Card Rulings:Ancient Gear Engineer
OCG Rulings
- The effect "Negate any Trap effects that target this card, and if you do, destroy that Trap Card." is a Continuous Effect.[1]
- The effect "If this card attacks, your opponent cannot activate any Spell/Trap Cards until the end of the Damage Step." is a Continuous Effect.[1]
- The effect "At the end of the Damage Step, if this card attacked: Target 1 Spell/Trap Card your opponent controls; destroy that target." is a Trigger Effect. (It targets 1 Spell/Trap Card your opponent controls. It is always activated at the end of the Damage Step in which "Ancient Gear Engineer" attacked.)[1]
- Even if "Ancient Gear Engineer" attacks and is destroyed by battle, the effect "Target 1 Spell/Trap Card your opponent controls; destroy that target." is activated at the end of the Damage Step.[1]
- The effect "Target 1 Spell/Trap Card your opponent controls; destroy that target." is activated at the end of the Damage Step in which "Ancient Gear Engineer" attacked. However, if "Ancient Gear Engineer" attacks a face-down Defense Position "Shaddoll Squamata", and "Ancient Gear Engineer" is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard by the effect of "Shaddoll Squamata" after damage calculation, then the effect "Target 1 Spell/Trap Card your opponent controls; destroy that target." is not activated.[2]

- "Ancient Gear Engineer's" effect activates at the end of the Damage Step (when monsters destroyed by battle are sent to the Graveyard). If it is destroyed by battle, or removed from the field by a card effect before then, its effect will not activate.
