Barian glyphs, describing a story from Duel Terminal - Champion of Chaos!!.

Barian glyphs are the writing system used by the Barians from the Barian World in the Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL anime.

In reality, the glyphs are a cipher of romanized Japanese. Each glyph is a stylized version of a letter from the Latin alphabet. A word written in Japanese phonology can be converted to Barian by converting the word to romaji and then replacing each letter with its corresponding Barian glyph. As the letters C, L, and Q are not used in Japanese romanization, they likely do not have Barian glyphs. The letter X is not used either, but it does appear on the shield of "Number XX: Utopic Dark Infinity", presumably meant as its Number mark.

The language has 2 notable differences from the Astral script:

  • Instead of a spinning wheel, it uses specific glyphs for digits.
  • Attribute icons are composed of the initial letter of the Attribute in English, followed by the same letter rotated 180° e.g. FIRE is FℲ, EARTH is EƎ.

The Xyz Material line is consistent with Astral script ( <☆ repeated a number of times equal to the monster's Rank> × <number of Xyz Materials, repeated that many times>).
