graveyard take a "Darklord" card from her Deck, and either add it to her hand or send it to the Graveyard. She adds "Darklord Morningstar" to her hand. She then activates the effect of "Darklord Amdusc" in her hand, discarding it and "Darklord Tezcatlipoca" to add a "Darklord" card in her Graveyard to her hand. She adds "Darklord Contact", which she subsequently activates to Special Summon a "Darklord" monster from her Graveyard in Defense Position. She Special Summons "Darklord Superbia". Since it was Special Summoned from the Graveyard, she activates its effect to Special Summon a Fairy monster from her Graveyard. She Special Summons "Darklord Tezcatlipoca" (L9|2800/2100).

She activates the effect of "Darklord Tezcatlipoca", paying 1000 LP (Des: 8000 → 7000 LP) to choose a "Darklord" Spell/Trap in her Graveyard, apply its effect, then shuffle it into her Deck. She uses the effect of "Darklord Contact" to Special Summon "Darklord Ixchel" from her Graveyard in Defense Position, then shuffles "Darklord Contact" into her Deck. Des activates the effect of "Darklord Ixchel", paying 1000 LP to apply the effect of "Darklord Uprising" in her Graveyard (without needing to fulfill its activation cost). Using "Darklord Morningstar" in her hand, as well as "Darklord Ixchel" and "Darklord Superbia" on her field, as Fusion Material to Fusion Summon "The First Darklord" (L12|4000/4000). Since it used "Darklord Morningstar" as material, she activates its effect to destroy all cards Tsukiko controls; however, Tsukiko activates her Set "Everlasting Alloy", preventing her Machine monsters from being destroyed by card effects this turn.

Des attacks and destroys "Jinzo" and "Jinzo - Layered" with "The First Darklord" and "Darklord Tezcatlipoca", respectively, then attacks her directly with "Condemned Darklord" (Tsukiko: 8000 → 6400 → 6000 → 4400 LP). During the End Phase, the effect of "Condemed Darklord" activates, increasing Des' LP by 500 for each Fairy monster on the field (Des: 6000 → 7500 LP).

Turn 4: Light Tsukiko
Des activates the Quick Effect of "The First Darklord", paying 1000 LP (Des: 7500 → 6500 LP) to Special Summon a Fairy monster from her Graveyard in Defense Position. She Special Summons "Darklord Superbia" from her Graveyard. Since it was Special Summoned from the Graveyard, she activates its effect to Special Summon "Darklord Ukoback" from her Graveyard in Defense Position. Since it was Special Summoned, she activates its effect to send "Darklord Rebellion" from her Deck to the Graveyard.

Tsukiko Normal Summons "Armageddon Knight" (L4|1400/1200), then activates its effect to send a DARK monster from her Deck to the Graveyard. She sends "Jinzo - Returner". Since it was sent to the Graveyard, she activates its effect to Special Summon a "Jinzo" from her Graveyard. She Special Summons "Jinzo - Jector" (L4|800/2000), whose name is treated as "Jinzo" on the field or in the Graveyard. In response, Des activates the Quick Effect of "Darklord Tezcatlipoca", paying 1000 LP (Des: 6500 → 5500 LP) to apply the effect of "Darklord Rebellion" in her Graveyard, then shuffle it into the Deck. In response to that, Tsukiko activates the Quick-Play Spell "Inferno Reckless Summon". Since she Special Summoned a monster with 1500 or less ATK, she can Special Summon as many monsters with the same name as that monster from her hand, Deck, and/or Graveyard, but Des will be allowed to Special Summon as many monsters with the same name as a monster she already controls.

Tsukiko Special Summons three copies of "Jinzo" in Attack Position, while Des Special Summons a second copy of "Darklord Superbia" in Defense Position. The effect of "Darklord Tezcatlipoca" resolves, and Des uses the effect of "Darklord Rebellion" to destroy one of the three "Jinzo" Tsukiko controls. Tsukiko activates the effect of "Jinzo - Jector", Tributing it to add a "Jinzo" monster from her Deck to her hand. She adds "Jinzo the Machine Menace" (L7|2400/1500). Since there is a Trap face-up on the field or in a Graveyard, she activates the effect of "Jinzo the Machine Menace" in her hand, Special Summoning it in Attack Position.

Tsukiko attacks "The First Darklord" with "Jinzo the Machine Menace". During the Damage Step, Tsukiko activates the Quick-Play Spell "Limiter Removal", doubling the ATK of all Machine monsters she controls (all three "Jinzo" monsters: 2400 → 4800 ATK). The attack continues, and "The First Darklord" is destroyed (Des: 5500 → 4700 LP). Tsukiko attacks and destroys "Darklord Tezcatlipoca" and "Condemned Darklord" with her two "Jinzo" (Des: 4700 → 2700 → 0).
