Card Rulings:Chosen One
OCG Rulings
- If "Chosen One" is Set in your Spell & Trap Zone, you can activate it if you have 2 or more Spell/Trap Cards and 1 or more Monster Cards in your hand. Also, if "Chosen One" is in your hand, it can be activated if you have 2 or more Spell/Trap Cards other than "Chosen One" and 1 or more Monster Cards in your hand.[1]
- When resolving the effect of "Chosen One", choose 1 Monster Card and 2 Spell/Trap Cards from your hand, and your opponent randomly chooses 1 of those 3 cards.[1]
- Depending on the card your opponent chose when resolving the effect, perform "If it is a Monster Card, it is Special Summoned and send the remaining 2 cards to the Graveyard" or "If not, send all the cards to the Graveyard".[1]
- Performing "If it is a Monster Card, it is Special Summoned" and "send the remaining 2 cards to the Graveyard" are treated as being done at the same time.[1]
Previously Official Rulings
These TCG rulings were issued by Upper Deck Entertainment and have since been declared unofficial by Konami.[2] They were previously considered official and can still be correct, as long as they follow the official gameplay rules, or unless Konami has issued a ruling that says otherwise. - You may not select a monster that can only be Special Summoned by a specific effect for this card’s effect, such as a Ritual Monster, "Chaos Emperor Dragon – Envoy of the End" or "Spirit of the Pharaoh". If the only Monster Card in your hand is a monster such as these, then you cannot activate "Chosen One".
- If you activate "Chosen One" and your opponent chains "Lightforce Sword" to remove 1 of the 3 chosen cards from your hand, the effect of "Chosen One" cannot resolve and disappears.
Mentions in Other Rulings
- Magical Thorn: The effect of "Magical Thorn" is NOT applied when you send cards from your hand to the Graveyard for things such as a Tribute for a Ritual Spell Card, a Fusion Material Monster, or the effects of cards like "Chosen One"...
