"Rush Duel Rescue", known as "The Truth Behind the KGC" in the Japanese version is the eighty-eighth episode of the Yu-Gi-Oh! SEVENS anime. It first aired in Japan on February 27, 2022. It became available for streaming on Hulu August 21, 2023 in America.

The new Duel Rules have been damaging the Duel Program on the moon. Nail suggests a complete shutdown of the control system in order to prevent the destruction of the Duel Program. To shut down the system, the power lurking inside Luke will be necessary.

Summary[edit]

Luke stands tall in a kingly costume, stating his name twice and declaring himself the King of Luke Kingdom. He recaps that new Dueling rules are being created one after the other and Gavin, Romin and others also lost their memories, a huge problem, and he remembers Gavin, Romin, Nail and Asana all recovering their memories. He proclaims that in the end they remembered they were the loyal servants of the Great King of Space, King of Luke Kingdom (deluding himself as seeing Yuga and Gavin bowing to him, Romin as his maid and Kaizo as his server). In reality Luke is making his proclamations from atop the Road Laboratory and suggests they do something about this era of Dueling turbulence, and Yuga wonders how he got things so wrong, while Romin is insulted by the insinuation she's Luke's servant and Gavin flatly tells a sheepish Luke he's rewriting history. Luke laughs and tells them not to sweat the small stuff, so Romin tries to get them back on track, noting they need to do something about the Goha Enterprises Drones on the moon. Kaizo promptly praises her thinking and Yuga notes the system will soon be overloaded at the rate new rules are being created. Yuo's voice tells them he has news to share regarding that, and after they look around for him he tells them to look up, the shadow of Star Six falling over them.

Meanwhile Yuga Goha is wandering through Goha City with his head in one hand, angrily asking why things aren't going his way and why these strange memories keep appearing as he remembers playing Duel Monsters happily with his siblings. He asks what these strange memories are and wonders where Dohl, Nana and the others have gone. As Yuga stumbles out onto the street a limousine pulls up beside him, and the pale-skinned blonde driver tells him she's here to pick him up. Soon Yuga is in the back seat of the car, commenting it was nice of them to send a car to pick him up, but then he wonders how the driver knew where he was. The driver doesn't initially respond until Yuga directly addresses her, saying "Resentment and malice" in a singsong voice as gas fills the sectioned-off backseat, Yuga barely getting out a word before falling unconscious as the limousine vanishes.

Yuga suddenly wakes to find himself strapped to a figure-shaped slab of stone, surrounded by stone sculptures and six figures, and he asks angrily who they are. They all laugh in unison, and the limousine driver emerges in front of a flame-shaped sculpture singing "Resentment and malice" again, revealing she resembles Celestia Noodlina, Terra Kneadalina, Prioria Sweetalina and Oceania Illumilina, announcing "Take me higher!" in English and introducing herself as Ghostia Taxilina. Yuga repeats her name and demands to know why he's been brought here, and Ghostia replies he isn't just anywhere, but in the Nanahoshi Insect Ninja Village. Yuga gasps "What?" and he looks around, seeing Prioria Sweetalina standing in front of a dogū sculpture, Celestia Noodlina standing in front of a bowl-shaped sculpture, Oceania Illumilina lazing by a fish-shaped sculpture, Terra Kneadalina standing by a sculpture of a hand giving the thumbs up, and finally a sixth girl who declares "combine" as she stands in a mecha suit above a sculpture in the shape of a semi-truck. Yuga gasps as he spots Kabuto Bito, Kirihito Kamagaya and Nana Nanahoshi tied up outside the circle formed by the six girls, and angrily asks why they've done this and what they want. The six girls laugh in unison and separate as a shadowy figure walks towards Yuga, who recognizes the figure.

On Star Six, Yuo tells Yuga, Luke, Romin, Gavin and Kaizo that he completed an analysis on the SEVENS book after regaining his memories and uncovered a horrible truth in doing so. He recounts the story; a young sorcerer sought out six companions under the guidance of an old man to save a world in turmoil, and the "SEVENS" as they were called, stepped forth from the darkness, carving open the earth, splitting the sea, crossing the flames, shaking the heavens with wind and using the light of the constellations to journey to their final destination, the moon, where the Lord of Chaos resided. Gavin, Yuga and Romin gasp, Gavin and Romin realizing how similar the story is to their current situation, and Yuo tells them the six companions fell in battle against the Lord of Chaos, leavin only the young sorcerer to realize the Lord of Chaos was actually the old man who had guided them. The old man mercilessly told the sorcerer that a world in chaos had to be destroyed, and the young sorcerer had already carved open that road by destroying darkness, earth, water, fire, wind and light, and now he had to destroy what remained, the moon, to complete the Sevens Road. Hearing this, the young sorcerer shed tears as he destroyed the moon. The story ends there and Luke uninterestingly asks if it's some old legend, calling it a boring ending. Gavin admonishes him, pointing out it's their current situation and Romin asks if this means Otes is the old man who wants to destroy the world, before she and Gavin realize Yuga likely represents the young sorcerer and they both look at him without finishing their sentence. Yuga looks at his friends and states that he isn't sure if the story is true or if it has a different meaning but he wants to protect Dueling no matter what. Luke and Yuo are pleased by his answer and Yuo snaps his fingers to bring up a holoscreen showing the lunar Drones building the structures for the new Dueling rules, noting the Goha Duel Server can't take much more of this so they must stop the Drones as soon as possible. Gavin and Romin stand up to join Yuga, Gavin asking if they'll learn the truth afterwards and Romin asking how they can even stop the Drones.

Nail appears on another holoscreen and confirms they can, and he'll tell them how this providence has come to be. He explains the Drones are operated as part of Goha City's control system, and Yuga realizes what Nail means; Nail confirms they just need to shut down the system in Goha City itself. Yuo asks Nail to do so immediately, but Nail states they can't: Goha City's control system has three backups, a main, secondary and reserve in addition to protection by numerous failsafe mechanisms. Yuga asks what they can even do, and Nail confirms that they have a chance. Yuga and Luke ask what that chance is -

- but before Nail can respond, Yuga Goha appears on another holoscreen demanding answers, and Luke agrees before realizing it's Swirls. Everyone in the room gasps in shock and Luke asks Swirls what he's doing there, but Nail explains it isn't a two-way broadcast, but a videostream instead and the Rush Duel Club gasp in shock. The camera filming Yuga Goha pulls out and Romin recognizes the man in the white coat standing there, and then the camera changes to another view, revealing the man is indeed Otes. Yuga Goha angrily asks what Otes is after, pointing out his memories were supposed to be wiped and Otes comments that his acting must have been pretty good as the six girls film the scene, Oceania, Celestia and Terra holding lightning panels, Prioria the boom mike, and Oceania a microphone. Yuga Goha asks if "Monster Reborn's" ritual didn't work and he asks why, and Otes claims it's simple, as he was the one who created "Monster Reborn". Yuga Goha gasps and Otes explains it was originally created for the sake of people like Yuga Goha who didn't have the courage to Duel. Yuga Goha dismisses the idea he could ever be so weak and Otes comments that he must be aware given that scenes of the past are coming back to him. Yuga Goha remembers playing Duel Monsters with his siblings and he asks in shock if those are his memories of his past, and Otes laughs, telling Yuga Goha he is who he is because of his past, something Otes understands painfully well. As Yuga Goha struggles futilely against his bonds, Otes tells him he's done as well as he expected and Dueling will soon be erased because of him. Yuga Goha asks why Otes would even want that, and Otes appears to begin to tell him, much to the anticipation of everyone watching his stream, but then he claims it's a secret and cuts the feed, much to Luke's disappointment.

Yuo asks if Nail traced the call and Nail admits he couldn't, Yuo muttering that of course Otes would have prevented that. Gavin notes this means Swirls was being manipulated by Otes and Yuo states they now know what was written in SEVENS was true; Otes wants to destroy a world in turmoil. Romin notes the only way to stop it is to stop the Drones and Luke asks Nail what the chance was he'd tried to mention. Nail states their chance is Luke himself.

They adjorn to the roof of the Goha Enterprises Main Office as Nail explains that it's impossible to shut down Goha City's control systems with a software attack, so their only option is physical destruction. Luke stands near the edge of the platform as Yuga notes that his Pauli effect is the only hope to shut down the electronics. Romin tells Luke they're counting on him and Gavin notes the Goha Enterproses Main Office is in the center of Goha City, so it will be the best place for Luke to use the Pauli effect. Luke reassures them they can leave it to him and strikes a pose as he screams "Let's go! Luke Devil!" But despite his friends' screams of anticipation, nothing happens...other than Kaizo falling to the ground with a shriek. Romin is horrified that only Kaizo was affected, though Yuga reminds her he can just fix Kaizo later and urges Luke to continue. Luke agrees and yells "Luke Devil!" again, but again nothing happens despite his continued screams. Once Luke has screamed himself hoarse, Mimi suddenly bursts onto the platform and cries that it's an emergency. Luke thinks his power has finally worked, but it turns out to have affected a vending machine that is now spewing cans of drink. Romin and Yuga realize Luke was responsible and Mimi mistakes their English for "hacking", protesting that's illegal. Nail appears on a holoscreen and asks for their results, Yuga replying it didn't work. Nail muses that he sees, though he's uncovered an interesting providence and asks them to head to the location he gives them. Yuga asks where it is.

Soon they've relocated to Goha #7 Elementary and Nail brings up a holoscreen and explains that the Pauli effect Luke created was small, but he observed a wave of energy resonating with it; something 77 meters under Goha #7 Elementary is amplifying the Pauli effect. Gavin comes running over with the blueprints of Goha #7 Elementary from back when it was built and shows them the field they're currently standing on, marked with a staircase leading to a basement. Romin asks where the entrance is and Yuga notes that it's likely underground. Asana's voice tells them they can skip the formalities as she, Galian, Schubel (and Pidgetrap) all arrive on their Heavy Cavalry flanked by other students of the Heavy Cavalry Duel Club. Yuga is pleased to see them and Asana tells him Nail explained what was happening, stating they're their best bet if they need something excavated and vowing to show them the power of R6 Kai, Yuga thanking Asana.

Their digging continues well into the evening, but eventually they uncover the door to the staircase a few meters beneath them. Yuga opens it and suggests they enter. Using their Duel Disks as lights, Yuga leads Gavin, Luke, Romin and Asana down the stairs, Gavin commenting that they always seem to end up underground and Luke recalling they went underground at the Goha Enterprises Main Building too, remembering Tracker leading him, the Newspaper Club and the rest of the Luke Division to the abandoned factory. Luke remembers Swirls was with them and Yuga suggests they hurry so they can get back those fun days, Luke eagerly agreeing. They reach a large hexagonal stone door and Luke wonders what could be behind it, though Gavin is skeptical they're in the right place until Nail confirms the disturbance is behind the door. Luke tries to push it, but naturally it doesn't budge, so at his interpretation of Gavin's suggestion he tries pulling it, but notes a smooth surface can't be pulled as he wipes away part of a logo. Asana adds the staircase was too narrow for her Heavy Cavalry as well, but then Romin spots the logo Luke uncovered - Kallister Gears, Luke's family and the company that helped construct Goha City alongside Mutsuba Heavy Machinery, as Gavin, Romin and Asana note. Yuga asks what it's doing here, but Luke has spotted another carving and wipes the dust away to reveal an indent with a curved ridge and four holes that he recognizes in fear.

Tiger's bassoon crashes into the stone behind them and Asana gasps her friend's nickname, while Luke promptly tries to hide on the ledge and he asks his big sister why she's here, and how she got in. Vance walks up behind Tiger and explains there were two entrances, Luke asking what his great-grandfather is doing here. Vance apologizes for keeping them waiting (despite Luke pointing out they weren't waiting for her) but then he spots Asana and asks if that's her, telling her she's grown so much. Asana bows and politely tells Valencian it's been too long, though Vance tells her to use his nickname and reminisces on being classmates with her great-grandfather and Dueling together until Luke snaps that's ancient history and asksing why there are two entrances. Vance admits the other entrance is in the Kallister family mansion and he and Tiger explain they have the key to the vault; Tiger shakes her hair aside to reveal a knuckleduster clipped to her corset. Yuga and Romin realize it's the shape of the lock and Vance confirms they can open it by gently sliding the brass knuckkles into it...though Tiger just puts them on and breaks the massive door down with a cry of "BREATH!" Yuga and his friends can only watch impressed as Vance walks up to Tiger and reminds her he said gently, though Tiger brushes it off as boring.

They enter the room, Luke wondering what's inside, and it turns out to contain hundreds of wooden crates. Romin and Luke open them to find a pile of watches like Luke's, and Vance explains Goha Enterprises commissioned him to create these watches a long time ago, but they turned out to be defective, so he stashed them in the warehouse as he didn't want to throw them away. Gavin asks if defective watches are all that's in the room and Vance confirms they are, much to Yuga's shock, though Luke has finally noticed his watch is the same as the ones in the crates and asks his great-grandfather if it's the same. Vance explains he'd been going through his closet and found a watch he'd forgotten to put in storage, so he decided to give it to Luke. Luke is appalled at the notion of owning a defective watch, and Vance tries to explain, but Nail appears on a holoscreen and asks if there's a device in the room that can amplify the energy. Yuga admits they can't see one and Nail admits that it's unfortunate, deciding it must have been a system malfunction. Luke grabs a watch in frustration, asking if they can't do anything; he can't help Swirls and all he can do is sit on his feet and watch Dueling disappear (Gavin has to tell him he means sit on his hands).

Tiger tells Luke not to get so worked up and Luke angrily asks why with what will happen to Swirls and their Duels. Tiger is intrigued by Luke using the term "their" and comments that Luke really doesn't understand his own feelings, much to Luke's confusion. Tiger comments that Luke doesn't want to take over the family business and has been using Dueling to escape that, and Luke gasps in shock as Tiger points out he's said before how he hates gears and doesn't want to be a cog in society. Luke narrows his eyes as Tiger states that Dueling has been nothing more than an escape from reality for him and suggests this might be a great opportunity for Luke to face reality if he thinks Dueling will be destroyed. Luke gasps "big sister" and Asana warns Tialina she's going too far, Romin agreeing and Yuga stating they've never turned their back on reality, but have always looked and moved forward. Tiger bursts out laughing at their naïvity and tells them to look at the reality around them; they had a hard enough time just finding these janky watches (Vance isn't happy at Tiger calling them janky, but Tiger tells him to be quiet). Luke turns away still holding the other watch and Tiger tells Yuga that she'll only tell him once; he's nothing but an elementary schooler who was manipulated by Otes and now he can't stop Dueling from disappearing and this is reality.

Yuga and his friends gasp in shock, and Luke crushes the watch's packaging in his hand, shaking in anger as he states Tiger can call Luke an idiot all she wants, but she absolutely cannot say that to Yuga. His friends watch in admiration as he yells he won't forgive Tiger for saying that, though Tiger asks when she ever called Yuga an idiot and Luke realizes she's right, though he warns her he hasn't forgotten when she beat Yuga up as they remember Yuga's loss to Tiger at the Nanahoshi Insect Ninja Village. Tiger snaps she'll do the same to Luke, commenting he should be happy to be matched with him, and Vance tries to break them up, protesting siblings shouldn't fight, but Tiger tells him to stay out of this and he sidles away. Tiger tells Luke to prove her wrong with his own version of reality if he's so adamant as she takes out her Duel Disk, asking if Luke thinks he can. Luke takes out his own Duel Disk, declaring he can and will as Yuga, Romin, Asana, Gavin and Vance all watch quietly. Luke and Tiger insert their Decks into their Duel Disks with a cry of "Rush Duel!" and deploy the blades, blue fire erupting around Luke in the shape of a dragon and orange around Tiger in the shape of a tiger.
