Nomination

A long-time user, who shows the ability to adapt to new changes with surprising speed. We completely went and changed the format of how anime and manga card lores work. Who fixed most of them, editing out all the work he'd already done when we used an old style? UltimateKuriboh did. Has shown to be trustworthy of the responsibilities in using both his mover and rollback rights.

Adminship you say? Mmmm yes, why not (zoidberg)? --UltimateKuriboh (talkcontribs) 14:46, March 1, 2013 (UTC)

Questions for the candidate

Dear candidate, thank you for offering to serve as an administrator. Please answer the following four questions to provide guidance for participants:

1. What administrative work do you intend to take part in?
A: Deleting pages if necessary. Blocking vandals if necessary (with appropriate lengths). Interceding in conflicts while remaining as neutral as possible.
2. What do you consider to be your best contributions, and why?
A: By far, my pre-PSCT formatting of the anime/manga lore, as well as PSCT formatting of modern cards, some before they are released. Oh yes, and realizing the "Treasure Cards" series.
3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or have other users caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
A: I got into an edit war against a silent anon. Was reprimanded and learned my lesson. If I am unsuccessful at resolving the conflict, bring in another admin if necessary. Recent proof can be seen at User talk:Super Smasher 1.
4. Do you regularly contribute to any other wikis? Are you an administrator or bureaucrat on any of them, or do you have accounts with similar roles on forums, blogs, etc.? Could you provide links, if so?
A: Not any more. I used to contribute fuller details to the Runescape wiki, but that time has come and passed...

Other editors may post optional questions for the candidate here.

Questions from Deltaneos

Questions below. -- Deltaneos (talk) 22:52, March 6, 2013 (UTC)

5. In which of the following scenarios would you consider it okay and not okay to perform deletions without discussing the matter first? Have you any comments on any of the hypothetical scenarios?
  1. An article which has the page name of a legitimate topic, but the only edits to the page have been vandalism.
A: If no useful info comes to mind to replace the vandalism with, I would delete it.
  2. A rulings page containing only unofficial rulings.
A: If the ruling was poorly formatted, had bad grammar, and/or had no source, I would delete it. If it looked legitimate, I would ask confirmation from X-Metaman and/or Falzar if it was an OCG ruling, or ask Falzar and/or ATEMVEGETA if it was a TCG ruling.
  3. A page nominated for speedy deletion.
A: Examine the reason (if any). If none, examine whether the page has relevant info. If there is, determine whether reason is biased or not, and whether the page is vandalism or filled with unnecessary/pre-existing info. A quick look at the user who placed it (and the details of their history of contributions) wouldn't hurt either. If I am indecisive, change the template to a regular deletion notice and open discussion.
  4. An article nominated for deletion by its original author.
A: If it was a user sub-page, I would delete it immediately. However, if it was in the mainspace, I would let it remain if the info was good-quality and relevant. This is based on the argument that since the author published the information on this Wikia, they inherently gave permission for that information to be used by anyone on the Internet. (I would like confirmation of this afterwards, regardless of a successful nomination or not.)
Yeah, pretty much. As you gathered, it depends on the area of the site and the type of content, but also if other people have since edited the page. If other editors have made substantial edits, it should probably be kept or at least not deleted on sight.
If they create a straightforward card article that's only going to get recreated with the exact same info, there's not much point in deleting it. If they put a lot of effort into something more original and then change their mind about having it published here, it can be deleted as a favour. But you are right, if they submit it here, the site's licensing means it can be kept and even reused as long as proper attribution (e.g. name in page history) is given. -- Deltaneos (talk) 20:35, March 12, 2013 (UTC)
  5. 30 poorly formatted pages on a minor aspect of a video game.
A: Examine other videogame articles on this Wikia and see if they discuss it, and if so, how they discuss it. If not, I might consider merging them. If info is too scattered, I might delete it or ask a user acquainted with videogame articles (Goldie comes to mind, since they deal with Tag Force characters) what to do regarding it.
  6. An article on an alleged upcoming set, which contains no references.
A: Perform a search engine query and check NeoArkCradle. If nothing, delete the page, citing lack of reference. If the page is re-created again by the same user, delete it again citing same reason, but also tell the user they must provide a source if they wish for their page to remain.
  7. Articles that should no longer exist as a result of a recently proposed policy.
A: "Recently proposed" suggests it is not official yet. Wait for the policy to move into the mainspace and be placed under the "Policy" category, then delete relevant pages while citing policy.
  8. A trivia page containing only obscure details.
A: I would allow "this card is the first..." Similarities established between cards that don't seem to be related (by artwork, name, and sometimes effect) would be deleted. Of course, this is iffy, since there is a wide variety of trivia that could be claimed as "obsure," and there would be certain exceptions that don't fall under the blanket rule. This is why we need to establish a policy on this. Relationships to other media would be deleted, unless the card seems to have been inspired by a certain media (and there is relevant proof). An example of bad trivia can be seen here (there is no reason why it would be inspired by Stitch), and an example of good trivia can be seen here (other members of the Sparrow Family correlate to the characters of the same manga). In general, if the media is Japanese, that's is an indicator it is relevant.
  9. An unused image.
A: Check pages where it could potentially be used. If there is no room for the image, or there is no relevant page for the image to be placed, I would delete it.
  10. A copyright violation.
A: If attribution would solve the problem, I would do so. Otherwise, I would delete the page citing copyright violation. (Another question I would like a definitive answer to.)
  11. A page which has been flagged for deletion because it has a duplicate page.
A: Merge any relevant/useful information from that page to the duplicate page before deleting. If it is an image, make sure the duplicate image replaces all instances where the flagged image is being used before deleting.
6. Have there been much or any times where you would like to have had the ability to block a user who has been arguing with you?
A: Not so much arguing, but lack of response to warnings (which occurred here). I was getting ready to inform Golden Key since they had posted on the user's talk page before (and perhaps the user would listen to an admin), but thankfully they responded. On a side note, they still keep doing it... There was also an incident where I was getting exasperated in an argument, but in the end, I won (seen here). It helps bringing in another user to get a more detached perspective. I feel greater pleasure in winning an argument rather than banning the user, since the user would know I used a cheap shot to "win" the argument, and I wouldn't get any pleasure out of that. Present evidence, convince them to admit they are wrong, enjoy satisfaction. If I am proven wrong, I feel good with apologizing since it means I learned a new thing and will no longer make that mistake in the future.
7. If you must protect a page to stop an edit war, how might you determine which revision to lock the page on?
A: Make a quick judgment call, lock the page on that revision and state in "lock summary" to discuss it on talk page. If argument results in a different revision, change the page to that revision and unlock the page.
8 You mention that you want to replace all .jpg card images with .png images. What is the reason behind this and how do you plan on going about it?
A: For posterity. Granted, people may not be re-saving these images that much (which results in loss of quality in .jpgs), but if this were successful, it would solve that issue. It would also set firmer ground for the "suggested policy" of uploading card images in .png format (possibly solidifying it into mandatory policy). Method: Going in alphabetical order. Easiest method since any interested user would be assigned to 1 or more letters. I would create a sub-page telling users what to do, and let 'em at it (myself included). Movers would be preferred, in the case of incorrectly named files. As a side benefit, when the images are re-uploaded as .pngs, little image name errors such as hyphens could be rectified, and the OCG-TCG image template could be applied to all images in this uploading process.
9. Have you thought much about using the ability to grant and revoke mover and rollback from other accounts?
A: Yes I have. I feel that if the aforementioned project required movers, I would let other admins bestow those privileges, while I became more accustomed to my position. As of now, if I had to judge a user on this, I would see their history of contributions/moves, see if they seemed mature enough (based on edit summaries, users' talk pages, and/or their user page), and award accordingly.

Support

  • UltimateKuriboh has shown many capabilities on this wiki ranging across all the aspects. He is very adept at interpretting the various aspects of all pages. He has entered the chat on numerous occasions and is always shown to be kind and considerate. The extra tools would be of great benefit to him and it seems to be proven that users highly respect him. A great addition he would be - Yoda. :) --Spongebob456 Talk 16:43, March 1, 2013 (UTC)
  • I've personally been happy from what I've seen with UK's contributions. I think he'll make a fine administrator.--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 23:03, March 6, 2013 (UTC)
  • Support, UltimateKuriboh from what I can see would be a welcome addition. Shardsilver (talkcontribs) 17:49, March 7, 2013 (UTC)
  • The answers provided to the latest questions were very good, some better than I might have given. UK is often on at times when other Admins may not be, and his need for the delete function is noticeable. I can't imaging him knowingly abusing Admin rights, based on his past edits. The idea of implementing Png Conversion Corps is an interesting one; it would be a big task, but I can see a lot of good coming from it. Long story short: support. --Golden Key (talkcontribs) 19:02, March 8, 2013 (UTC)
  • Support, his answers to the questions here were just as good as had thought they would be. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 17:30, March 12, 2013 (UTC)

  • UK, you are a responsible, helpful and friendly individual. Almost certainly going to support, but you need to expand your answers. Tell us a few more ways having adminship tools will help you perform addition duties to what you already do. (Maybe look through past applications for ideas.) --Golden Key (talkcontribs) 14:27, March 6, 2013 (UTC)
In response to User:Golden Key: One of the major projects I have in mind is deleting all the .jpg images of cards and replacing them with .pngs (with the OCG-TCG card templates). Naturally, deleting would facilitate this process rather than flagging each and every one for deletion. If my project were successful, I feel that the Wiki would have an easier time of enforcing the suggested .png format for uploaded card images, and possibly make it a policy. And of course, I go through Trivia pages frequently and sometimes have the occasional need for a deletion.
There are times when no other frequent users are on other than Falzar and me, and at those times, I usually notice vandalism sooner than he does.
As another note, I plan on implementing the "Community Messages" hub at Special:WikiActivity (viewable only on Wikia skin), as no other admin seems to have used it, presumably because they are accustomed to Monobook. --UltimateKuriboh (talkcontribs) 17:16, March 6, 2013 (UTC)

  • Cheesedude beat me to it. I was planning to nominate him some time soon. He also requires the delete function quite a lot. -Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 04:17, March 1, 2013 (UTC)
