The layout in the box below is used character articles. It can be copied and pasted when starting a new article. Any text in red italics here are instructions and should be replaced with what they say.

It is not an exact layout. Some character articles have more features than the ones listed and some have less.

Infobox[edit]

Additional infobox parameters which are not listed here can be seen at Template:Infobox/Yu-Gi-Oh!/Character.

Introduction[edit]

The introduction should be a few paragraphs giving an introduction to the character. Some things worth covering here include:

  • Names the character is commonly known as in different media.
  • What series the character is originally from.
  • A brief description of their role in the series.

Design[edit]

Information about a character's design should be placed here. Should an image of that character's lineart be variable, it can be put in this section.

Subsections can (but do not have to) include "Appearance" for the character's physical description, including attire. "Voice/Mannerisms" for any catch phrases or defining mannerisms the character may have and information on Japanese pronouns used. "Personality" for information pertaining tot he character's personality, including why they have that personality. "Abilities" for any special powers the character may have. Finally, "Etymology" is used for information pertaining to the origin of the character's name.

Biography[edit]

Writing style[edit]

The biography should be a summary of everything known to have happened in the character's life.

It should be written in the order the events happened in the character's life, not the order they were revealed in the series. e.g. if a flashback of the characters childhood is shown in the series, the events shown in the flashback should be included somewhere near the start of the biography, not at the time the character had the flashback.

The biography should be narrated like the character is a real person. It shouldn't keep referring to the series, the audience or the fact that character is fictional.

  • Incorrect: In episode 3, Weevil threw Yugi's "Exodia" cards overboard.
  • Correct: On the boat to Duelist Kingdom, Weevil threw Yugi's "Exodia" cards overboard.

The first case above does not read like a biography. Episode numbers can be mentioned without disrupting the flow of the biography, through the use of references. (See below).

An exception to this would be when describing differences between the English version and the Japanese version or the anime and manga. In which case, two different events may occur and it is necessary to post some explanation of which version which event occurred in. If these cases are two frequent, it may be worth posting separate biographies for the manga and the anime.

Subsections[edit]

For some biographies, particularly characters who appear in a large number of episodes, it is necessary to divide their biography into subsections.

This is done by enclosing the name of the subsection within a pair of triple equals signs above its section. For example:

==Biography==
===Childhood===
Events from the character's childhood.

===Duelist Kingdom===
The character's participation in the Duelist Kingdom tournament.

===Battle City===
The character's participation in the Battle tournament

The name of the storyline is a common choice a subsection. The following are official names given to storylines. They do not necessarily have to be used as subsections. There are more smaller storylines, whose names are not listed.

Deck[edit]

The Deck section should contain information about the character's Decks, such as what strategies they use and type of cards they use.

The Decklist should be given using:

{{Decklist
|monsters =
* Bulleted list of Monster Cards
|spells =
* Bulleted list of Spell Cards
|traps =
* Bulleted list of Trap Cards
}}

If a character use multiple Decks, the above template should be used multiple times. To assign a name or description of the Deck, the following can be used. It is not necessary if the character only uses 1 Deck.

{{Decklist|Name or description of the Deck
|monsters =
* Bulleted list of Monster Cards
|spells =
* Bulleted list of Spell Cards
|traps =
* Bulleted list of Trap Cards
}}

See Template:Decklist for information on customizing Decklists. For consistency, the use of custom colors for character's Decklists is discouraged.

References[edit]

References are a list of sources and evidence of facts mentioned in the article.

The references section only needs to contain <references /> That will automatically change to a list of references used throughout the page.

To add a reference place <ref>Source of information</ref> next to a fact. To list an episode as a source use <ref>{{episode|Name of the series|Episode number|ref}}</ref> To list a chapter as a source use <ref>{{chapter|Name of the series|Chapter number|ref}}</ref>

Notes[edit]

  1. The Japanese names are taken from volume 1 of the bunkoban.
