Golden Key

The following discussion is preserved as an archive of a successful request for adminship. Please do not modify it.
Nomination

Requires "Delete" quite a lot and is probably online in one of the timeslots when there are no other admins online. -Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 11:20, October 23, 2012 (UTC)

I graciously accept. --Golden Key (talkcontribs) 12:48, October 23, 2012 (UTC)

Questions for the candidate

Dear candidate, thank you for offering to serve as an administrator. Please answer the following four questions to provide guidance for participants:

1. What administrative work do you intend to take part in?
A: Deletion of images that are not related to this site or when there is a better copy available. Sometimes a better copy of an existing image is erroneously uploaded under an improper name, and I would now be able to delete the image so that the new one could be moved to the correct name, with the history then revised.
At times vandals have moved articles to new names, and I have been unable to move them back to the correct areas. Admin tools would allow me to undo such vandalism.
Also mentioned in my nomination, I am sometimes online when admins seem to be absent; at these times I could assist with the deletion of vandalism. I understand that IP addresses should not usually be given long blocks, and often a 24 hour one will suffice to stop them from bothering the site. I also understand the concept of good-faith edits, and would not give overly serious punishment to someone who seems to genuinely be trying to help the site. In the past I often explain to users on their talkpages why we do or do not do certain things on the site, and I will continue to do so before taking disciplinary action if a person's intentions seem good.
2. What do you consider to be your best contributions, and why?
A: Admittedly I'm more of a fixer than a creator. I've made many grammar corrections, uploaded better main images for episodes, undone lots of vandalism, and I regularly contribute to discussions on how to improve the site, such as with page renames. I've worked on archetype and series pages quite a bit, too, so some people may see that as one of my areas of expertise.
3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or have other users caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
A: I don't get into conflicts very often, or at the very least I do not initiate them. Minor things have occurred, such as on the Card Tips:Des Frog page, where I've stopped before an edit war begins and contacted the user and another party to try to get things sorted out. The biggest thing to bother me was from a while back, when Leo's page was heavily insinuating incestuous feeling between the twins. Eventually I was able to work with the individual until we got the article to a more "neutral" position. That user has grown, in my opinion, to be very helpful around the site, so I'm glad I kept my cool with him.
4. Do you regularly contribute to any other wikis? Are you an administrator or bureaucrat on any of them, or do you have accounts with similar roles on forums, blogs, etc.? Could you provide links, if so?
A: I've made a handful of small edits around other sites, but this is really my base of operations. I recently was out of the blue given admin rights on Zikipedia, a site I've never actually edited on; I guess someone saw me editing somewhere else and assumed I know what I'm doing...

Other editors may post optional questions for the candidate here.

Questions from Deltaneos

Sorry, late questions. I just remembered you could be the first user given adminship after administrators were given the ability to add and remove mover and rollback rights, so I feel I should ask something about that. -- Deltaneos (talk) 00:40, November 9, 2012 (UTC)

5. If a well-intentioned user posts a request for either of those permissions, under what circumstances do you think it's appropriate to accept or reject their request?
A: I probably wouldn't give the right(s) unless they have a substantial number of edits related to the right(s) they are requesting. If they can provide proof of using such rights responsibly on other sites it may also be sufficient to grant them here as well. In the case of rollback, they would need to know the times to use it (i.e. undoing obvious vandalism). I'll need to check talk pages and recent edits; someone who regularly undoes the work of other well-intentioned users without explaining why should not receive the rights until they've shown more responsibility.
6. If you think a user is misusing either of these permissions, what steps might you take?
A: In the case of a user misusing their rights, I would first contact them and explain to them the problem. If a user does not respond and continues to misuse the ability I would probably confer with the admin who gave them the rights, if it wasn't myself, to try to talk to them. If the misuse is still continued or is major, a temporary revocation would probably be in order, just until they respond that they will not continue the action. Taking away the rights of someone who's trying to be helpful isn't something I'd want to do unless they're causing more problems than they're fixing.

Support

  • He offers a substantial amount of time and effort to the Wiki, deals with situations very diplomatically and is overall quite a friendly person as well.--YamiWheeler (talkcontribs) 11:33, October 23, 2012 (UTC)
