Card Rulings:Des Wombat
Contents
OCG Rulings
- If you control "Des Wombat", you cannot activate "Against the Wind". If you chain "Call of the Haunted" to "Against the Wind" and Special Summon "Des Wombat", since the damage you take becomes 0, you cannot add a "Blackwing" monster from your Graveyard to your hand.[1]
TCG Rulings
Konami Rulings
These TCG rulings were issued by Konami before the introduction of Problem-Solving Card Text. Since the introduction of the new text structure, individual card rulings for the TCG are no longer issued or actively maintained.[2] They have never been formally overturned as a whole and can still be correct, as long as they follow the official gameplay rules and do not contradict card text. |
Mentions in Other Rulings
- Against the Wind: If you control “Des Wombat,” you can activate “Against the Wind,” but since the damage you take becomes 0, you cannot add a card to your hand.
- Infernity Reflector: You can activate "Infernity Reflector" even if "Des Wombat" or "Prime Material Dragon" is face-up on the field. You cannot activate it if "Vanity's Fiend" is face-up on the field.
- Lifeforce Harmonizer: If you control “Des Wombat” and it is preventing you from taking damage, you cannot activate “Lifeforce Harmonizer”.
Upper Deck Entertainment Rulings
These TCG rulings were issued by Upper Deck Entertainment and have since been declared unofficial by Konami.[3] They were previously considered official and can still be correct, as long as they follow the official gameplay rules, or unless Konami has issued a ruling that says otherwise. - "Des Wombat" even protects you against damage from your own card effects, like "Dark Snake Syndrome" or "Ring of Destruction".
- "Des Wombat" even protects you against card effects where the damage is undecided at activation, like "Dice Jar".
- "Des Wombat" will protect you against the Effect Damage of "Graverobber".
- If your only "Des Wombat" is destroyed by "Judgment of Anubis" or "Ring of Destruction", it is no longer on the field so it will not protect you against the damage from these card effects.
Mentions in Other Rulings
- Grand Convergence: If the 300 damage would be reduced to 0 by the effect of "Des Wombat" or "Pikeru's Circle of Enchantment", "Grand Convergence" can still be activated and all monsters on the field will still be destroyed.
- Power Bond: You can prevent the damage from "Power Bond" with "Des Wombat".

Rules posted online will be limited to super-complicated and really weird situations. Imagine going down to a dozen pages of card rules, instead of a thousand. It could happen.
