Anime statistics[edit]

  • This monster has been the only "Meklord Emperor" from the invasion to be stopped before eliminating its target, in this case Antinomy. However, it has been responsible for the most on-screen deaths in the invasion as it killed Aporia's mother and father, as well as his love interest.
    • In addition to being the monster that directly caused much of Aporia's despair, it is also the reason he lost to Z-one and died (when he drew this card instead of "Afterglow" at the end of their Duel).
  • Despite this monster being the very being that caused Aporia's suffering, he still used it against Z-one, and his oldest embodiment of despair used it against Yusei. This is likely an expression of how Aporia was consumed by despair prior to dueling the Signers, while his use of the "Meklord Emperors" against Z-one was more out of strategy than personal choice (by sacrificing the components of the "Meklords" with various card effects, he was able to deplete his Deck more quickly in preparation to use "Afterglow").
  • In its complete form, this card's attack name is called "Grand Slaughter Cannon" in the original anime - in the dub, it is called "Final Bombardment".
  • In the anime, this card absorbs Synchro Monsters in a different fashion than its fellow Meklord Emperors. After Granel destroys a Synchro Monster in battle, it (through the effect of "Granel Attack"), fires a green light that opens up a portal to the Graveyard before absorbing the monster with green energy strings emitted from its core.

Monster appearances[edit]

  • In episode 132, Jakob uses this card during his Turbo Duel against Jack Atlas. He Special Summons this card, "Granel Top", "Granel Attack", "Granel Guard", and "Granel Carrier" via the effect of "Grand Core". Due to this card's effect, its ATK becomes equal to Jakob's Life Points (which was 4000 at the time). Jakob then activates "Speed Spell - Takeover" to destroy "Infinite Aura" and gain 8000 Life Points (100 Life Points for each counter that was on "Infinite Aura"), giving this card 12000 ATK. This card then attacks "Red Nova Dragon", but Jack activates the latter's third effect to banish it until the End Phase and allow Jack to negate one attack. However, Jakob activates the effect of "Granel Top" to negate the effect of "Red Nova Dragon" until the End Phase. This card then destroys "Red Nova Dragon", defeating Jack. Jakob then activates the effect of "Granel Attack", taking "Red Nova Dragon" from Jack's Graveyard and equipping it to this card. Due to this card's effect, it gains ATK equal to the ATK of "Red Nova Dragon". Jack then passes the baton to Crow Hogan, who proceeds in Dueling Jakob.
  • In episode 133, Jakob uses this card during his Turbo Duel against Crow. Later Crow activates the effect of "Speed World 2" to remove ten Speed Counters and destroy this card, but Jakob activates "Infinity Wall" to negate all card effects that would destroy a card he controls this turn. After Crow activates the effect of "Aurora the Northern Lights" to banish "Blackwing Armor Master" from his Extra Deck and make the ATK and effects of "Aurora the Northern Lights" the same as the effect of "Blackwing Armor Master" (Crow intends to attack this card with "Aurora the Northern Lights", which will allow Crow to place a Wedge Counter on this card. Crow will then remove the counter and reduce this card's ATK to 0 which, in turn, would activate the effect of the Steam Token, banishing all five parts of Granel), Crow uses "Aurora the Northern Lights" to attack this card, but Jakob activates the effect of "Granel Guard" to treat "Red Nova Dragon" as an Attack Position monster in Jakob's Spell & Trap Card Zone until the end of the Damage Step and redirect the attack to it. Due to the "Blackwing Armor Master"-granted effects of "Aurora the Northern Lights", it is not destroyed and Crow takes no Battle Damage. At the end of the Damage Step, "Red Nova Dragon" becomes an Equip Card again, so "Aurora the Northern Lights" can't place a Wedge Counter on it. Later, this card attacks directly, but Crow activates the effect of "Blackwing - Ghibli the Searing Wind" to Special Summon the latter from his hand. A replay occurs and Jakob uses this card to attack and destroy "Ghibli the Searing Wind". Crow then activates "Black Wing Revenge" to Special Summon two Blackwing - Black Crest Tokens. Crow then activates "Blackboost" to draw two cards. On Jakob's next turn, this card attacks Crow directly, defeating him. Crow then activates the effect of "Hillen the Tengu-wind", reviving itself and "Ghibli the Searing Wind". Crow then activates "Urgent Tuning" to allow him to tune "Blackwing - Ghibli the Searing Wind" with "Blackwing - Hillen the Tengu-wind" and Synchro Summon "Black-Winged Dragon". Due to the rulings of the WRGP, it immediately goes to Jakob's End Phase. "Red Nova Dragon" then becomes an Equip Card again. Crow then passes the baton to Yusei Fudo who proceeds in Dueling Jakob.
    • This card also appears in a flashback Crow has when he notes he could use the effect of "Hillen the Tengu-wind" to summon it and a Level 3 monster in his Graveyard when he takes at least 2000 Battle Damage. This would allow Crow to activate "Urgent Tuning" and Synchro Summon "Black-Winged Dragon" which could intercept the attack of "Meklord Emperor Granel". Crow notes that would be useless as "Granel Attack" will equip it to "Meklord Emperor Granel" once the latter destroys "Black-Winged Dragon". If that happens, Yusei will have to deal with "Meklord Emperor Granel" and two Synchro Monsters when Crow passes the baton to him.
  • In episode 134, Jakob uses this card during his Turbo Duel against Yusei. Later this card attacks "Black-Winged Dragon" (Jakob intends to use the effect of "Granel Attack" to equip "Black-Winged Dragon" to this card when it destroys "Black-Winged Dragon" in battle); however, Yusei activates the effect of "Wave Wall" to negate the attack. Jakob then activates "Attack Cannon" to send "Granel Attack" to the Graveyard and destroy "Black-Winged Dragon". Yusei then activates "Shadow Impulse" to Special Summon "Stardust Dragon" from his Extra Deck with 0 ATK and its effects negated. Jakob then Normal Summons "Granel Attack 3" to replace "Granel Attack" as this card's left arm. Later, "Shooting Star Dragon" (who has gained five attacks due to its own effect) attacks "Granel Attack 3", but Jakob uses the effect of "Granel Guard" to treat "Red Nova Dragon" as an Attack Position monster in his Spell & Trap Card Zone until the end of the Damage Step and redirect the attack to it instead. Yusei then activates "Synchro Striker Unit", equipping it to "Shooting Star Dragon" and increasing its ATK by 1000. Jakob then uses the effect of "Granel Carrier" to prevent "Red Nova Dragon" from being destroyed; however, he still takes Battle Damage. As Jakob took damage, this card's ATK decreases by 800. "Shooting Star Dragon" then attacks "Granel Attack 3" again, but Jakob uses the effect of "Granel Guard" to treat "Red Nova Dragon" as an Attack Position monster in his Spell & Trap Card Zone and redirect the attack to it instead. "Shooting Star Dragon" then destroys "Red Nova Dragon", which causes this card's ATK to decrease to 10400. "Shooting Star Dragon" then attacks and destroys "Granel Attack 3", which decreases this card's ATK to 7900. "Shooting Star Dragon" then attacks and destroys "Granel Top", causing this card's ATK to decrease to 4100. "Shooting Star Dragon" then attacks and destroys this card. This action destroys "Granel Guard" and "Granel Carrier" through their own effects, since this card was no longer on the field.
  • In episode 137, this card is shown flying out of Aporia's Deck after he loses to Yusei.
  • In episode 146, Aporia uses this card during his Ground Duel against Z-one. He Special Summons this card, "Granel Top", "Granel Attack", "Granel Guard", and "Granel Carrier" via the effect of "Grand Core". Due to this card's effect, its ATK became equal to Aporia's Life Points (which was 4000). Later "Time Angel" attacks this card. This card then destroys "Time Angel", but Z-one activates "Foolish Decision" from his hand to reduce the damage to 0. The effect of "Time Angel" then activates, returning this card and the other Granel parts to Aporia's hand. Z-one then activates "Magician's Adage" from his hand to inflict 1500 damage to Aporia (300 damage to Aporia for each card returned to Aporia's hand). In the next episode, Aporia discards this card to the Graveyard due to the Hand Size Limit. After "Lazion, the Timelord" attacks directly, its third effect activates, returning all cards in Aporia's Graveyard to his Deck. Z-one explains that if Aporia draws "Afterglow", he will win, but if he draws anything else, the fourth effect of "Lazion, the Timelord" will inflict 1000 damage to him. Aporia conducts his Draw Phase, but he draws this card instead of "Afterglow". As a result, "Lazion, the Timelord" inflicts 1000 damage to Aporia, defeating him.
    • In the second above-mentioned episode, this card appears in Crow's explanation when he explains to Leo that the Meklord Emperors can only be summoned while each of the Meklord Emperor's parts are in the Deck. Since Aporia was milling his Deck for a strategy he had thought out from the beginning of the Duel, Crow explains that it's a good thing that Aporia is using his monsters to help him reduce the number of cards in his Deck.
  • In episode 149, this monster appears in Z-one's backstory when he explains how he became Yusei and why he wanted to destroy Neo Domino City to change the future. This card is shown on Z-one's computer when he is shown looking up Yusei's history.
