Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's

  • In the anime, "Black Rose Dragon" can destroy all cards on the field whenever it was Special Summoned, not only Synchro Summoned, and can reduce the ATK of an opposing monster the target is already in Attack Mode. While its effect is different in the anime, its text in the Japanese anime remains the same as the text on the OCG Japanese card.
  • When Summoning "Black Rose Dragon" Akiza says,"Chilling flames engulf the entire world. Pitch-dark flower, set into bloom! Synchro Summon! Appear now, Black Rose Dragon!".
  • In Japanese, its destruction effect name is Black Rose Gale, its attack reduction effect name is Rose Restriction and its attack name is "Black Rose Flare". Its attack name, while equipped with "Thorn of Malice", is Hate Rose Whip. In the dub, its attack reduction effect's name is Black Binding Bloom. When equipped with Thorn of Malice, the effect name is Black Rose Gale.
  • This card appears to represent Akiza as both have naturally beautiful appearances, but also have powerful and dangerous abilities. Its first effect represents how Akiza's abilities initially hurt other people around her while its second effect represents Akiza's ability to hurt people she Duels and leave them almost critically hurt.
  • In episode 14, this card is shown when the Black Rose attacked Daimon Area and the people that were there.
    • In this episode, this monster was silhouetted off with only its eyes and mouth being visible.
  • In episode 16, Akiza Izinski used this card in her Ground Duel against Gill Randsborg. She Synchro Summoned this monster by tuning "Wall of Ivy" with "Copy Plant", who was copying the Level of "Masked Knight LV5". After doing so, the spectators recognized her as the Black Rose. She then used this card's effect to destroy all cards on the field. This in turn destroys "Masked Knight LV5" and Randsborg's set "Sakuretsu Armor". On the final turn of the Duel, Akiza revived this monster via the last effect of "Black Garden". Randsborg wonders why she would do that as that means "Masked Knight LV7" regains the ATK it lost due to "Black Garden", thus making it stronger than this card. She then used this card's effect to banish "Wall of Ivy" and reduce "Masked Knight LV7's" ATK to 0, thus making it weaker than this card and rendering Randsborg's set "Martyr's Flag" useless from being used on "Masked Knight LV7". This card then attacks and

destroys "Masked Knight LV7", winning Akiza the Duel.

  • In episode 22, Akiza uses this card in her Ground Duel against Commander Koda. The latter declares this card's name for the effect of "Mind Monster". The latter card then inflicts damage to Akiza equal to half of this card's original ATK since it is in Akiza's Extra Deck. Akiza later Synchro Summoned this card by tuning her two Rose Tokens with her "Twilight Rose Knight". She then used this card's last effect to banish "Phoenixian Seed" and reduce the ATK of Koda's "Mad Profiler" to 0. This activates the effect of "Light Low Protection", destroying this card. This however allowed Akiza to activate "Rose Curse", inflicting damage to Koda equal to the difference between the current ATK of "Mad Profiler" and its previous ATK, winning Akiza the Duel.
  • In episode 23, this card is shown in a flashback when Yusei notes on how the marks on his, Jack's, Luna's and Akiza's arm seem to bring them together. This card is also shown on the sphere monitor when it showed Akiza summoning this card in her Ground Duel against Commander Koda.
  • In episode 24, Akiza used this card in her Ground Duel against Yusei Fudo. She Synchro Summons this card by tuning "Dark Verger" with "Copy Plant". Akiza then used this card's effect to banish "Wall of Ivy" and reduce "Junk Warrior's" ATK to 0 until the End Phase. This card then attacks "Junk Warrior", but Yusei banishes "Shield Warrior" to prevent "Junk Warrior" from being destroyed by battle this turn. Yusei then plays "Spirit Force" to reduce the Battle Damage he takes to 0. On Akiza's End Phase, this card's effect expires, returning the ATK of "Junk Warrior" to normal. On Yusei's turn, he Synchro Summons "Stardust Dragon" to the field. He then used "Stardust Dragon" to attack and destroy this card. On Akiza's turn, she revives this card with "Wicked Rebirth". She then activates this card's effect to destroy all cards out on the field, but Yusei Tributes "Stardust Dragon" to negate this card's effect and destroy it. On Akiza's End Phase, "Stardust Dragon" revives itself with its own effect. On the same End Phase, this card was revived due to "Wicked Rebirth's" effect. Akiza then used "Overdoom Line" to raise this card's ATK by 1000. Yusei then switches "Stardust Dragon" to Defense Position. He then equips "Stardust Dragon" with "Prevention Star" and targets "Phoenixian Cluster Amaryllis" for its effect. This prevents Phoenixian Cluster Amaryllis from attacking while "Prevention Star" is out. Akiza then uses "Synchro Back" to return this card to her Extra Deck. On Akiza's Standby Phase, this card is summoned back to the field due to the second effect of "Synchro Back". Akiza then activates this card's effect to destroy all cards out, but Yusei Tributes "Stardust Dragon" to negate this card's effect and destroy it. This gets rid of "Prevention Star" which would make Akiza free to attack Yusei directly with her "Phoenixian Cluster Amaryllis", however Yusei then activates "Cosmic Blast" to inflict damage to Akiza equal to the ATK of "Stardust Dragon", winning Yusei the Duel. Two copies of this card are also shown when "Card Defense" fully resolved.
  • In episode 36, Akiza used this card in her Ground Duel against an Arcadia dummy. This card then attacks and destroys the dummy's "The Fiend Megacyber", winning Akiza the Duel.
  • In episode 38, Akiza used this card in her Ground Duel against Misty Tredwell. She Synchro Summons this card by tuning "Lord Poison" with "Twilight Rose Knight". Misty then activates "Savage Colosseum" and then she activates "Field Barrier". She then summons "Reptile Gorgon" and then she equips it with "Attack Pheromones" and "Molting Escape". Misty then attacks this card with "Reptile Gorgon". Due to the effect of "Molting Escape", "Reptile Gorgon" is not destroyed by the attack, but Misty still takes Battle Damage. "Molting Escape" then increases the ATK of "Reptile Gorgon" by 100 at the end of the Damage Step. The effect of "Reptile Gorgon" then activates, reducing this card's ATK to 0 and preventing Akiza from changing this card's Battle Position. Misty then gains 300 Life Points as per the effect of "Savage Colosseum". In the next episode, "Savage Colosseum" forced Akiza to attack "Reptile Gorgon" with this card. The attack then backfires, destroying this card. Akiza then gains 300 Life Points as per the effect of "Savage Colosseum". Akiza then activated "Synchro Spirits", banishing this card to Special Summon "Twilight Rose Knight" and "Lord Poison" from the Graveyard to her side of the field. She then activated "Dimensional Regression", returning this card to her Extra Deck. Next she activates "Urgent Tuning", tuning "Lord Poison" with "Twilight Rose Knight" to Synchro Summon this card again. Akiza then activates this card's effect to destroy all cards on the field. Due to the effect of "Field Barrier", "Savage Colosseum" was not destroyed by this card's effect.
  • In episode 40, this card appeared in a flashback Jack has when he tells when he tells Akiza's father that Yusei is the only one who can open Akiza's heart. This card also appears in a flashback Akiza has when she remembers Dueling Yusei at the Fortune Cup. Akiza would later use this card in her Ground Duel against Yusei. She Synchro Summons this card by tuning 2 "Evil Thorns" and "Dark Verger" with "Twilight Rose Knight". She then equips this card with "Thorn of Malice", increasing its ATK by 600 and granting it the ability to inflict Piercing Damage. In the next episode, Akiza activates this card's effect, banishing an "Evil Thorn" in her Graveyard to switch "Shield Warrior" into Attack Position and reduce its ATK to 0. This card then attacks "Shield Warrior", but Yusei activates "Realize Defense" to switch "Shield Warrior" back into Defense Position. Due to "Thorn of Malice", "Shield Warrior" is not destroyed, but this card inflicts Piercing Damage to Yusei due to another effect of "Thorn of Malice". After Damage Calculation, "Thorn of Malice" decreases the ATK and DEF of "Shield Warrior" by 600(Since "Shield Warrior" had 0 ATK at the timing, it loses no ATK at this point). On the End Phase, this card's effect wears off, returning the ATK of "Shield Warrior" back to normal. Yusei then Synchro Summons "Stardust Dragon" to the field. "Black Rose Dragon" then attacks "Stardust Dragon". The latter is not destroyed due to "Thorn of Malice", but "Stardust Dragon" loses 600 ATK and DEF after Damage Calculation. Yusei then activates "Half Shut" to halve this card's ATK until the End Phase and grant it immunity to destruction by battle this turn. "Stardust Dragon" then attacks this card. Due to "Half Shut", this card is not destroyed, but Akiza still takes Damage. At the End Phase, the effect of "Half Shut" wears off, returning this card's ATK back to 3000. This card then attacks "Stardust Dragon". Due to "Thorn of Malice", "Stardust Dragon" is not destroyed, but it loses 600 ATK and DEF after Damage Calculation. On Akiza's next turn, this card attacks "Stardust Dragon", but Yusei activates "Defense Draw" to reduce the Damage to 0 and draw one card. Due to "Thorn of Malice", "Stardust Dragon" is not destroyed, but it loses 600 ATK and DEF after Damage Calculation. Akiza then activates "Wonder Clover" to allow this card to attack again. This card attacks "Stardust Dragon" again, but Yusei activates "Iron Resolve" to pay half his Life Points and take no Battle Damage from the attack. Due to "Thorn of Malice", "Stardust Dragon" is not destroyed, however it loses 600 ATK and DEF after Damage Calculation. Akiza then activates "Doom Petal Countdown". On Akiza's End Phase, she activates the effect of "Doom Petal Countdown" to banish an "Evil Thorn" from her Graveyard and inflict 300 damage to Yusei. Akiza intends to use "Doom Petal Countdown" to finish Yusei off next turn. Yusei later activates "Release Restraint Wave" to destroy all Spell and Trap Cards Akiza controls. With "Thorn of Malice" removed from the field, this card's ATK goes back to 2400. At the same time, "Stardust Dragon" regains all the ATK and DEF it lost due to "Thorn of Malice". "Stardust Dragon" then attacks this card, but Akiza discards "Hedge Guard" after Damage Calculation to prevent this card from being destroyed, however she still takes Battle Damage. After that happens, "Hedge Guard" halves this card's ATK until the End Phase. Yusei activates "Synchro Ring" to double his monster's ATK and allow it to attack again. "Stardust Dragon" then attacks and destroys this card, winning Yusei the Duel.
  • In episode 42, this card appears in a series of flashbacks Akiza has when she remembers that her powers became more and more intense due to the rage within her continuously growing. Goodwin claims that without those powers, none of the Signers would have met each other.
  • In episode 47, this card appears in a flashback explained by Mina. In this flashback, Rex Goodwin explained to Mina that he released the three cards given to him by Dr. Fudo into the wild. He then explains that the Signers will eventually use those three cards and serve the Crimson Dragon.
  • In episode 56, this card appeared in Rex Goodwin's backstory flashback which involved how he, his brother and Dr. Fudo created the original Ener-D Reactor and all of the events that led to Zero Reverse. When Roman revealed Dr. Fudo he broke the seals to the Control units to the Ener-D Reactor, Yusei quickly grabs the four Signer Dragons in Roman's hand and runs off. Roman's men fire at Dr. Fudo to stop him. One of the blasts hit Dr. Fudo, causing him to drop "Ancient Fairy Dragon". A wounded Dr. Fudo gives Rex the three Signer Dragons he saved and tells him to shut down the Ener-D Reactor. Rex agrees and goes to try and shut down the reactor.
  • In episode 58, this card was shown within the vision Carly shows to Jack when she claims this is what will happen when he loses and becomes one of the Dark Signers. Jack nearly got consumed by it until he notices Carly's broken glasses. This makes him realize that whatever he is seeing is not true and that the Duel has not ended yet.
  • In episode 60, Akiza used this card in her Ground Duel against Misty. Akiza Synchro Summons this card by tuning "Rose Fairy" with "Witch of the Black Rose". In the next episode, this card attacks and destroys "Dragon Queen of Tragic Endings". Misty then sends "Sad Story - Sorrowful Memories" from her field to the Graveyard in order to revive her "Dragon Queen of Tragic Endings". Misty then equips her "Dragon Queen of Tragic Endings" with "Reptilianne Rage", increasing its ATK by 800. "Dragon Queen of Tragic Endings" then attacks this card, but Akiza activates "Rose Blizzard" to negate the attack and switch "Dragon Queen of Tragic Endings" to Defense Position. Akiza then activates this card's effect, banishing "Rose Fairy" from the Graveyard in order to switch "Dragon Queen of Tragic Endings" to Attack Position and reduce its ATK to 0. This card then attacks and destroys "Dragon Queen of Tragic Endings". Since "Reptilianne Rage" was destroyed and sent to the Graveyard, Misty activates the second effect of "Reptilianne Rage", reducing this card's ATK by 800. Misty then sends "Sad Story - Unwavering Truth" from the field to the Graveyard in order to revive her "Dragon Queen of Tragic Endings". "Dragon Queen of Tragic Endings" then attacks and destroys this card. Due to the effect of "Dragon Queen of Tragic Endings", Akiza sends one card in her hand to the Graveyard and Misty draws one card. On the final turn, Akiza activates "Shining Rebirth" to send "Copy Plant"(who was Level 2 due to Akiza using its effect to have its Level become the same as "Dark Verger's"), "Dark Verger", and "Hedge Guard" from the field to the Graveyard in order to Synchro Summon(it was actually a Special Summon treated as a Synchro Summon) this card from the Graveyard to the field and grant it immunity to destruction this turn. Akiza then activates this card's effect to destroy all cards on the field, but Misty then activates "Doom Gazer" to inflict 300 damage to Akiza for every card that would be destroyed by this card's effect. Since seven cards will be destroyed, 2100 damage is inflicted to Akiza, but Akiza activates "Nature's Reflection" to redirect the damage back at Misty, winning Akiza the Duel.
  • In episode 63, Akiza Summons this monster in order to fight off the small shadowy condors that the King of the Netherworld summoned to attack the Signers. In the next episode, this card and "Ancient Fairy Dragon" remain fighting off the shadowy condors until Yusei defeats Goodwin and the King of the Netherworld.
  • In episode 73, Akiza summons this card when Dobocle drives straight towards her. Thank to Akiza's psychic powers, she is able to physically manifest this card into reality. This monster then used its tail to send Dobocle and his Duel Runner flying out the building. Dobocle makes a break for it, but Trudge orders the Sector Security officers to go after him.
  • In episode 75, Akiza used this card in her Turbo Duel against Tetsu Trudge. She Synchro Summons this card by tuning "Lord Poison" with "Twilight Rose Knight". This card then attacks and destroys "Stygian Street Patrol". Trudge then activates "Final Penalty" to destroy this card and inflict damage to Akiza equal to half the ATK of "Stygian Street Patrol". Akiza then activates the effect of "Revival Rose" to Special Summon it from her Graveyard.
  • In episode 99, Akiza used this card in her Turbo Duel against Andre. She Synchro Summons this card by tuning "Rose Fairy" with "Witch of the Black Rose". Akiza then activates "Star Siphon" to Summon a Siphon Token that has a Level equal to this card's level and make this card's Level 1. Akiza then sends the top card of her deck to the Graveyard to Special Summon "Glow-Up Bulb" from the Graveyard. Akiza then tunes the Siphon Token with "Glow-Up Bulb" to Synchro Summon "Stardust Dragon" (which Yusei gave to Akiza before Akiza went to Duel Andre). This card then attacks and destroys "Thunder Unicorn". "Stardust Dragon" then attacks Andre directly, but Andre activates "Dimension Equilibrium" to end the Battle Phase, banish this card, and Special Summon "Thunder Unicorn" from the Graveyard.
  • In episode 139, Akiza uses this card in her Ground Duel with Crow Hogan against Sherry Leblanc. She Synchro Summons this card by using the effect of "Blackwing - Kogarashi the Wanderer" to tune her own Mask Token with "Kogarashi the Wanderer". Due to the effect of "Kogarashi the Wanderer", this card's Synchro Summon isn't negated by the effect of "École de Zone". Akiza then activates this card's effect to destroy all cards on the field, which breaks the illusion that "École de Zone" was creating. However this also destroys Sherry's set "Z-ONE" card and that allows Sherry to activate its effect. In the next episode, Akiza revives this card via the effect of "Blue Rose Dragon" with its effects negated. On the final turn, Crow activates "Rendering Tuning" to Special Summon "Blackwing - Hurricane the Tornado" from his hand. Crow then uses the effect of "Hurricane the Tornado" to make its ATK becomes equal to this card's ATK which prevents "Soul-Binding Gate" from destroying it. Crow then activates "Level Wing" to increase the Level of "Hurricane the Tornado" by 3. Crow then tunes "Blackwing - Bora the Spear" with "Hurricane the Tornado" to Synchro Summon "Black-Winged Dragon". Akiza then activates "Synchro Stream", equipping it onto "Black-Winged Dragon". "Black-Winged Dragon" then attacks "Sorciere de Fleur". Due to the effect of "Synchro Stream", "Black-Winged Dragon" gains ATK equal to this card's ATK until the End Phase. "Black-Winged Dragon" then destroys "Sorciere de Fleur", winning Crow and Akiza the Duel.
    • In the latter above-mentioned episode, this card appears in a flashback Akiza has when she reminds Crow how Yusei saved her from the darkness of her psychic powers because he had put his life on the line to change her.
  • In episode 147, Akiza gives this card to Yusei for his upcoming Duel against Z-one.
  • In episode 148, Yusei uses this card during his Turbo Duel against Z-one. He Synchro Summons this card by tuning "Regene Warrior" with "Junk Synchron". Yusei then activates this card's effect to destroy all cards on the field. Yusei then activates "Synchro Barrier Force" to negate this card's effect and inflict 500 damage to Z-one for each Synchro Monster he controls. Since Yusei controls three Synchro Monsters, Z-one takes 1500 damage.
  • Black Rose Dragon was given to Yusei by Akiza, along with the other Signer Dragons, for his Duel against Z-one in episode episode 148. He used it by activating its destruction effect upon its Summon, but negating it to inflict damage to Z-one. It was then returned to the Extra Deck by "Camion, the Timelord's" effect, but in episode 150 Yusei brought it back to the field along with 4 other Signer Dragons in order to Summon Shooting Quasar Dragon. In the next episode, this monster is shown as part of "Shooting Quasar Dragon's" attack.

Scripted Duels

  • In the non-canon duel YCS Providence 2012 Special: Yusei vs. Akiza, Akiza summons this card with "Twilight Rose Knight" and "Lord Poison" as Synchro Material. Immediately afterwards, she uses its first effect to destroy itself and Yusei's "Junk Warrior", "Armory Arm", and "Scrap-Iron Scarecrow". Later, she Special Summons "Black Rose Dragon" with "Wicked Rebirth" in response to Yusei's "Stardust Dragon's" Direct Attack. "Black Rose Dragon" then has its ATK increased by "Overdoom Line". The next turn, "Black Rose Dragon" attacks directly, but the attack is negated by Yusei's "Swift Scarecrow". The following turn, "Black Rose Dragon" is destroyed by the effect of Yusei's "Junk Destroyer". The same turn, "Black Rose Dragon" is Special Summoned from the Graveyard a second time by the second effect of "Wicked Rebirth" and subsequently has its ATK increased again by "Overdoom Line". The turn after, Akiza equips "Black Rose Dragon" with "Thorn of Malice" and "Black Rose Dragon" attacks Yusei's "Junk Destroyer". The subsequent turn, "Black Rose Dragon" is destroyed by battle in a Double KO by Yusei's "Shooting Quasar Dragon".
