It can use "Ruffian Railcar" or "Bullet Liner" as cost for its effects, setting up their effects on the [[End Phase]].

It can also recover itself during the next turn to provide a consistent means of summoning high-level Machines.

* Since the deck is heavily geared towards going second, the Deck's gameplan can be often derailed when going first due to the limited interactions the Deck can put up against the opponent, with the typical "end board" consists only of a single "Super Dora". Train (れっしゃ Ressha),[1][2] also known as Railway, is a series of train-themed EARTH Machine monsters introduced in Galactic Overlord. They are prominently used by both Anna Kaboom in Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL and Alan in Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V.

Design[edit]

Each card of this series is based on either trains or railway infrastructure. The only exception is Number 27: Dreadnought Dreadnoid, which is instead based on a ship. The "Train" series is linked to the "Ancient Gear" archetype through "Special Schedule".

Playing style[edit]

The series' playing style revolves around Xyz Summoning Rank 10 Xyz Monsters and performing an OTK with their high ATK and aggressive, blunt effects. The series is usually played as a blind-second deck and packed with going-second staples.

The series' Main Deck monsters are divided into Level 4 monsters and Level 10 monsters. The former can provide benefits or resources for the Xyz Summons, such as "Express Train Trolley Olley", "Ruffian Railcar" and "Flying Pegasus Railroad Stampede", and the latter generally have low ATK and/or effects that encourage the player to use them as materials for an Xyz Summon, such as "Heavy Freight Train Derricrane", "Night Express Knight" and "Super Express Bullet Train". These Level 10 monsters have negative effects to make up for them being easy to Summon - "Night Express Knight" and "Derricrane" lose ATK/DEF upon being Summoned with their own effects, while "Bullet Train" forces the controller to send 2 cards they control to the Graveyard in order to attack; these effects will not matter much, as the purpose of those monsters is to be used for an Xyz Summon right away. Both themes can be combined through the effects of "Flying Pegasus" and/or "Revolving Switchyard" to turn the Level 4 monsters into Level 10 ones and facilitate the access to Xyz Summon, that can be further accelerated by some of the aforementioned cards, as well as by "Urgent Schedule".

Level 3/4 Train
Monster Effects Notes
Signal Red Can be special summoned when opponents declares an attack, then redirect the attack to it and is indestructible in that battle. Level 3 in-theme "Battle Fader"-like card. Outdated in modern builds due to the lack of Level synergy.
Trolley Olley Grants 800 ATK for monster that uses it as Xyz material. Situational ATK boosters that is mostly bought out with "Revolving Switchyard" or "Urgent Schedule".
Lionhearted Locomotive Has 2400 ATK, but loses half its ATK when it declares an attack. A Level 4 "attack position wall" that is historically used to stall the opponent's attack. Outdated in modern builds.
Ruffian Railcar
  • Can inflict 500 damage, but at a cost of giving up the battle phase.
  • When being sent to the GY; add 1 Level 10 EARTH Machine monsters to the hand during the End Phase.

Main advantage-neutral searcher for grind game.

  • Discard target for "Revolving Switchyard" to search either a starter or extender at the End Phase.
  • Useful as a summon target of "Revolving Switchyard", "Urgent Schedule", or "Infinitrack Anchor Drill" to set up play in the next turn when detached as an Xyz material.
  • Can also act as a situational burn damage finisher.
Flying Pegasus
  • When summoned; special summon 1 EARTH Machine monsters from GY in Defense position, but negate their effects.
  • If no non-Xyz Monster have attacked that turn; target 1 other monster you control, then change the Level of one of either card to the other's.

Main Level 4 starter.

  • First effect offers comeback probability in prolonged grind game.
  • Second effect can be used to either copy Level 10 Train extender's level or reduce their Level for Rank 4 plays.
    • This effect can be applied on any monster, not just EARTH Machines. As such you can use it in a combination with "Astral Kuriboh" or other non-theme extender for other Xyz options.
Level 10 Train
Monster Effects Notes
Night Express Knight Can be normal summoned without tributes, but its ATK becomes 0. Cannot be special summoned from the deck. Main Level 10 starter to enable the summon of "Derricrane" or "Bullet Train".
Rocket Arrow Express

Must be special summoned when you control no cards on the field. You cannot attack the turn this card is summoned.

  • You cannot activate cards or effects, or set any cards while it is on the field.
  • During each of your Standby Phase, you must send the entire hand to the GY or this card is destroyed.
Historically designed as a starter in combination with "Night Express Knight". Outdated in modern builds.
Snow Plow

While on the field, you cannot special summon any monsters, except Machines.

  • If opponent declares a Direct attack while you have cards in Spell & Trap Zone; special summon this card, then destroy all cards in your S&T zone, then inflict 200 damage for each card(s) destroyed.
Situational Direct attack blocker when going first and to potentially set up Spell and Trap GY effects. Largely outdated in modern builds.
Derricrane
  • If an EARTH Machine monster is summoned; you can special summon this card, but its ATK/DEF are halved.
  • When it was detached as an Xyz material for effect; target 1 of opponent's card and destroy it.

Main Level 10 extender for Rank 10 plays

  • Special summon effect can be chained to any of opponent's potential disruption to allow extra play if player still has other extenders.
  • GY effect offers removal options during either player's turn.
Bullet Train
  • Can be special summoned if player only controls an EARTH Machine monsters.
  • Cannot attack unless you send 2 other cards you control to GY.
  • During the end phase it was sent to GY; add 1 Machine monster from GY other than itself to the hand.

Secondary Level 10 extender and main resource recoverer.

  • Can act as an additional extender after playing through opponent's disruption in early game. Though it may become a brick in late game if you control non-EARTH Machine monsters.
  • GY effect can help recover starter for the next turn plays, especially "Flying Pegasus" that can special summon this card from GY and start Xyz play.

The series' Rank 10/11 Xyz Monsters, or the "Superdreadnought Rail Cannon" monsters, focus on either quickly finishing the game with their high ATKs and damaging effects, or to stall the game for prolonged grind.

Rank 10/11 Train
Monster Effects Notes
Gustav Max (Detach 1 mat) Inflict 2000 damage. Soft-once per turn high burn damage inflicter.
Super Dora (Detach 1 mat, Quick Effect) Target 1 monster, it becomes immune to all other effects this turn. Defensive monster with 4000 DEF, and the ability to become unaffected by card effects.
Juggernaut Liebe

Can be Xyz summoned over a Rank 10 Machine monsters.

  • (Detach 1 mat) Gains 2000 ATK, but you can only attack with this monster this turn.
  • Can attack monsters each battle phase, equal to number of materials +1.
OTK focused game finisher, able to reach at least 6000 ATK and attack multiple times.

Meanwhile, the series' Rank 4 Xyz monsters has an effect to provide support for a prolonged game in case the player were not able to perform the OTK on their first turn, or that they were unable to summon a Rank 10 monster that turn.

Rank 4 Train
Monster Effects Notes
Ironwolf
  • (Detach 1 mat) Target 1 Machine monster, it can attack directly this turn, but other monsters cannot attack.
  • When destroyed, add 1 Level 4 Machine monster to the hand.
Support monster to allow the high ATK Machine to deal direct damage and provides resource upon destrution. Somewhat redundant OTK enabler due to the player can still perform an OTK by removing the opponent's cards through other means.
Dreadnought Dreadnoid

Can be Xyz summoned with 2 or more Level 4 Monsters

  • If destroyed a monster by battle; at the end of the Battle Phase, Xyz summon 1 Rank 10 or higher Machine Xyz monsters using it as the material.
  • Can detach 1 material to prevent its own destruction
Defensive monster with an effect to cheat out any high rank Machine Xyz monster after the Battle Phase. Usually "Super Quantal Mech King Great Magnus" due to its immunity effect.

In case the player were unable to perform an OTK, the deck is also capable of playing a defensive grind game, primarily with the usage of "Super Dora" as a wall while recurring resources with the effect of "Ruffian Railcar" and "Bullet Train" to help facilitate Xyz summon on the next turn.

Most Train-related support cards only lock the player's attacks (to either Machine or Xyz monsters), not monster summons or monster effects, meaning that the Deck has access to the game's entire pool of generic Rank 10 monsters for additional utility.

Rank 10 monsters of note include:

  • "Number C9: Chaos Dyson Sphere"; provides non-target, non-destruction removal by attaching any monster it battled, preventing any floating effects on removal and denying Graveyard resources in the process. It can also deal a considerable effect damage every turn.
  • "Varudras, the Final Bringer of the End Times"; provides omninegate interruption and multiple non-target destruction effects. This card's optional non-target destruction effect can be either combined with "Derricrane" to destroy two cards during either player's turn, or destroy your own cards (such as a "Ruffian Railcar" summoned through "Urgent Schudle" or a "Clockwork Night" on the field) to use their GY effects.
  • "Number 35: Ravenous Tarantula", which can bridge into "Number 84: Pain Gainer" and "Number 77: The Seven Sins", thus allow the summon of "Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS - Sky Thunder" with at least 5 materials.
  • "Skypalace Gangaridai", an alternate choice for "Gustav Max" in case the player needed to destroy at least one card the opponent controls, or up to two when combined with "Derricrane". It is also a Machine monster that can bridge into "Juggernaut Liebe".

The series' Link Monster, "Double Headed Anger Knuckle", can be used to Special Summon Level 10 monsters and provide materials for the Xyz Summons, as well as a long-term investment due to its ability to revive itself. It can use "Ruffian Railcar" or "Bullet Train" as cost for its effects, setting up their effects on the End Phase.

Casual supportive cards that can be combined with this Deck include:

Variations of the Deck also include "Skill Drain", which negates the negative effects of the Level 10 monsters, turning them into easily summonable beatsticks.

Weakness[edit]

  • Since the deck is heavily geared towards going second, the Deck's gameplan can be often derailed when going first due to the limited interactions the Deck can put up against the opponent, with the typical "end board" consists only of a single "Super Dora". This is somewhat remedied with the addition of "Varudras, the Final Bringer of the End Times" that offers omninegate option for the Deck.
  • Because of the lack of protection on most monsters, the deck is prone to mass removals and negation effects. Without proper backup plans to special summon new monsters to refill the board (i.e "Urgent Schedule"), this will render the player nearly defenseless from opponent's counterattacks.
  • Due to the deck's potential to summon a large number of powerful Xyz monsters, player may find themselves overextending and were thus at risk of losing several powerful monsters at once.
  • Since the "Train" deck features a large number of high-level monsters, it is also prone to dead draws or bricked hands that can hinders the deck's consistency.
